  1. we seem to be a some sort of list i've seen another forum who had the same spam threads I found here same.. so it's got to be some sort of bot list... and that would mean a simple change of forum software would solve the problems.. at least in the short term

EDIT: I suggest SMF and a cool little mod http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=106 ... that would kill off most of the spam bots. And all you'd have to do is just edit it a bit to instead of asking for a password, ask "what do you trust?" and because the answer is everywhere it would kill spam bots but not humans.(who watch the show.)

EDIT2: and a way to handel noobs http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=218

EDIT3: this is mod is damn cool for the questions forum http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=7

  2. Think of encryption as a safe, if you want to keep something safe you'd put it in a safe, and if you wanted it to be really safe, you'd put the first safe in another safe so it's more safe. But remember something about safes people keep important things in safes so it might not really be safe in a safe... safety speaking.

  3. Did you plug it in correctly?

    did you un-mute it?

there are so many other questions you said the mic dosen't work, you never said what you are tyring to do some recording software requires you to set the right input, as well as to hear your voice in XP you have to unmute the mic.....

  4. A script with some thing like that is a bad idea. You are far better off having two people backwards and forwarding. One asking questions, the other answering them in full, but that's just me.

People like to watch other people talk to other people, people do not like to watch people ramble on.

Make it a conversation, the viewers will learn more and will probably watch the entire thing.

  5. <SNIP>

It's a hardware / software combination using dedicated audio and video mixers, 5 13" televisions, and two desktop computers using special video software (taking the roles of the VTR and Character Generator as they're known in the industry). The whole thing is a hack within itself. A professional setup like this would cost tens of thousands. This does it a fraction of the cost with most of the functionality.

I do hope you post how you did this, either via an episode or other means, because this is one thing that I know I'm interested in. After Assisting with taping live football games and working on several aspects of the equipment and the media van I'd really like to see how to do it similarly.

Maybe. I'm not sure if it really speaks to the broad audience. I hate that. Isn't IPTV supposed to be about niche stuff? Anyway, I'm probably wrong. Chime in if you're interested in seeing how we hacked together a broadcast console. I guess we really just need to go weekly. ;)

I've been asking for MONTHS on an IPTV segment MONTHS you really need to do one.

  6. I have two laptops that I would like to connect together wirelessly with an ad hoc network. The reason I do not want to buy an access point is this is only temporary. Here is what I would like to accomplish:

    ___ = CAT5 Cable

---- = Wireless (The Ad Hoc Network)

    Desktop PC___1Laptop----------2Laptop__Switch__Router__Cable Modem__Internet

It is really one desktop pc on the other side of my house that I need to have connected to the internet for about a week, only when the laptop that it is connected to with a crossover cable will be on. But is this even possible? To share a internet connection on the "2Laptop" and then have the desktop pc be able to access the internet that way?

I sort of figured out the Ad hoc network when the two laptops were sitting side by side but the connection kept disconnecting.

If anyone could tell me if this is possible to accomplish and if so, how to do this, please tell me. Thanks!

yes you can do this I'm guessing it's windows right?

ok laptop 2 has internet connection right? If yes then start up the Windows Networking Wizard on both laptops and select "Other computers connect to the internet through this computer" or something like that on both then restart all computers and it should work as long as you're using a crossover cable from laptop1 to Desktop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/crossover_cable

if you need some more help let me know

  7. don't help hakgipc he needs to do it himself

ok but i thought the point of the forums was to talk and help each other out?

    sorry if im wrong

No! You are totally right, if someone had tried to do something but they are stuck, help them as much as you can. But hakgipc won't even try to learn he wants everyone to do it for him so untill he trys for himself don't help him or he'll never learn to do it.

  8. I can't wait for you guys to see the broadcast console we built for $1500. It's seriously awesome. It will allow us to do live-to-disk recording with 4 camera switching, graphics (lower thirds, bugs, full screens), picture in picture (for closeups on mods or live callers with webcams), desktop input, keying, and a whole lot more. It's just one of the efforts we've put into the backend so that we can streamline our production pipeline. That way we don't have to spend several days shooting an episode ending up with inconsistencies between pre-recorded segments (IE: end of a segment we say "lets check back in with alli and see what's up next", then it cuts back to wess and i on set, or the horrible "now back to us, on the main set" [LAME]). It's also going to allow us to do live broadcasts. This means a show can be produced in a day, which in turn means we'll have the ability to do more shows in the future. It also cuts out a lot of the post production work, the mundane editing 3 camera switching in the edit software. Instead we should just piece together the segments, render them out, and post em on the website. That cuts about 40 hours of work out right there. Of course there's always the pre-production phase which consists of brainstorming, research, development, and writing, but the more we pull talent from the dev5 community the more effective we'll be using our time.

It sounds truly awesome. Is it the hardware, some software, or some combination of the two the lets you do this?

It's a hardware / software combination using dedicated audio and video mixers, 5 13" televisions, and two desktop computers using special video software (taking the roles of the VTR and Character Generator as they're known in the industry). The whole thing is a hack within itself. A professional setup like this would cost tens of thousands. This does it a fraction of the cost with most of the functionality.

The new cameras we're using are also 3 chip panasonic's, the younger brother of the DVX100 that's super popular among documentary film makers, wedding videographers, and field reporting for news gathering. It's a bit expensive at $2000, and we've only picked up one so far (hopefully the ads in the current episode will allow us to pick up another), but when you look at the image quality compared to ones 10 times the price you're really getting close. Especially when you factor in compression for the web. If you noticed the vividness of the colour in the set shots of 2x05 you know what I mean.

Hopefully we can pick two more up really soon, because honestly I dread doing an episode with one 3chip and two 1chip cameras. It will only point out how muddy our sony's look.

I'll post some pics of it when we do the live broadcast on the 15th.

I was going to say you might want to turn the color down just a tiny bit to me on my tv it looked like you and wess were wearing lipstick

  9. nahh

windows doesn't automatically connect unless you have connected to them before

you buy a d-link DI-624+ router and turn it on... someone else near you buys a d-link DI 514 router and turns it on... because it's already connected to the internet no one changes anything and the SSID for both is default... your router release the magic smoke one night so you computer connect to the other "default" SSID

  10. I think Cooper said it closest to my opinion. "As a documentary on the phenomenon that is Pure Pwnage, I loved it." Ditto on the Great Editing Job as well.

    Ditto then Ditto GREAT editing

But if your watching BSG you know that the last episode was totaly not the norm (character development ep.) and I liked it, But I KNOW a lot of people will have hated it.(Very little action) Sadly I'm one of them when it comes to Hak5 I did not like this episode I still LOVE Hak5, but that the way it is take the good with the bad...

I do have a few ideas of what going on behind the scenes with Technolust LLC and would love to know if they are true or not. Darren if I PM'd you would you be honest if I was right or not?

    SomeoneElse,

I must have missed the PM. I'll gladly and honestly answer any question in the public forum, just ask. Seriously guys, don't forget we're just geeks like you and want to make something that we like, that you like, and when possible entertains and educates all. Thats not always possible but we try really hard and I believe that we havent damaged our integrity as a tech show in any way and I hope you understand how passionate we are about this subject.

So again, just ask, I'll answer.

I haven't sent a PM I wanted see if your POV on it first

It seems like the great in flux of skiddys, you wanted to do something that the true geeks would still like but would kill off all the script kiddys... Kinda like a segment about RSI. something that ny1 dat uesd mor than 3 leters in an word migt kar bout.

Also that you had a show drawn up for 2x05 but then the idea came about for a live show and because it was not quite ready to go live on the 5th you held onto the ideas for the upcomming live show and because you don't want to release late again(from fear of the wrath of the community) or not at all you did something that you liked and thought was cool a docu on PP

That you chose PP becasue they have a huge fan base and it would show them the 1337N355 that is Hak5 you could get more fans (and also PP is not tech related it would also kill off some skiddys)

If I'm way off tell me so, if I'm right on pick me up as a producer/assistant for hak5, if you wish you had though of this first I'd be happy to help out some more ;)

Moonlit: TLDR(kidding) Agreed it's seems to have lost that spark

on a side after reading leetnoob's post I think the production work is killing you guys before you started (really)worrying about funds and filming and quality of the equipment and all that other crap studio work(that stuff nothing having to do with having fun, filming, editing, but the stuff a manager should be taking care of) and you guys just getting back to the idea of the show making/producing it, not managing it.

I say this with no idea of what you guys are doing so it's quite likely I'm NOT EVEN CLOSE

  11. I think Cooper said it closest to my opinion. "As a documentary on the phenomenon that is Pure Pwnage, I loved it." Ditto on the Great Editing Job as well.

  12. Ok I'll concede those points. I agree with you and think you're right.

However if you leave your network open you get what you deserve, you'd never leave your car unlocked why do the same with your network.

    Ignorance is NO excuse.

  13. It's theft of service, plain and simple. How would you feel if someone were sitting outside using *your* wireless connection? And "but I encrypt mine" is not a relevant argument, sorry.

So what if they're just checking their mail?

So what if they're just downloading music?

So what if they're just recording your traffic?

So what if they're just launching a botnet?

So what if they're just posting child porn to usenet?

it's very relevant, if the network is open and broadcasting to the world anyone can use it if it's encrypted unless you have the password (without stealing it) you cant use it... to use my old analogy

If someone is spraying water up into the air to water their lawn, but some gets on your lawn are you stealing his water?

If someone does the same but puts up a fence to stop the water from making your lawn wet, but you take down the fence to get the water is that stealing?

If Fox NBC ABC send there signal into the air and you tap into it are you stealing?

    on a side note:

Some people don't know how to set up a hotspot but want to share their wireless.
