  2. Loving the gnome theme, Vickiwong. Props to gcninja for the bleach backgrounds :P

Also dr0p has a nice desktop, for windows ofc.

I change my wallpapers a lot, but I don't really mess around with my themes all that much. I've stopped using compiz and emerald, for simplicity.

  3. Been thinking about buying a couple of these, they are practically giving them away now.

My servers are old Dell GX280s and they have overheating problems, so they're dying. Was considering using a couple of old xboxes maybe. Just as a torrent server n stuff, nothing exciting. That is of course assuming you can install a nice CLI Linux distro on there, not just the media centre stuff.

  4. Seems the old FON2100s are available in the UK through an amazon seller.

The only router on the UK site is the Le Fonera+ (Comes with 2 Ethernet Ports)

On the other European sites, you can also buy Le Fonera 2.0 Beta (Comes with 2 Ethernet Ports and a USB Port)

The Fonera 2.0 is intended to be a Liberator of your desktop computers by being able to both execute applications that you usually need to run in background on your computers and to help you share USB devices between the notebooks connected to your Fonera 2.0, like USB Disks, USB Scanners, USB Printers or Webcams (Not all USB Devices supported).
  5. Everyone is being so harsh to the poor guy.

Yes I agree he's a newb. But what better way to learn, than to try?

Have a play wth LFS or DFS, as suggested above. It can be fun, and you'll more than likely learn a thing or two about Linux along the way.

I don't know of any eBooks, but this site is quite a useful resource.

  6. Mumble is a very good FOSS alternative to Ventrilo.

The quality is much better than TeamSpeak, and it has a few features Ventrilo could gain from 'borrowing', including Raid implementation (for MMORPGs), and OpenGL Overlay (which I think the newer Vent may have now?).

  7. Specs wise, the only netbook that makes sense to me is the EEE PC 901.

6cell battery is the big seller here, also the large solid-state hard drive, and the high-res (for a netbook) webcam - oh, and did I forget to mention the Intel Atom processor? :).

The size/weight and price are all still netbook-ish (unlike higher models like the 1000), and every other brand has poorer specs.

I've ordered one myself, should be here Friday morning. ^^

  8. Just had a play with Pocket-Knife (Non U3 version). I find it a lot more useful than the standalone stuff found here.

I did get a No Disc error, which only went away after I disabled the Floppy disk drive.

Also, there was a pop-up to set a VNC password. Shouldn't VNC setup be completely silent?
