I'm running Skywave Linux. Dump1090 comes pre-installed. I can run it fine from the GUI shortcut, but I'm unable to run it from the command line. I changed directory to /usr/share/applications and found dump1090.desktop. When I tried to run it I got command not found. So I navigated there in the GUI and checked the properties of Dump1090, and got that the command for it was /usr/local/sbin/dump1090.sh. When I changed to that dir in the command line I got the same results. I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Clay

Hello, I am trying to replicate Shannon's aircraft tracking procedure in Hak5 1525.2. I'm pretty close to getting it working, but sadly ADS-B# no longer exists. Can you recommend an alternative? I also tried RTL1090 but it doesn't seem to work with ADS-B Scope, unless I set it up wrong. The RTL1090 program runs; just not sure if I need to switch on a certain setting to make the map show up on ADS-B Scope. Thanks! :-) Update: The RTL1090 beta version has a simplified scope program that works beautifully. However, I am still curious to see if ADS-B Scope will work with the RTL1090 program since it has a nicer layout.

Hi all. I've written an Infusion as a front-end to dump1090. This allows you to nicely track aircraft from your WiFi Pineapple. The infusion requires firmware version 1.1.1+ as that's where we implemented native support for the oh-so-fun RTL-SDR. I've tested it with the DVB-T dongles we (and many others) offer in the HakShop. The infusion allows you to configure a few parameters, start and stop the service, list beacon frames and see aircraft in a realtime map. Only about 60-65 % of the aircraft detected by ADS-B reveal their position. The ones that don't are military and private aircraft - business jets, small single-engined turboprops, and old aircraft lacking a GPS belonging to dubious airline companies. You probably came across the term 'MLAT' or 'multilateration' - a triangulation technique that can reveal the position of these aircraft. It requires a special setup (precise timing) of the ADS-B decoder software and a community of MLAT sharers. It might be a good idea to devote an HAK5 episode to this subject? Late March POTUS and his flying circus were in Brussels, Belgium. Obviously none of the aircraft revealed their position, only the ICAO hex address, callsign, and altitude. POTUS took into the air with a fleet of two US Marine Corps Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King (one of which was 'Marine One') and five US Army Sikorsky UH-60A Blackhawk helicopters (to visit the only American military cemetery in the country). The five Blackhawks revealed themselves on ADS-B Mode S, but the two US Marine choppers went a step further - one was invisible altogether, and in the second one its ICAO hex address had been changed to the non-existing '000001', but they forgot to suppress the altitude, hovering around 1,000 feet, revealing that it belonged to an helicopter. MLAT could unsneak the sneakers! I used PlanePlotter/RTL1090 and an RTL2832U/R820T dongle with the original antenna to track their movements. HAK5 fan from Belgium.
