Rogue AP hide SSID or double

I have been looking for an answer but have not been able to find it yet.

As I understood it, a rogue AP works with a copy of an SSID. And the target device usually automatically connects to this fake SSID. But this means that there are two same SSIDs that both show up in the target person's list of SSIDs, and the target person could easily see both of them just by clicking on her network list. Two SSIDs that are the same are very suspicious.

I always wonder if there is a way to hide the rogue AP's SSID from the target person.

Is there any way, or will a fake SSID always appear in the target's list of SSIDs along with the original SSID?

Have you already done testing? I would assume that the target device would treat the SSIDs as one ESSID.
