Setup:

Laptop with win7

VM on same laptop with Kali

Realtek nw adapter

I connected my realtek adapter in Kali to my wireless router.

I am trying to sniff wireless NW traffic(802.11) with wireshark

I can't see any packets with ip.addr==192.168.2.129 (this is the IP address of my WIN7 machine)

Any ideas as in what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance!

Is the wireless an internal card or USB card? If internal NIC, you can be connected to a network on the host and surf in kali via that adapter, but to sniff you would/should only see your local traffic of yourself and not other wireless devices.

If you want monitor mode, deauth and injection capabilities though, you need a USB card passed to the VM to have control over the wifi adapter settings to make use of things like the Aircrack suite of tools and such. You can't pass full control for monitor mode (if the card is supported) from an internal wireless card to a VM, only from a live boot of the "host" machine or by using a USB card in a VM can you have full control over a compatible wireless NIC. If it is a USB card, make sure its compatible for the things you're trying to do though as not all cards can do more than connect to a network.

Yes, my realtek nw adapter is external, everything up untill this point works, including aircrack suite. Its just that I can't sniff my real laptops packets.
