I have a couple of Palms (ba-dum-tsh, i'll be here all week, try the veal) and TCPMP is a must for playing videos/music. I also use pssh as a SSH client. Not a great deal of freestuff for the palm thats actually that useful, just a butt load of things like Dog Calenders for €15 a pop for some reason.
