However, I do not want to buy ink cartridges for them just to find out they don't work. Is there a way I can find out if the printer is functional without having a cartridge? Sparda Posted July 11, 2011 Share Posted July 11, 2011 You won't know the printer works unless it actually prints some thing. I mean, you can send it the job, and see if it tries to print, or even trick it in to thinking it has ink to print, but the head may be faulty, so unless there is ink to testing it with... you won't know for sure. Infiltrator Posted July 12, 2011 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Printers won't even allow you to print without cartridges, they will simply display an error saying "Please insert/replace cartridge" or a red/orange light will light up indicating something is not right with the printer.
