Kayel Posted May 21, 2010 Share Posted May 21, 2010 I recently aquired Ubuntu 10.04, and I saw Hak.5 S06E14 about using SSH as a Proxy, however that was pretty much the client side. Is there an episode for basic configuration for an SSH Server usage as a Socks Proxy, because several thinks aren't that very bright to me like how to start and stop the SSH Server, if I use it as a SOCKS proxy, is the port 8080 to be forwared on My Gateway router at home where my SSH Server is. If you can establish a SSH connection with putty to your ssh server than the port 8080 can be set to anything, it does not need to be opened at the gateway at all. The port 8080 is available for local use only I could change that to 443 and would still be able to configure my web client to get onto any internet web sites. I saw Darren connecting to an IRC Server by entering the command: "ssh root@??.??.??.?? -D 8080 -L 8081:??.??.??.??:6669" actually tunneling his way in with an SSH Tunnel. Is that port 6669 suppose to be open, since I don't use IRC at all and Is the tunneling option in the SSH Server enabled by default or should it be enabled?
