bobbiac
Quick idea .. if the U3 partition on say .. a Sandisk Cruzer is a cdimg, what stops any1 from making that bootable and installing grub on it? I think it would be an interesting way to make a multipas .. you might even try to fit an ISO loader in there ... eh?
IOSys
what stops any1 from making that bootable and installing grub on it? I think it would be an interesting way to make a multipas .. you might even try to fit an ISO loader in there ... eh? It's entirely doable, the only problem is that not all BIOS will boot from the CD-LUN, even if they can see it (as most BIOS seem to) . Some BIOS will not work if you cold-boot but will on a warm-boot, some may work occasional, some will not boot the CD-LUN if you have other USB-devices attached, some will only use the slow USB etc etc .. Fitting things into the CD-ROM LUN isn't really a problem, you can use the LP-installer to re-size the CD-ROM LUN, see my post here : http://hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic...st&p=114334 Note that you probably need the exact version of the LP-installer specified in that post as sandisk keeps changing how the updater works . I'm not sure how much space you can allocate to the CD-ROM LUN on a sandisk, some controllers seem to limit it to 50% and naturally the limitations of the CDFS filesystem also apply . Non-sandisk U3 drives can do the same, have a look here : http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Talk:Memorex_U3_ISO_Hack Or you can download the Mass Production Tool for the specific controller from flashboot.ru translated version here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash A surprisingly large percentage of recent flash-controllers can be set up with multiple LUN's, including "CD-ROM" or "Autorun Function" as they sometimes call it .
