  1. okay ill try it out, i have symantec enterprise on it, im planning a rebuild in the future anyhow so ill be sure to try it without the anti-virus, i have a feeling that is the culprit...

thanks for all the help guys... much appreciated!!

  2. Tried everything generic, port forwarding, WM11, all legit software... PC see's the xbox, but xbox sees nothing...

Anyone have a fix or alternitive... i just want to watch my ripped movies and listen to my music from my pc when playing rainbow 6 vegas 2

    tried, tversity, winamp remote... nothing

    ...help...

  3. this may sounds odd, but IIRC, previous to me installing the newest symantec corp edition (End Point Protection), i could save as .msg, and the links would work fine. After the install, when i try to open a attachment on a locally saved email, it presents me with the error box "The operation failed. An object could not be found."

    hmmmm

  4. in Outlook (2003/2007) is it possible to save an email WITH the attachments to a local drive (IE: C:) as ONE file format? All i can do is save as a .msg, which only seems to save the text of the email, and the links to the attachments (which never work when you click on them), and then save the attachments separately.

I know this is a mundane question. But it annoys me regularly...

    thanks!

  5. just looking for some advice here, i know its not too complicated of an issue, but you guys usually know what your talking about here so i figured id ask...

Looking into getting 1tb, of storage, wondering if anyone has any experience with the hard drives that are available now. I've heard some real horror stories of hdd's failing very shortly after purchase, and i have alot of data that i cannot lose...

any brand better than other? i was thinking dual 500gb seagates with sata....

basically the most well rounded hdd will suffice, reliability is deff a must...

    thanks for the help...

  6. Trying to install a NIC on Server 2003 Enterprise... it wont load the drivers for xp... its a netgear fa311, im not too familiar with server 2003, do i need a specific piece of hardware for a NIC?

im guessing its not working for some obvious reason i havent thought of...

  7. hey im trying to figure out how to get my wireless router to communicate with a wireless access point via 802.11g

    What is the desired result?

What I mean is, when you say 'communicate', what do you want this communication to achieve?

communicate as in, get my laptop on the interwebs

A super cheap and nasty option would be to use a windows box running ICS. Connect the wireless dongle to the AP, and hook a switch into the NIC. No, its not perfect, but it can be setup in 5 mins using the kit you already have.

i think im going to do this or use ddwrt...

  8. hey im trying to figure out how to get my wireless router to communicate with a wireless access point via 802.11g

i am trying to avoid running a cable...

my laptop (IBM XP Pro) is from the corp i work for, i dont have admin rights to change drivers/install new hardware/software, and i do not feel comfortable hacking it...

so this is the only option i can think of if  i want to use this latptop upstairs in my home (w/o running a wire)...

cable modem -> wire -> wireless router -> wireless connection -> wireless access point -> wire -> laptop

... just need to know how to configure, if it is possible...

any other ideas for a set-up GREATLY appreciated

  9. ok i have a hypothetical scenario...

if i take the 2 sata hard drives (setup for RAID 0 striping) out of one pc... how could i properly hook them up to another machine to pull data from them?

i tried using the sata on my tech pc that is using a simple run-of-the-mill IDE master HD, but when i try to access the RAID disks, it doesnt seem to recognize the format... is there some sort of software or device i can use to help me in this situation?

thanks again, the help is much appreciated.....

  10. ok, thanks, ill just go ahead and repair it and see what i get... and  just to reassure myself, with raid data striping, it  basically takes the 2 HDD's and makes it into 1, and data cannot be pulled from 1 disk with out the other because it would be incomplete... correct?

    thanks for the help

  11. ok so heres the problem... running raid 0 with 2 sata drive's... worked fine for about three years... now its freezing at the blue welcome screen... i dont have much expeirience with raid or sata, so i figured id see what you guys think. If I had to back up the drives, how would i do so? I have another pc I use for tech projects, and it has a sata mobo, but doesnt recognize the format of the raid...

ran chkdsk, didnt do anything, avoiding a repair, mainly need to know hos i can back up... my usb connection only has one sata connection, and my other pc doesnt recognize... so am i SOL?

any ideas will be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks !

  12. Every time i try to use MS virtpc it freezes up on me, no mater if its running from an emulated drive or a physical drive, windows or linux...

anyone have any idea's what may cause this to happen??

my setup isnt the best, but i thought it was more than enough for virtpc to run...

    1.6ghz p4, 512 ram, 60 hdd, and a 120hdd, liteon dvdrw/ sony cd/dvd rom

  13. eh, i like fixing problems without resorting to complete destruction and rebuilding.......

there were 2 trojans found and deleted, everything is back to normal... sometimes its better to find out why a problem happens rather than say f it and waste all that time backing up, formating, re-installing the os + all other programs, than restoring your backed up files... all it usually takes is a few scans and reboots to fix a problem.......

thanks for the help guys, cya around the boards

  14. I have a pc  with a hard drive with 2 partitions,

    C: which contains XP Pro

    D: Which Contains Vista

I want to modify the Boot Menu so i can Have it say

    "Windows XP Pro SP2"

    "Windows Vista Business Edition"

    Instead of

    "Earlier Versions of Windows"

    "Windows Vista Business Edition"

I thought that it would be as simple as modifying the Boot.ini file, but i cant find it...

Does Vista use a different type of boot file? IIRC Boot.bak is in the C: dir and D: dir

Is that the new "Boot.ini"  or am i just missing something?

    thanks!

  15. no defrag, did do a chkdsk /P while in repair console off of the xp pro cd...

could that really cause a problem like this?

what am i thinking, we are talkin about windows here, you can look at the dam thing the wrong way and it will BSOD  LOL

    Try a chkdsk /F

Edit - Removed anti-windows comment, not wanting to start a flame fest.

yea yea i know, cant help but to get aggravated and frustrated with good ole' windows sometimes...

back to topic, i will try that on my next attack...

im also thinking about doing another sfc /scannow for the hell of it...

is there any other system file repairs i can perform? do you know of any good dos shell AV/AS/Reg Repair programs?
