  1. Acrobat 7 will convert PDF to HTML (and a few other editable formats) Also for older versions there is PMC Magellan and other add-ins to convert. I got my MSCE prep material on it this way. But yeah, native support would be great.
  2. Pretty much, yeah. So that we will have generations of efficient, non-thinking worker drones.
  3. Wow, I did not know that Cox was doing filtering. I had been thinking of going back to them (DSL drops out occasionally). That sux and I definitely will not be using them anymore.
  4. Um... ok, I think someone is going to have to fill me in on this one. What's going on here? Things have gotten very weird around here the last couple of days.
  5. I just do not have the words to express my puzzlement. WTF was that all about?
  6. I personally haven't been checked in, but I visited bunches of ppl, think I even picked up a few. But, back in high school, it seemed like friends of mine were getting sent away by the busload. I think that some parents just cannot deal w/ a rebellious child and so off to hospital they go. Also, whoever came up w/ that whole mental hospital/rehab summer camp thing should be shot. I have a deep fear of mental hospitals now, I think I would honestly freak if anyone tried to put me in one.
  7. I feel the same way about reading text on screen. This puppy comes in handy tho. http://www.ebookwise.com/ebookwise/ebookwise1150.htm
  8. You lucky bastard. *Drools* I had seen them advertising that service on their site a while back, Almost convinced me to move back to Hampton, VA
  9. I really do not think that a forum called "Hak.5" is the place to be looking for authentic OS CDs. heheh
  10. I haven't used it in a few years, but I recall it taking 10-20% of my CPU time and I think a good bit of memory. I do not recall what processor I was running at the time.
  11. I am still a pretty big fan of grunge: Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Silverchair, Candlebox... etc. Other than that... Pink Floyd, K's Choice, NiN, Incubus, A bunch of classic rock and some classical music (gotta calm down sometime).
  12. PeerGuardian is what made me switch to the Smoothie. It takes entirely too many resources, especially if you have a lot of connections going.
  13. Some of the questions/responses in my case mod thread got me wondering about this. Apparently there are a couple of other Engineering types out there. So, What type of job is everyone in, or what field do you plan to go into? I do Industrial Engineering/IT Management for a machinist. I would love to open an internet cafe type place someday if I can ever work out a good business model.
  14. Sweet dude. Let me know what you think. Also, be sure to check the Homebrew/Customization section of their forums, they have some great modules in there.
  15. AutoCAD is still #1 for 2D drafting, but for parametric modeling, I have noticed that most people use SolidWorks.
  16. I use Mechanical Desktop mostly, Inventor rarely and AutoCAD for simple stuff. I have been meaning to take a look at SolidWorks, seems like a lot of ppl are using that package and I am curious about it.
  17. Use a foward security package, it randomizes the encryption key after connection is made so there is no way of decrypting it in the future.
  18. I think M$ is going to win this round overall. And I already have my 360. Once Team Exodus comes out w/ a mod chip, 360 will Pwn all other consoles.
  19. The laser cutter should do the job. Probably better as they are more efficient on thinner material than waterjets. That is a killer project. We have a CNC mill, but not a CNC lathe. :( And since I am an engineer and not a machinist, it takes a while for me to run a manual lathe. I had not thought of making a whole case, I was pondering making some nice motorcycle rims tho.
  20. Wow, I did not know about that. Most of the systems I build for ppl are either ultra-cheap on-board video types, or killer gaming machines. I rarely look at middle of the road type stuff. Thanks for the info.
  21. VaKo, you may want to check schools in your area or some companies to see if they are upgrading hardware or have done so recently. A lot of these places will have old hardware just sitting on a shelf somewhere or cluttering up someone's office. Also, ask your techie friends... most have a bunch of old parts laying around the house. Unless you are going to have a lot of computers hooked up and a lot of scanning modules installed even a P1 w/ 32MB of ram would do it.
  22. You could, however, you will face some port fowarding problems if you have any PCs running server type apps behind the 2nd router (webserver, bittorrent, whatever). Fixing that problem would void a lot of the benifits of having the smoothie. Smoothie is a complete router/NAT firewall/proxy server solution. Also, since it is open source, there are add-on modules for a lot of other features. If you do not have a seperate 10/100 switch and need the 2nd router for connectivity purposes, I would hook smoothie into one of the LAN ports, not the WAN. If you have any questions when you get started, send me a PM here or an IM, contact details are in my profile.
  23. I do not ahve any pics Melodic, nor do I have camera w/ me. GF is comming over later, I'll use her phone to snap a couple tho. Yes you need at least 2 NICs... one for the "Red" (WAN) interface, and one for the "Green" (LAN). You can add additional NICs if you want to have additional LAN segments at the router as well (DMZ, putting WAPs on different segments, etc.) Essentially, it is a linux firewall, uses a stripped down linux kernel. Setup is pretty easy. 1) Download cd image from http://smoothwall.org/get/ and burn to cd 2) Scrape together any old hardware you have and build a pc like any other. Min specs can be found on smoothwall site. Add in you NICs 3) Boot pc from burned image CD to start setup *Note This will format your hard drive.* 4) After drive is formatted and files are copied it will take you to config screen. Here you will assign which NIC is for LAN and WAN (and any others you may have) there is a scan option which will find installed NICs. Enter your LAN and WAN ip addys (DHCP is available on the WAN side as well as PPPoE and static), set hostname, passwords, and enable/disable LAN DHCP. 5) Once initail setup is complete, there is a web based interface that you use to control it just enter your smoothwall ip w/ proper port i.e. 192.168.100:445 and you are there. You can remove keyboard, mouse monitor at this point, there is a command shell inside the web interface. Now you are ready to roll. :D There are lots of add-on modules on the smoothwall forum
  24. I get a 404 error for every movie torrent I try. Just making sure everything is finctional.
