  1. There's the movie Firewall where apparently (I didn't see it yet) Harrison Ford is the sysadmin for some prize target in charge of the firewall. Criminals attack him at his house, hold his family hostage and thus force him to find a way into the system, beyond the firewall he so dilligently erected.

It sounded like something that Hollywood would dumb down for the masses to the point where anybody with a digital watch is capable of starting a nuclear war so for now I'm keeping my distance, waiting for a moment I don't mind losing.

Yea copper it seems like that hollywood has to dumb down every hacker movie out there but I just wish that they could make ONE really good and accurate hacker movie!!! and I would say that the most accurate movie was ALGORITHM witch i though to be a great movie

  2. Hi !

I just bought a Macbook air 11" and decided to install Kali 1.0.8 on it as a dual boot. Everything went smoothly but when the installation finished , I had no internet connection. In the top right hand side it says "No network devices available".

When I type "iwconfig" in the console I get this:

    lo no wireless extensions

And when I type "lspci" I can see this :

03:00.0 Network controller : Broadcom Corporation Device 43a0 (rev 03)

Is there a way to fix this so that I can get my wireless card working on Kali ?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated !

Well first are you using VMWare or Virtual Box and you need to buy an external usb network card I recommend buying.....

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002WCEWU8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it is the one that I use and it works great but the only down side is that its not compatible with 802.11 N.... but is compatible with B/G which is what most routers use

  3. This is a sick project and when it is finished maybe darren could do a review on it and I have a question were did you get the box lol I know that its a weird question but i can't find out were to buy it

  4. I need help because I have no clue about hardware and I would love to learn about it since it is like 50% of the computer field! So if anyone has any books or tutorials or anything to help get me started it would be greatly appreciated. The reason that I am asking is because I have no clue where to start like I said I don't know anything about hardware... I mean I know how a computer works and functions and I can build one but that is as far as I go.....

This is what I mean some one showed me this on my cell phone jammer post and I have NO clue what any of this means!!

    -Thanks

  5. So lets say that there is a victims computer on a desk and there is a Ethernet line running from the laptop to a RJ45 jack in the wall so if I unplug that and plug it into the star and then run a little 1 foot patch cable to the RJ45 jack and then run another wire to my desk and open up WIRESHARK i can see everything and not show up on network scans this is awesome!!!!!!

And by the way this situation is just in theory

  6. This link just gives me the default creds I already know the creds I just want to break into it another way like what spazi said

I believe the common way to find exploits on embedded systems is to look at the firmware. Sometimes it's just luck.

Take it apart with binwalker and ida pro.

Understand how it works and check for common exploits like common passwords, cgi code execution etc.

The security on embedded systems can sometimes be horrible.

I will check out binwlker and ida pro! thanks

and ill do a lot of googling! (DIGININJA)

  7. High price doesn't equal high security. Actually, more often than not it means more security problems because the high price means lots of features and each feature is potentially a security risk.

I mean, you can buy an AP for like 20 bucks that will be next to impossible to break into yet every so often exploits are found for the Cisco's and Juniper's and Huawei's of today...

    Yea i figured

  8. Okay let me start off by saying that I am not doing anything malicious I am just trying to break into my ip camera that I bought and is on my network so hold back all of your comments of how this is illegal because IT IS NOT! okay now that that is out of the way let me say that my inspiration to take on this task was when I watched Craig Heffner at Black Hat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8DjTcANBx0

I just don't understand how he gets into the camera's and can anyone help my try to exploit MY IP CAMERA which the antenna doesn't work on it so I have to use Ethernet  and would not having the option of wifi limit me in any way? I'm 99% sure that this camera has security flaws because it is a cheap 40$ camera that I picked up on amazon and then I got a 15$ rebate so it was technically a 25$ camera and Heffner showed multi-thousand dollar cameras being exploited so...... yea! If any of you guys can help me that will be great since I am very interested in how Ip-Camera's can be exploited and yea for the final time this will be on my network!

    -Thanks Guys

  9. "Hackers" and "wargames" are just classics :)

Cheesy lines and story line but you gotta love it.

In the realm of the hackers is my favorite documentary, but it has a kinda sad ending.

I read a book called "the cuckoos egg" which actually mentions some of the hackers mentioned in the documentary. Funny coincidense[/quote

Thanks i will watch the documentary later and sneakers and hackers was pretty good for being made in the early 90's!!

  10. BT5? I'm not sure what any of your abriviations mean lol. Like I said. I am VERY new to this.

Okay so this is why you have to do some research but it my bad that I didnt specify what I was talking about okay so BT5 is Backtrack 5 which is a linux operating system that is full of hacking programs and tools!!!!

And its okay because you have to start somewhere!!!! Lol

This is a great community of guys and im sure none of us would have a problem helping u out if ur stuck!!!

  11. So far I have seen....

    1. Algorithm ( great movie )
    2. Sneakers ( another great movie and pretty funny )
    3. Hackers ( really cheesey at points but some good hacking scenes )
    4. here are some documentary's on youtube....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_s2vQpCLHE ( Secret history of hacking: really good! )
( here is a 13 min clip of an interview done by BBC on a former lulzsec member: I haven't seen this one yet)
( hackers are people too: haven't seen this one yet )
( secret life of machines: this one is good if you are a hardware hacker and there are multiple episodes )
( unauthorized access: I haven't seen this one yet )

    5. War games
    6. Battle Royal
    7. If you look at my in depth post on XBMC and install it you can find some hacking documentary's that haven't been publicly released if you search "hacking" on 1channel!!!!

    8. Track down (which is on netflix and is about kevin mitnick)

    9. Hacker documentary from PBS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjUzMWF8Lxg

  12. There are a few ways you can do this. One is the use a cellphone with a modified baseband and as Packet Ninja said spam the crap out of the frequencies. This can be in a range of 10 feet or a mile depending on the radio. Most of this is illegal unless you have FCC permission. I know a while back ( a year or two ago) it was legal for someone to use one within a 10-20 foot radius but i think it became so bad they made it illegal completely. Another way is to get a wireless providers in-home tower, mod the baseband and use that to intercept packets rather then for the actually tower too. With this tho i think i remember hak5 covering someone doing this at one point and decrypting the packets.

Thanks super-6-1 for the idea and i know that this is a touchy topic because of the law but you know what that doesnt mean we cant talk about it and share information

  13. Looking at the one above I know of another that maybe a little cheaper and smaller. its good as i used to have one when the nvidia 650m's were out. It was good but for me to small. If the screen size of 13.3 inch is small go up to the 14 inch. Its good and small. Not to mention the 2-3 storage options you have on this baby. 2 Mstat slots ( card like SSD) and a normal ssd or hdd for storage.

    http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP7338

that looks like a really good laptop I just don't think that I could handle a really small screen like that I guess that you would get use to it tho!

  14. Another laptop i would recommend is the base items here. I5 or I7, 8 gigs of ram at least. 1 ubs3.0 maybe a SSD but i wouldn't if your going with storage or if you can get one with a dual 2.5 inch bay. right now i have a Sony vaio flip 13a thats really good. You don't really need a GPU unless you want to do brute force. It really depends on what you want to do and how "future proof" you wanna get.

I use a cr-48 from google and it works with no problem. It has a dual core atom and 2 gig's of ram that blow threw anything i throw at it. the only downside to these is the 16 gig of ssd storage from the mini-pci slot. You can get one for 100-200 on ebay or craigslist. I like it due to no branding and no one knows what it is. Gives it that mysterious look to it.

Yea is really what I am trying to do I want it to be future proof and that is why I am willing to pay more now instead of buying another laptop 5 years later you know what I mean!

Also I want to run some virtual machines and I will probably assign them each 2GB of RAM so I am happy with the 12GB of RAM that comes with the MSI and I know I probably wont be using it but remember I want it to be "future proof"
