No... The USB Socket by standard only does 500ma, the cable imposes no limits on the power going down the wire.
-Foxtrot
I understand now, I tought that could be the section cable to impose.
Thanks! Today is a soldering day! :)

If you are looking for the the USB Type A pinout, then here it is , Of course that is for USB2.0 and USB1.0.
-Foxtrot
Thanks that will do it.
I believe the normal USB cable, only
allow 500 mA normally. In my case, the Anker 3 10000mha output 2A and I should
juice the hub with 2A to ensure there is no underpowered issues. Does anyone
knows if this could limit the juice to 500mA?

Lol ok IT WAS A USER ISSUE. (in my case, like almost every time!)
In option anon_swap it is still set to 0, will try change to 1 when arrive home and let you guys know.
Many thanks

Already did it, and the partition for swap does not appear like, so it look ok. Will try to follow this vídeo from one of our members just to my sure this is not a USER issue :p

HI, I'm also trying to do a USB to DC but for my hub usb.
I'm using a 3mm jack power and need to connect to a USB type A. The jack is + in center but I don't know how to map to USB internal conectores.
Anyone has the diagram to this cable? Also, it needs to hold 2A.
Thanks!

Fstab, change to sdb1 and sdb2
Follow this guide.
-Foxtrot
Many thanks to both. Seb, It was actually really the sda/sdb setting.
Foxtrot, I was following that article, but at the moment it doesn't appear as available in swap line.
What information can help troubleshooting this issue?

Hi folks,
A few weeks after, my new usb hub finally arrived!
Using 2.7.7. in MKIV and at the moment here is the status:
3G pen - OK
USB hub - I believe ok (still in brick power just in case)
SanDisk 4GB - Half OK - Appear in resources, but no option to install infusions in USB storage. In none of the several infusions.
Does anyone knows what can it be?
Here it goes my logs and setup pic.
Many thanks!
P.S- Baby steps, almost there! :P

Hi webdirector,
Will post my fstab no prob asap. But in my case, I could mount one of the two partitions and when try to use disappeared again. Still waiting for a working usb hub to identify if was a power issue like most of this problem.
Will post it today or tomorrow, sorry for the delay.
Cheers,

Hi guys,
As promissed just to let you guys now that 2.7.7 fixed my 3G problem. Many thanks to Sebkinne for his work and interest in user satisfation. Next steps for me, waiting for a new usb powered hub to try the setup of MIV+4GBpen+3G+Alfa.
Cheers.

I will take a look at the model for you when i have a chance. i power my hub via usb off of a usb port from my batt back. as far as i know most / all usb hubs will be 5V 1-2A as native usb power is 5V. when you get a new one take a look at what voltage it requires. it should say on the package or on the bottom of the usb hub. as for my cable to power it. i was going to cut a usb cable and the end off my ac adaptor that came with them and home brew that with a soldering iron and some heat shrink but i was lucky and had a power cable from a blutooth headset i had that was the same size barrel connector on one end and usb on the other so i didnt have to frankenstein anything to make it work.
most barrel power connectors are pos in the centre and neg on the outside but some devices are ass backwards to take a look. you can confirm your polairity with a multimeter useing a simple conductivity test. should be centre to center and outside to outside in your case.
i think overvoltage is what cooked your usb hub if you were feeding it 9-12Vdc
how did the new FW help you?
Haroo
Thanks Haroo, will need to buy a new powered usb hub but its not a easy task for this specific goal.
FW 2.7.7, will test as soon as I arrive home.

Alright d1000,
3G modems work again as of 2.7.6 - your USB stick should work too as you reported.
Hope this helps.
Many thanks! Will try and give some feedback.
Cheers mate.

my pineapple wont power up a 4gb cruzer fit without a powered usb hub. there is nothing you can do about the sketckyness of usb other than a powered hub. most usb hubs run on 5V 1 A was the battery unit you hooked it to set for 9 or 12V was the polarity of the barrel connector right?
i bought a small belkin usb hub for mine as like i said it wouldnt even mount sda1 and sda2 without it. the pineapple is a low power device and cant power much. if i use my 12V adapter on the pineapple my flash drive will work without a hub. but if i power it from ANY 5v source such as bat pack or usb port off laptop i need my hub. i power my hub off of my bat pack. i have a 6600mah batt pack with 2 usb ports. one port powers the pineapple and the other powers the hub. so far i have not had any issues with this setup. i have my flash drive and alfa running great off that setup. no issues. it seems to me that the usb issues you are having are normal as its the same as what i went through when i got mine. there is a steep learning curve with these things and researching hardware setups is part of that curve.
hope that helps
Haroo
Hi Haroo, thanks for your input. Regarding the powered hub, I didn't check the polarity :( will buy a new one and check that. Can you point me to your especific model and let me know if you needed to invert yours? Do you juice it at 9 or 12v?
Absolutly agree about the curving learn, still learning to deal with power and usb issues in pineapple.
Thanks!

Hi Scout,
No news about this issues?
I believe your post describes 100% my experience with MKIV.
Thanks,

Hi guys,
Like I said before, one of the diferences between the modem behavior in 2.7.5. and 2.7.0 is the model.
in 2.7.5.
USB Connections
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552/E1800/E173 (HSPA modem)
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hubIn 2.7.0.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 12d1:1001 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E169/E620/E800 HSDPA ModemThe other is "ls /dev/tty*"
In 2.7.5.
Execute: ls /dev/tty*
/dev/tty
/dev/ttyATH0
/dev/ttyS0In 2.7.0.
Execute: ls
/dev/tty*
/dev/tty
/dev/ttyATH0
/dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
/dev/ttyUSB2Because I needed to work with 3G pen, I downgrade to 2.7.0. and everything is working with 3g pen connectivity.
Hope it helps debbugging 2.7.5.
Cheers,

Love the product and glad its not an iphone. ;)
The best thing about the pineapple is how many different configurations you can try. What works for some may not work for others, but if you give up trying, you may never find what works best for you.
Thanks Hak5 and WM for the awesome stuff. I get excited when I see a new module of phish site that someone has shared, gives me something to do with my boring days at work.
cp
Glad it's not a iPhone too! Hate Apple lol
In my case, just loosing most of the battles with my Pineapple from day 1, but hey still fighting with it! The end of war is still far! Hoping for a stable 2.8.0 that could fixe some of my issues with USB. :)
-
In version 2.7.0 and 2.7.4 I also did for the 3G and microsd for a day lol, then dissapear with no reason at all. In 2.7.5 the pen model is detected now with diferent model and the ajustment in 3g script does not work. Always returning "usb-modeswitch: switching seemingly failed". Where can I reach the 2.7.0 without OTA? Would like to flash because without that I'm stuck in 2.7.5. Thxs

Just a few observations....
1) It would be fair to say that a Pineapple is not in the same class as an IPhone. An IPhone is a consumer product. If my overpriced IPhone doesn't work properly, I'll politely complain, and expect a solution. A pineapple is more specialized, requires some skill to use, and is not for everybody.
2) While you may have paid for the hardware, the software is a separate, open source product.
3) It's nice and generous thing that some people are willing to help people for free with open source software.
4) Constantly saying a 'Product' is bad, defective, etc. , more than actually trying to find a solution yourself, is likely not the smartest way to encourage people to help you.
There may be situations where acting like a bully is required, and might get results. This doesn't seem like one of those situations.
Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for your opinion.
1) far from comparing with a product like iphone, but for me this is a overpriced product when does not deliver what is suppost to.
2) I did not pay for HW alone, read the Hak5 site and you will find that you are buying a product with a hak framework in it. Thats the all purpose of the product. If not BT5 would do the work for me.
3) Agree with you, but this is my opinion regarding the stable of the product and not the good will of the comunity.
4) The purpose of a forum is to let other folks now what they can expect if they buy the product. This is not beeing bully or "smartass", thats my 5cents like you give yours. I remember that I'm trying to solved this for weeks, and with more than 200 dolars spend with no return at all.
Over and out.
Cheers.

To be honest, you provide no logs, no detailed information. You don't follow the guidelines we put up etc etc. I don't know how I can help you best.
Calling this product raw is simply not fair, I think there is plenty of proof for it... But it is your opinion and if you think so, fine. Reiterating this point though will probably not get you answers. As I said, I am happy to help but you NEED to provide the information we need. If you check over other threads, we are always happy to help and do our best to make everything work! I would LOVE to get this up and running for you ;)
If you provide more detailed logs (syslog after trying 3g.sh) etc I will see if we can get this debugged.
Sebkinne,
I don't put in question your great effort in try to help me and other folks.
But, first, I post, my 3G script, the system logs, the errors and also what changed. What logs do your talk about I didn't show?
Since I bought pineapple, I've tried 3 battery packs, no usb working until now. 4 diferente types of storage, 3x 3G pens ...
Sorry but If we look for the principal threads that exist in the fórum, a HUGE number of them are regarding, POWER, USB and 3G.
Sorry mate, but until now, the product doesn't worth the Money! Just my opinion...
Thanks for your help and effort ;)

Just change the 3g.sh entry.
I've changed like I put in spoiler, just changed the model from 1001 to 1446. Still doesn't work.
Sorry man, this product is to raw yet :(

Well, what doesn't work in regards to 3g? Is it all configured properly?
D1000:
Well, after 2.7.5 the huawei is detected as a diffent model.

As I said, the USB Hub thing has nothing to do with the pineapple.
If a 3g pen works, the USB Port seems to work. I have asked multiple times, have you re-flashed? What does ls /dev/sd* give you?
I would love to help you out but we need to debug this more.
Thanks for you interest in my worries.
Well now I was trying to put 3G to work and guess what? Not working!
After that, unpluged the anker, bricked to Wall the pineapple, put the scandisk 4G and worked!
Execute: ls /dev/sd*
/dev/sda
/dev/sda1
/dev/sda2
Both sda1 and 2 appear in resources. Now its the 3G that don't work. I honestly don't understand the unstability,...

@d1000
How did you burn out your hub? That is hardly the pineapple's fault?
If you bought another USB and you are still not getting it to mount, I would suggest you do an ls /dev/sd* and see if it gets recognized at all. From the errors in the log it seems like you are having hardware issues. It is possible that your USB port has some sort of defect.
@Crepsidro
I think that is wrong. The fit works fine for a lot of people (though yes, it has the read-only bug). The USB pack is meant to power the pineapple for a medium duration while being lightweight and have a good size, I wouldn't call it too weak. But hey, that is your opinion.
My new powered usb was powered using anker 10k output barrel directly to usb hub. The light appears up and down in intensity, then smell burn and that's all. No more NEW hub.
200 € after, still no USB drive in pineapple, or hub usb working. Almost two months after bought, the only think that works fine is 3g pen without microsd in it.
So sad about this produt :(

When you upgrade I suggest 2.7.5 - lots of USB related fixes.
My case is in 2.7.5 :(

I have the same problem. Will try the reflash try. Thanks airman
MK4 - USB, struggling with it few weeks after. Stable product?
