  1. There have been a few papers written about weaknesses in the P-25 standard but I can not find any source code in reference to possible key recovery of encrypted payloads.

Does anyone have any information on progress of key recovery when it comes to P25 encryption?

  2. I am looking for a small(no bigger then 12 inch) lightweight portable monitor that will run on batteries, preferably with VGA inputs but would take DVI, HDMI, etc. I am looking for something when working on the backside of server racks.

Do any tablets on the market support video input for recording or display?

  3. first things first... HOLY CRAP! and why do I have a metal taste in my mouth?

i just got the sma/rp-sma connector. I hooked up the 18dbi yagi to mk5 while monitoring nearby networks, just to see how much difference there is. I did this by holding the yagi in my hand and pointing it in different directions. after about 5 minutes, I have the metallic taste in my mouth. (note ~ the last time i had this metallic taste in my mouth, i ordered a bunch of very powerful, very small magnets and create a ring around my finger so I could make pens moves, etc... that lasted for about an hour until i almost vomitted... i guess the magnets were messing with the iron in my blood and I had a blood tasting burps with a metalic taste in my mouth... or like when taking very strong antibiotics) anyways... I put the yagi away for now until i figure out the best way to mount it.

the available AP went from 10 to 16 and this was not done in a residential area.

Maybe you transferred the taste from something to your mouth?

If you are really that sensitive to that small amount of RF radiation I would keep FAR away from all RF sources. Maybe look into shielding rooms in your house you spend the most time in.

In any case I would see a doctor about your symptoms as soon as you can!

  4. The antennas is one that connect to the starndard Alfa H/NH/NHA models. That link looks right. The Pineapple has the SMA female and the Alfa needs to connect to a TMC male (Is that correct or I have got it backward?) so this must be the one: http://www.l-com.com/coaxial-coaxial-adapter-sma-female-tnc-male

Maybe I am confused(wouldn't be the first)

If you are talking about one of these:

    http://www.alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=67&ps=23

They use SMA style connectors not TNC style connectors. The link you posted to the hakshop SMA Male Jack to RP-SMA should work.

  5. These are not covert but are great quality, general use antennas for your lab or toy box...

Edit: I would still get an Alfa, if you need to do anything with wifi on the Macbook Pro. It is all around easier to get things working with the Agfa then try and do things with the chipset in the MBP.

  6. I just pulled mine out for a maintenance charge last night.

Toggle the switch on the battery to the "on" position and charge until the light on the charger goes green.

I was reading somewhere that some chargers don't have the green light. They are red when charging and turn off when charged(don't know if this is true).

  7. Anyone have any recommendation for a cheap laptop to run backtrack on?

I am not looking for anything super powerful. Something if it got lost/stolen wouldn't break the bank but still has decent support for ethernet/wifi and doesn't weight 20 pounds.

  8. Also, if you do eventually become a pentester you'll likely find most all professional bodies will strip you of any accreditations you may hold should you try to mess with the Police, refuse to hand over data etc.

Oh and you'd likely lose your job if your employer found out.

Do nothing illegal, nothing to hide etc. :)

I 100% disagree. If you work for a security firm and possibly have proprietary and/or confidential information on any device and you voluntarily turn that information over to the police or leave it in a state that easily allows them to access it THAT would be grounds for immediate termination and possible civil judgements against the company and yourself. If the police feel the need to see any information they can get a warrant.

Also the mindset that you have nothing to hide if you are not doing anything illegal is flawed on so many levels.

This thread should probably be moved out of the MkV section.

  9. I should probably just shut up in this thread but...

Again I don't see anyone here really being hateful about your original post. We are just asking questions and making general statements.

Also I was trying to be funny with my first reply. I am sorry if I offended you.

  10. Why are y'all hating on my stuff man? I fixed a problem.

    I WILL SHOW YOU HATE!!!

Your holes are drilled crooked and your photo is blurry!!!1!!

However, in all seriousness I don't see anyone showing any hate here.

You are just the first person I that I know of that has reported a rebooting issue caused by overheating.

  11. Ignoring all the other issues in the OP original situation, what struck me was.

"Bob tries to explain to the police"

Huge mistake right there, NOTHING you explain to the police is going to help you.

Along the lines of what mrgray said consent to nothing, and ask for a/your lawyer.

Here is an video of a lawyer and police officer explaining why even if what you are doing is 100% legal.

  12. Kudos, btw, on not soldering down the RF shields. +1 for repairability should, gourd forbid, the device take an accidental bath. Much easier to dry out this way =)

Some of the tabs that hold the shields are soldered. I have two boards and the tabs that have been soldered are not the same.

Re-work on these boards is NOT fun!

  13. I assure you it is in fact center positive. Try your USB to DC Barrel cable and see. As for replacements, we can't warranty against stupid (no offense) but if you contact shop@hak5.org with your order # we might be able to work out a small dumbass sympathy discount (again no offense).

Edit: Also you get to go down in history as the first to fry a five.

    Johnny Five would be proud...

Wait, I thought I heard the MKV was unbrickable?!?!

  14. I hate RP connectors!

I have an entire bag of adapters... male sma to male sma, rp-male sma to rp-male sma, female sma to female sma, rp-female sma to rp-female sma, female sma to male sma, rp-male sma to female sma, rp-female to rp-male sma, and the list goes on and on. I won't even get into the amount of N-type, BNC, MCX, MMCX, U.FL adapters I have. Even with all these adapters when I get into the field it is about an 50-50 chance I am still missing the exact adapter I need.

There are benefits to putting a female rp-sma on a device like the pineapple. Yes you have the risk of the center pin getting bent/damaged BUT the solid pin has a lot less potential to wear-out and is a lot easier to clean. Now I have to be careful not to get cheesy-poof dust into the female connectors of the pineapple. :)

I 100% agree with signal loss and problems caused by the pig tail but I do not understand how a rp-female vs. non-rp connector is any better when it comes to signal loss. Do you have any links to documentation showing this? I am an amateur radio operator but this is the first time hearing this.
