  1. I use firefox, chrome, chromium(=chrome, with better privacy)

Most of time only firefox, then if want to ssh tunnel some sites I use chrome for that.

    Thanks for your response. :)

Chrome you say? Might try that. I've used Google on my desktop myself. Which chromium browser do you use? I like Comodo Dragon.

  2. Recently I came into possession of an Asus eee PC. It has Ubuntu as the OS. Connected last night on to the forums here with Firefox using WLAN. Apparently, Firefox is the default browser for Ubuntu? Was doing some research into Ubuntu as I'm more familiar with Windows OS and MAC OS. Really liking the Ubuntu OS. Crisp and clean and has a very nice feel to it. Would like to try out some other browsers with it and was considering perhaps Opera. Would like to know how many members here use Ubuntu on a daily basis and what browser they use with it. Comments? Recommendations? FYI Firefox is my favorite browser at the moment, but, I'm willing to try out other browsers. I've done this on my desktop PC which has a Windows OS. Who knows the next one I try might become my new favorite. I like to try new things, especially when it comes to computers. Liking the Ubuntu OS very much.

  5. Going to buying that for my nephew for this upcoming Christmas. Who knows I might be playing it more myself! Really liking the look of it. Thanks to all for posting the links. :)

  6. With a lot of shit, I mean I installed a lot of unnecessary things, a lot of data scatter around on different places, so I had chosen to go for a fresh clean install and tidy up my data management on my pc.

I never opened my mbp before, afraid I would brake the warranty if I do so ....

I don't think my fan is that dirty but doesn't hurt to take a look at it.

You said it was about three years old? IMHO I don't think it would hurt to open it up and give it a good cleaning, been doing that with my PC as long as I've owned it and when it was under warranty. Well, to be honest I'm licensed to work on all makes of PC's and have a MAC license. ;)

If the fan isn't dirty, could be some other conflicts i.e. hardware issues, doesn't look like software to me.

    Good luck!

  7. Hi everyone :)

I'm looking at buying either a Macbook or a PC notebook.

It's for a home based computer consulting business I'm running. I won't be needing something that has a lot of bells and whistles or like a race car. LOL I'm not going to be using it for gaming.

I'm leaning towards a Macbook since IMHO it's got the best hardware. My brother bought one recently (he's a mechanical engineer) and actually has Windows 7 as his OS on his Macbook.

I've been pricing out different makes of PC notebooks i.e. Sony, Toshiba, etc. and Macbooks ,etc. and was thinking of even having Windows 7 with Linux running underneath as my OS. Also, I'll be using a mobile stick to connect to the internet.

Any suggestions? And what types of laptops/notebooks/mini net-books do you all have and what do you like about them and their specs?

It will help in my decision.

    Thanks! :)

Hak5 is a great forum and all the members are so nice here. :)

(I'm a little puzzled at how the rating system here works when you click to vote on a person's post. Not sure why mine is a -1. But, that's OK. Maybe I worded this wrong? Please bear with me I'm new here and learning the ropes of this forum. Am really enjoying it here. Very helpful and informative topics. Thanks! :))

  8. Actually I had win7 home premium vista to win7 upgrade key, which allowed me to get win7 hp 64bit activated.

I got disk from torrent, since I had only 32bit version. I found one, that claimed that its clean copy on MSDN subscriber win7 hp 64bit. That files sha1 matched sha1 from MS site. So that's how I made sure my windows disk is clean.

    I build it myself, it's

intel i7 2600, (If you want to virualize you don't want that K version)

    Asus P8H67-m Pro b3

    8gb ram

    1TB hdd

GPU is inegrated in processor (sandy bridge). Its enough for HD movies, FSX.

    Antec 300 case.

    620W power supply.

Good to know. :) I always keep back ups of my OS, just in case. ;)

Sounds like a really nice machine you built. Really like the specs. :-)

  9. I use the K-Lite Code Pack and have the current version, which also includes media player classic. You can also configure the settings. I like this better than the VLC player.

  10. Hi

Im buying new computer 8gb ram i7 2600.

Im going to install ubuntu 64bit and windows. I have win 7 32bit oem license. Could I download win 7 64bit and use my 32bit product key.

    https://www.dreamspark.com/

Offers free windows products for students. I guess that I could install win server 2008 to my computer. Does normal apps work in that. I mean firefox, MS office.

I know that normal firewalls doesn't work in servers. Any recommendations foe firewall and virus protection.

How about games like BF2 GTA etc. Does those work in windows server

You might be able to use your 32bit product key. Try it. I wouldn't recommend downloading win 7 64bit from a torrent either. You might be able to get win 7 64 bit from the microsoft.com site without having to pay for the upgrade.

Just out of curiosity. What make is your computer? is it a brand name or a clone?

I'm going to buying a new one myself for a computer consulting business I'll be starting shortly and am looking at what would be the best PC for my business.

    Good luck to you.

  11. Hello!

I'm new here and can't seem to find how to configure the about me section nor enter my avatar and when I try to change my profile, I keep getting an error message.

This seems very strange, since I'm not a novice when it comes to computers.

Is this a glitch? If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Very nice looking board BTW and looking forward to getting to know some of you. My friends call me a Computer Guru. ;)But, I can't seem to change my settings here. LOL
