  1. My computer is directly connected to the router, both are. And now my problem just got worse, with absolutely no changed at all, the laptop doesnt get any internet.

And you've installed the correct networkdriver on your laptop?

Maybe you should check your routersettings. You might have limited acces speed to your laptopconnection, otherwise, also check/change your networkcable, it could be damaged.

when you use the command: "ping 192.168.1.1" how many miliseconds respond time does it have?

  2. Sounds alright, do you have a paypal account where people can help with the deposit, when it comes to booking? Just PM it when it comes time.

Yeah I have a paypal account, but wait untill I have booked. I'll pay everything in advance but I first need to know how many people will come. Once we know with how many people we are I'll PM then all of the "signed up" people.

  3. Are your directly connecter to your router or throught a server on your wired network?

Mostly when I encounter that problem I shut down my explorer.exe and my internet works. If your using firefox you might check your "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests". type in the adressentry: "about:config" and search for it. When its set on 1 set it to 12. When it's set to hight, 50 for example, lower it cause some servers have a "anti-hammer" function;)

If you're lazy you just can download fasterfox which will do it for you.

    Hope this will help you.

  4. I've got a reply from the helter skelter hostel and I said that we would probably be with 8 till 10 people. Now they tried to put us in seperated rooms etc. But I thought it would be nicer if we all sleep in the dormitory. That's a room for 168€/night (for us all) with 12 beds in it. Now, we still don't know how many people would come but the guys from the hostel said that we can wait with booking until 2 days before the arrival. But I think we should setup a deathline to subscribe, let's say the 1st of august?

Untill then we can deside what exactly we are planning to do etc. so that other people who are still hesitating to come can see what we are up to.

Also, please register your name at the HackPack08-page so it is easier to see how many people will come.

I forgot to mention: breakfast is 9€/person for the 3 mornings.

Even if we are with 7 people, we still can take a dormitory, but that would be 24€/night ,still, it's reasonable. so the more people there are coming the more cheaper it is.

Note: if we are only with 6 we could take the 6 person dorm for 18€/night

  5. Given that you know what your doing and don't accidentally kill your system/programs.

explorer.exe != iexplore.exe somehow i found that out the hard way..

also on this topic i have 7 svchost.exe and it is annoying as hell dunno if its norton or a bunch of windows xp programs running in background but i lag to hell every time and i dont want to kill off those processes because i know that they are needed, HJT has nothing to say on this matter

Yeah, but I often work without my explorer shell. And btw you can easily launch your explorer shell again so that shouldn't be a problem. But the svchost.Exe is a bit more complicated, you should stay off of it cause when you terminate the wrong one you get an system message that your pc wil terminate in one minute (you can try it for fun if you like or don't believe me:p) but the processes of the local user can all be terminated. Just terminate all the procces (exept your firewall/ virus program) and you'll see that your pc will speed up.

Also just do a clean install of your OS should also fix the problem. With my windows distributions I do it all the time, once a month install everything again.

  6. It's a known issue, see This link or you can disable the updater from the command promt with:

    REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\FeatureLockdown" /v bUpdater /d 0 /t REG_DWORD /f

I assumed that you're using windows, although your avatar doens't say so.
