  1. It's all good not everyone can be a nerd like me for wikipedia digging up Japanese info on the power rangers lol.

My fav shows from childhood were TMNT, M.A.S.K, You can't do that on Television, Wienerville, Fraggle Rock, Voltron, and Thunder Cats. I watched a ton more but those were my favs. Then later came in Power Rangers and Pokemon which kind of gathered my love for J-Culture and Anime and i have never been the same :).

Nickelodeon and USA Cartoon Express are 2 things i could talk for hours and days on so be warned :).

  2. but it was a sad imitation of Voltron. Now THAT show was the shit!

Actually Power Rangers was created in 1975 in Japan called Himitsu Sentai Goranger created by the late Shotaro Ishinomori. Voltron on the other hand was created in 1981 based on the Anime's Golion and Dairugger XV. Funny enough they both were created in Japan by the same people Toei Animation & Bandai

    Wikipedia is my friend.

I agree though Voltron was my fav as a kid as well. I liked Power Rangers once it got here in the states but it never replaced Voltron.

  3. What are your guys favorite places to get MiniITX gear and info outside of www.mini-itx.com.

Looking for a board as the base of a wi-fi enabled linux stereo system if you want to recommend a board.

  4. You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.

A F'N Men. This should be given to anyone entering a teacher university and maybe we wouldn't raise generation after generation of left behind kids grasping for a straw of human existence only to get the boot of life right in the face.

  5. Woah. I was completely unaware the second issue was already going out. Sorry man. I'm thinking about writing something about the basics of PKI, with some words on getting GPG/PGP going in your email client to actually make some good use of it. Would such a thing be considered useful?

I would think it would be. Last time i heard someone explain PGP it was leo on CFH and he did kind of a hack poor job of doing it.

  6. Ok so having to give a donation to an organization to get free cookies is some sort of evil plot against humanity then right? That is some marketing genius figuring out a way to steal money from you giving you cookies that are probably poison.

I am doing nothing different that PBS. You give a donation i give a tote bag. See that is not spam or some evil plot it's called public broadcasting a business model that has been around as long as i can remember. Nothing is forced down your throat. You make a donation you get a service in return. Period.

I love how you have taken an idea i though was pretty neat and good for the community and made me out to be some sort of mass marketing ass hole. Yeah the original post was an advertisement with everything right up front so if your not into it you don't click though. Nothing sneaky nothing hidden something i did deliberately as to not make the message Spam. Sure it's an advertisement for a project i am doing but it's nothing more than that.

As i said if it's felt that it's spam or against Hak5 policy remove the thread. I won't care.

  7. Fine if you want to be a high and mighty over a service that i thought was a nice thing for people go for it. I ask a tiny 1 time donation just to get into the service and after that it's free. Technically it's free anyway. All the donation for is to make sure 1. people are serious about making stuff for the network and 2. because i am not able to run OrangeW with out donations. I set this whole thing up as a way to bring in a tiny bit of money for equipment and backend while at the same time offering a creative outlet. I seem to not see where this is bad in anyway shape or form.

Your pretty much sitting here bashing my idea just because A. i charge a donation to start up and B. because i posted it here on a public forum asking for creative people. I am not selling viagra or showing nude pics i am trying to inform people in creative circles about my service and that is all. Everything is all up front and nothing shady. I mention my service and flamed about it because it's some sort of spam. So i can talk about any and every project i am doing but as soon as that project is a service with a tiny donation cost it's spam. That just seems stupid.

Mods feel free to remove this entire thread if you feel it's spam.

  8. I don't believe in hackers.

I believe that there are people that enjoy finding out how things work in all subjects.

I believe that the term "hacker" has been hijacked by the general population of the world AND the tech field in different ways, with media both presenting "hackers" as superheroes and villians, and the computer community getting distracted by labels, subculture, and a general state of elitism.

I do not believe in hats. People are people, and they perform both good actions and bad actions. This isn't Star Wars, people.

I believe we should dump the term "hacker" altogether if we want to be taken seriously.

    Agreed

  9. The entire reason of adding that to the post was so if your not wanting to donate the minimal price to get on the network then you don't have to bother reading the entire rest of the stuff. Meaning i don't even want you to click through unless your serious in being interested in the idea. How that can be considered spam is beyond me and bad spam just makes no sense at all.

  10. The quicker people learn a hacker is separate from technology the better. A hacker at the core is a person who uses learned knowledge to gain more information about something for knowledge, change, or creation. People who splice plants are hackers. People who use genetics to change animals are hackers. They may never touch a network etc but they are still hackers.

Hacker is way more of a state of mind than anything. It's a thirst for knowledge in a subject with the idea of an action and nothing more. Everything is culture based and subject to opinion just like every other dumb label for people in the world :).

This is also why i am so quick to say i am a noob because in truth i am a noob at somethings. Doesn't mean i am dumb or any of the other crap that goes along with the label noob. I guess i just don't put much value on labels of people because people are not labels they are people.

  11. Yeah i have done my share of garbage digging in the past. I used to live by an Alltel building so lots of fun things in that spot mostly cables and the rare comp part. As for landfill diving i have a bit of that as well up until they turned out dump into a scrap yard and which point you had to pay for stuff going out mean no more free roaming treasure hunting. Last is the awesome almost art of what i dubbed street cleaning which is driving around urban areas looking for stuff on the curb waiting to leave. Out town had a trash day once every 6 months that was a gem of all kinds of neat crap.

My best hauls ever were a OS7 Macintosh computer, a brand new box of Cat5 cable, and a MASSIVE haul of Coax cable i spooled and sold to a friend who was wiring up there remodeled house. Funniest and coolest was a old box of Mad Magazines about 5 years worth i snagged from a curb. Light water damage but still readable.

  12. If you have ever wanted to make your audio, video, text, or artwork available via the awesome ability of podcasting with out all the hassle of feeds, websites, cost, and the like now is your chance. My little indy media network OrangeW has decided as part of our community action program that we would make a public broadcasting station part of our network. By that i mean user generated content available via the You Can Create feed going out to the world via iTunes. There will be much more to it into the future with the creation of our site like forum sections for each contributor but for now we take almost all the effort out of getting your stuff on the indy media wave. As we like to say "you create and will do the geeky part."

If your interested check out the link below.

BTW there is a 1 time donation cost to get into the network but after that the service is totally free. We only as for the donation because OrangeW is 100% corporate free meaning no ads etc in our content meaning we rely totally on the fans of our shows to keep us running through donations just like PBS :).

  13. Second, I’d just like to point out a few fun gems found within the community over the last few days.

    I think they're in a time warp...

It's just a jump to the left

And then a step to the right

With your hands on your hips

You bring your knees in tight

But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,

Let's do the Time Warp again!

Awesome movie. Up there with Howard The Duck on the weird scale but still very good.

  14. Honestly i don't have nearly the problem with windows as a lot of people do. Sure it has issues but as long as you stay patched and secure things seem to go alright. It's just common sense in not installing ever pile of code out there and leaving your system wide open with no protection that your going to have problems.

That being said i do prefer Mac on a daily basis just because that is what i like but in the end all 3 platforms have there merit and abilities. People who shun one for another are not using there tools right. A computer is a tool and you need to use the right tool for the job.
