  1. I think it has to do with the order that you install them to your OS. i have them installed as Windows XP ubuntu, bt4 in that order and they have worked fine for over a week now. i did not take the virtual route since im still pretty new to it. and would rather not mess with it atm.

understandable.... well there are allot that can be done with dual and tripple booting and everyone started somewhere.... just keep in mind what u want to use BT4 for and do some research (seriously) :)

  2. It all depends on what you want to accomplish, and if your machine can handle running Multiple VMs.

I would probably run a copy of BT4 in a VM if I had a wireless card that would work with it (which I do, but since the internal card works fine, I just dual boot, since I don't use BT4 all that often.)

your right about that..... i dont use BT4 often either that y i run it as a usb drive.... i wanted a quick way to get rid of it when im done doing stuff and leave no traces back to me :)

  3. Posting after you first wake up = bad..

hmmm... watever works for u then fine..... Virtual is a better way to go anyway but i guess everyone has different reasons and some would wanna dual an triple boot.... i have done it before an i did'nt think it made sense that i had to restart every-time i wanna use another OS..... i was just trying to help an i guess it was'nt needed

  4. I'm trying to triple boot my laptop with windows xp sp3, ubuntu 9.10, backtrack 4 final. windows was originally on the laptop. i first installed Ubuntu with out any problems. until i installed backtrack 4. then the ubuntu file could not be found when at boot menu. so i uninstalled and deleted the partition and recreated it and reinstalled ubuntu. it booted up a couple times fine, but now it just has a _ blinking on the top left corner of the screen. i know this does this when windows is loading though I'm still pretty new with Linux. not sure what i should do since it has been blinking like that for a good 10 minutes now. windows and backtrack are still working fine. Should i try to reinstall it again or does anyone have any idea?

Ubuntu and Backtrack dont go well together when dual booting or watever.... best thing to do is create a persistent usb drive for BT4 only an u can boot from the usb and run it with no problem.... i had the same problem u had so now im running BT4 from usb... persistent changes means u can save ur changes on ur usb drive just as a normal hard-drive..... and big file u may need can be saved on ur hard-drive.... here is how i did it (my usb drive is 4 GB) >>>> http://forums.remote-exploit.org/bt4beta-h...-4-changes.html

also u can just do virtualization and run ur other OS in VirtualBox so instead of restarting to use another OS u can just load it up in ur main OS.... mine is Ubuntu and everything else is Virtual "Food For Taught"

  5. So here is my question plain and simple. On my laptop should I load up BT4 and Ubuntu in VB along with an XP bitch, and make them all fully network capable with their own static IP and everything (which I hear you can do in VirtualBox). Or do I dual boot Ubuntu / W7 and put BT4 on an SD card and put a virtual XP Bitch box within Ubuntu / BT4 (Which would require a persistant install? Im basically looking to do some middler stuff with my jasager fonera (pineapple), and some metasploit.

hmmm.. well on my laptop which is about 8 years old (panasonic toughbook CF-29) ..... i have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it and everything else is Sun VirtualBox with USB support... i can run Ubuntu safely with about 3 different Virtual systems running at the same time..... i think u should make ur favorite OS ur main and run everything else in VirtualBox... 6. If you have standard cooling, such as a simple CPU fan I wouldn't really recommend OCing at all, or that much if you do it.

You don't want to stress the CPU and fry it, especially thaty ou don't have the thermal paste.

You can buy some from NewEgg for probably around $10.

well i will have to upgrade my motherboard... its an Asus board but its own by HP so they blocked everything. i mananged to overclock my CPU at 8% and it runs great @ 61*C full trottle.... my onboard video is overclocked 30% also... my motherboard temp never exceeds 41*C so i guess ill keep these settings for now

  7. It's working correctly. Modern CPUs are made to underclock themselves when they aren't under load. It saves power and wear and tear on the CPU.

If you didn't add any thermal paste to the heat sink, you are probably going to fry the CPU, since it won't be able to conduct heat away from the CPU very efficiently.

yea i really need to get some terminal paste.... my uncle has some but its just for him to find it :( ... but thanks for they reply... guess i cant go any higher until i get it :(

  8. hi all.... i was wondering does anyone know about overclocking cpu's? and if so..... how much can i overclock my Hp Pavilion a1730n? i currently have a Atlon 64 X2 5000+ prosessor overclocked to 4000Mhz+ but for some reason it only goes that high if needed to.... i benchmark over and over and raised the Clockgen higher and higher but i still cant get it to past 2612.2MHZ.... a few times i open up Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS4 at the same time and it jumped up to 4818.2MHZ for a quick second then back down.... i dont want to raise it any higher because i have no cpu seal but i did mod a different fan into my computer (i will have to shrink my pics to upload them here) and it idles at:

    CPU: 41*C

    CPU Core #1: 36*C

    CPU Core #2: 35*C

    Motherboard: 40*C

    Harddrive 1(SATA drive 320GB): 41*C

    Harddrive 2 (IDE drive 150GB): 37*C

I also modded 2 fans to the side of my computer panel that blows air directly on the Motherboard... Pics soon

  9. yea i got 2 like that today from "Dersterman" and i blocked him plus included the reason y>> "i am running Ubuntu and i know i do not have any viruses"... that was earlier today about 9am and i just went back to his page and he is Banned.... one down so i think when u guys get mail like that u should block them and include the reason y B)

  10. My model don't have bluetooth (wish it did) and everything works great without any problems (except touch-screen calibration in Ubuntu). I was just wondering if i could upgrade the processor to a dual-core or higher and if not is there an upgraded motherboard for this model which support faster processors

  11. Im using VMware workstation 6.5.3. Im gonna trying doing what you did and do a manual install instead of just downloading the pre built image.

i run all my other OS in Sun VirtualBox and it runs great with no problems and i have usb support. i have seen a few websites with other people using VMware including this post and i was wondering whats the difference between VMware and Sun VirtualBox?

  12. Hello all, i am running Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop and also run Windows XP in Sun VirtualBox. I can boot Backtrack if i mount as ISO and run as Live CD. What i wanna do is be able to is install Backtrack into a Virtual-Harddisk so i can also run it in my VirtualBox. I have been to several different websites and tried their methods but the dont work.
