  1. A split tunnel will give you no more security while browsing (this was the goal of the poster).

The VPN compromise is this, all your traffic will route someplace trusted and completely encrypted... however ALL your traffic will route someplace trusted and completely encrypted. There is no alternative to this, this is how VPNs work by design.

Use TOR or proxy servers for anonymous browsing, don't confuse anonymous with secure.

Ahh, missed that part. If it's security he wants TOR isn't a good alternative either. VPN is the way to go, he'll just have to deal with the slow down. On my connection I've not notice that bad of a bandwidth hit, I wouldn't game over it though.

  2. hope your not looking for any monitor mode functions, as the only usb dongle based wifi card that works with that is the cace airpcap card (uber expensive)

What the hell are you talking about??!!! He's asking about linux, not windows.

    http://backtrack.offensive-security.com/in...hp/HCL:Wireless

Is a list of working wifi cards with linux. See that big assed list of usb devices? Any of those will work with linux. Maybe not all will do moonitor mode, but all the alpha's will. Just click on one to see the pro's and con's of each adapter. I'd go with an Alpha.

  3. What's rainbow tables got to do with this topic? Konboot doesn't need any. Anyway,To answer your question I don't know. I think you're correct. If there is such a set and it would need to be a set (i don't think you could compute a single table with that amount), it sure as heck isn't available on the net. A full table if it does exist would take the capacity of several TBs of data, and take more than several lifetimes to produce probably.

    Try several petabytes.

  4. I have been reading about setting up OPEN VPN on UBUNTU 8.10 so that I could login to my VPN from my windows PC when I am away from home.

I have come to find out that the upload speed will be affected ultimately slowing my Internet connection at home as the VPN traffic will upload all the traffic to my PC when I login. So is there any better suggestions or alternatives to doing this ?

All I am trying to achieve is secure browsing when I am away from home. Let me know if you HAK5ers use such a connection.

Set it up as a split tunnel. That way all your internet traffic will go out your normal network connection and only your local network traffic will go over the tunnel.

  5. Sure.

The actual filenames are these after each link, exactly as you can read them.

These files are also exactly ~40mb each.

Yea, have you tried opening one in a text editor?

Oh wait. You're using the wrong program with these tables. They are for cowpatty.

  6. Sorry, wrong way round, you can do an APless attack, not a clientless one with the new version.

Yea, that sounds about right. You pose as the correct AP and the client sends their part of the handshake(which fails). That's all you need now with the new cowpatty. Works great for all those laptops that automagically connect to "their" AP.

  7. I have a - maybe - dumb question.

After downloading all this stuff, I get a .lzma. Yeah, and after about 6 hours, here's the .tar. Way too many hours after, here comes the unpacked tables, all with no extention. Now, neither Cain nor rcracki seem to recognize these files as rainbow tables... what am I doing wrong?

I'd need to go dig mine out. They're on a hard drive in my closet somewhere. Could you show us an example of what the file names are?

  8. The Neo FreeRunner is the most hackable as its the most open. It will work on the network.

Have you ever seen one in real life?? I know the guy that's porting a lot of the wireless tools in backtrack to it, but his was broken the last time I saw him. I don't know how well the company is going, they've canceled their second gen phone already.

  9. Yes, look at the latest version of CoWPAtty from Josh Wright, that works without any clients being connected

Every version of cowpatty has been from Josh Wright. So show me where is says you can do a clientless wpa hack.

  10. That's almost exactly what I built. Here's the page I used for reference. I'm using a panel mount N connector for my base. Using a piece of aluminum as the reflector, and a gladware container for the enclosure. You can use any plastic sealable container as long as it's microwave safe. When it says "microwave safe" the plastic itself isn't going to melt, which means microwaves pass through.

  11. OK How about just a workable solution to make a car GPS waterproof and vibration proof.

That would be a good starting point. What kind of materials could be used to separate the GPS from all the bumps and buzzing that comes from a moving motorcycle?

Velcro big stuff kinda eliminate that high pitch buzzing.

Rubber as in o rings or rubber bands .

Is there like a standard cheap clear box that could be used to protect a GPS from the rain. I did use a lunch bag with some old scotch tape in a pinch on my last trip from Syracuse through NYC to Islip LI. The GPS still works though I only encountered light rain.

I'm really looking for something that will work with a standard motorcycle like my GZ250 or XS 360. On these bikes the GPS has to face the full force of the wind and all the vibrations of a small displacement motorcycle.

You know I'm thinking about D-man The Easy Rider Kitchen.

Off topic Kitchen and Morse on an OCC Captain America. That would be cool. If your ever in New York check out the OCC.

On a side note, I drove past OCC's new building a week or so ago. Was coming back from our office in Ludlow Mass. I didn't stop though, was late getting out of the office and didn't get home until after midnight. 10 hour drives suck.

  12. Well, you could use it to fry WiFi leechers. Here's a couple of MegaWatts for your leeching @%$, lol.

I've always wanted to try using a microwave with the door removed. Just to see what it would do. Couldn't leave it on for very long, but it most likely wouldn't need to be. I have too many neighbors now to feel safe trying.

  13. I just read a story on Torrent Freak saying a hacker named "N" had wrote a piece of software that cracks WiFi's to give the people that are accused of downloading illegal stuff plausible deniability. I know you can crack WiFi keys with Backtrack. Everyone and their brother, for the most part, has done it. But a system that does it its self. That's crazy.

Does anyone know if this is real or just a hoax?

  14. This stuff is cool but can get a bit pricey came up to almost $230 when i got the parts together but it is def an option i am considering

Short of a Linksys, D-Stink, or Netgear box, these are the cheap for dedicated firewall devices.

  15. The way it looks, I'm not getting anything off of it. Gonna put it back in a freezer overnight and then say screw it after that. I guess everything on there I got from torrents really or cds that I ripped. The CDs are right next to me and I think my mp3s are backed up on my hackintosh. As for the torrents better hit up TPB before it gets shut down. Oh well.

If it's clicking, putting it in the freezer really isn't going to help. The freezer trick is for worn out bearings.

  16. Thanks, so far it seems ok. You're right though...the keyboard doesnt feel too solid.

I'm hoping there will be an app or hack to get shell access eventually, maybe once the SDK goes public.

It was quite brilliant how easily the phone synced with my google account. Everything, my gmail, calandar, and contacts were all imported.

I've also noticed that it automatically updates my contacts on the phone, when I update them through a browser.

But so far I'm very satisfied with it, I see a lot of potential.

My windows mobile phone does the same thing. HTC Kaiser, one of the more "hackable" phones out there. Running windows mobile 6.5 on it at the moment. Every now and then I give Android (look a shell) a shot, but still not enough driver support, though it can make calls.

  17. Ugg, I hate my 90 gb bandwidth cap, and not knowing how much bandwidth I have used :( Maybe some one could burn some DVD's and we can send them around :)

I'd say just drive over to Renderman's place, but Alberta and Ontario are pretty far apart. What kind of crap isp doesn't give the users the ability to see how much they've used?

Come down to defcon, I'm sure there will be a few people there with them.

  18. Brute force, you can try one of the rainbow tables if the AP has a SSID that is one of the tables.

Uhh, no. You can't crack a wpa password with no clients connected. You need at least the first two parts of the four way handshake. Wep with no clients, no problem.
