  1. +1 for lenovo. I don't own one, but I have many friends, and friends of friends who do, and I hear nothing but good things :). Great build quality, from what I've heard.

One of my friends also has a Toshiba Satellite.. or something like that. He got this awesome deal, where after 6 months or so, he got £100 back from them, and thats on top of an initial price cut. So he got a £500 laptop, for little over £350. Its a little slow, but I blame Vista Business for that, as I'm sure XP or any Linux distro would fly. Core 2 Duo, @ ~2Ghz. 3 or 4GB RAM. Looks nice too. The whole back-end is a big hinge, a little like a macbook, with all the ports and stuff on either side of the laptop.

  2. Wow digip, thank you. Cant believe I missed that mininova link. Getting speeds of around 200kb/s just now, which is really fast for me.

    Thank you :)

    Feel kinda stupid now..

EDIT: I AM stupid. Not only could I not find a simple torrent myself, but I didnt gauge my CPU architecture correctly. i686 optimisation here i come. Woop.

  3. Been trying to download the torrent file from arch's website, but been having problems.

Is their ftp server down or something?

Also tried torrents of the newest "x86 core" version from other torrent sites, but there are next to none seeders.. Well, none.

Can someone upload a x86 core torrent here for me? Any seeders?

    Cheers,

  4. Assassins Creed 2

    Modern Warfare 2

Maybe Forza Motorsport 3. I love the online aspect in Forza 2.

And definately Prototype. Thought I can see this one being totally overhyped, and quite disappointing, but fingers crossed.

  5. @Hex

I'll keep that in mind mate :). And nice idea with the pencil and smudge. I use a new layer, and the gaussian blur filter far too often.

Sorry man, haven't heard about GIMP3 beta. Didnt even know they released one. Though i'll be on the lookout for it now :P. Did you notice any major changes?

  6. Your whites are too blown out. You have lost all of the detail in the highlights. This causes the large white space on the left to become too dominant. You want the eye to rest on the text not empty white space. This is then compounded by the cropping where there is a small dark space next to that white space creates visual tension giving the white space additional weight.

Wow, that does actually make sense. I was kinda wanting the whites to pop out at you, asthough the code was ripping out of the screen. But I understand what your saying about this drawing focus away from the text.

I took your image and quickly cropped it and moved the text up to give you an idea of how I would change it. I can't add detail back to the whites however. Ignore the black box around the text, like I said I did this quickly.

Nice man. I like this actually. Kind of inspires me to make a banner of out this.. *strokes beardless beard area*

Other than that, it looks pretty good. Keep doing what you are doing.

    Thanks man :)

@Hex: Haha, thanks man. And Im not too sure about that. Its not hard, once you find out the simple steps for abstract-y GIMP-age, it's really quite (basically, i took the stuff i learnt from GIMP tutorials online and changed it up a bit *blushes*). I think your stuff in the Backgrounds section out does mine. The SF2 concept is pure genius :)

  7. Im actually going to throw you a bone here mate.

Im with BT, and recently, I read that cutting the "Bell Wire" increased speeds. So I did it.. If speeds have increased, theyre barely noticable. 'pparently, the bell wire has no purpose, and just caused some interference, so cutting it was meant to help.

But now Im taking back the bone, because your from Slovenia.. And something tells me, im not sure what, that you dont actually use BT.

  8. Haha nice man :). Aaah, Simple is always best. Means you have to really think about everything your doing. I have this problem where I do way too much, and it just looks really busy and crap. And then I mess up, and cover it up with more stuff.

I go mental with the amount of layers I use too. Sheer insanity :P.

  9. How odd..

Pretty sure this beats Hex's double sticky guey.. whatever. Not even sure what to call this. Like a.. Double-accountity guey lovely double-or-not-so-double post..

    ..Or something.

  10. @Hex

Wow, thanks :). Aw, awesome. Ehm, not too long to be honest. It took me a while to realise how to get it the way I wanted, but doing it didnt take long :). Yeah, I love GIMP myself. Love the custom paintbrushes and plugins :).

Oooh, I'll check your stuff out soon :).

    EDIT:

Ooh, man, theyre awesome! Haha, love the street fighter II with Darren, Snubs and Mubix :P. And the evil server ones are damn cool. Might nab them for my desktop at some point :D

    @Wire

Haha, thanks man :). If only :P

  11. Sparda is right mate. Don't want some guy fuming, calling you "hacker" and stuff. Won't go down well with colleagues (how the heck do you spell that word?!) and most certainly won't go down well with your boss.

  12. Assassins Creed 2. If they can fix the horrible repetitiveness of AC1, and add some pretty sweet new shizz, it can be awesome. I was so frustrated with the first, because it's such a great concept.

  13. Thanks for the reply.

Awesome suggestion. That seems a much simpler way, thanks.

So I'd be able to access the samba share from my Windows boxes? Thatd be awesome.

Im expecting it to take a while to encode. I was hoping to simply queue up some encoding jobs and leave it running overnight. Im expecting the computer to be around 1.4Ghz single core. Maybe better, maybe worse...

I like the idea of a simple command line debian install, as ive been interested in managing a server remotely for a while, and I know that if I give it a nice GUI with Xubuntu, il be tempted to just hook up a monitor and use graphics-based programs to set her up :)

    Thanks.

    Any other suggestions?

  14. Ive purchased a little Creative Zen, which is great for video playback and general music making. Ive been ripping DVDs and encoding them for the Zen and its great, but I have an idea to make it easier.

For a while, Ive been close to receiving an old computer from a friend. Its so old, that hes not sure of the spec, because it cant stay on long enough to check without BSODing, or just crashing. The latest Hak5 episode about NetCat gave me an idea:

I was thinking that I could turn this old computer into a little server of sorts. Using NetCat, I could bind a video encoder to a port, and leave it on all the time. Then, I could remotely encode videos, without it starving the resources of my current computer. Maybe the videos can be stored on the old computer itself - a problem i havent yet worked out.

This is only one idea, and quite a while away from implementation, so does anyone have a better solution? As low-cost as possible, please. Student budget :(. Im a bit of a noob when it comes to Linux, only dabbling in some LiveCD loveliness, but im more than happy to get my hands dirty. :)

    Thanks

  15. Just tried fdisk -l. It didnt work. Picked up my other USB drives, and using trial and error, I found that it didnt pick up the Zen.

However, USBView and PupScan both pick up the Zen.

    Using Puppy 4.2 btw.

Thanks, and again sorry for the slow reply. Becoming a bit of a habit..

  16. Sorry for double post.

I tried to install this, but could boot to my USB drive on my home PC. The PC is normally a bit of a tough one for booting to USB - even after disabling the HD in the BIOS, it fails to detect the OS on the USB, and magically boots to vista :(. I even booted into Puppy Linux to make the USB partition bootable - still nothing.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

  17. almost everything has a removal tool (only the cmdo payload does not) the updated version im working on now will fix that. but certainly anytime you boot into a PE a couple wrong clicks, or commands can break the local os.

the new keyboard payloads have a built-in removal tool

Thanks for such a speedy reply. Great project.

    :)
