i would C++ because that is the best langauge for a project for both linux and windows also look at the GTK+ for linux to windows coding

Python isn't "just scripting".
python isn't just scripting but the GUI programing part is a very had part of the language so it is best used by scripters

i would love boxee but i think i am going with myth tv or linux MCE which ever one supports my tv tuner cards thanks guys

I would recommend Gentoo for a desktop OS
and for a server OS i would recommend centOS
those are two very good and powerful linux distros

I want to build one i have the hardware, but for the software i want to know a couple of things
-Boxee how stable is it in linux?
-Would it be over kill to do 2 or 3 tv tuners?
-What backend should i choose? (I.E. Linux, Windows, Mac OSX)
-What GPU should i get to do HDMI to a 1080PI TV
Anything else i need to know to build one of these boxes
