1. And let's not forget the best thing of th whole show, Harrison.

Indeed. If Harrison and Mubix could do a segment together, it would rock the core foundations of hak5 forever.

  2. The only thing that i really walked away from with this show is that Darren sucks at xbox. Outside of that it was a nice hangout show that had a smattering of tech discussion added to it.

This. Couldn't care less about Darren and Matt debating the pros and cons of vmware and virtual box.

However, the new formats that you guys use for the promos and advertisements were enjoyable for once. Instead of skipping through these things like usual, I was entertained for once and watched the whole thing, it's a lot funner than the boring video promo with darren or matt making a sales pitch in the background.

Sweet. Darren has apparently laid off the crack this week? Good to read. Segments, for the most part, kinda suck when the presenter or host is talking a so fast you literally can't understand what he's saying or doing.

Can't wait to see it tonight.

  3. I've watched every episode since season 1 and I still think this show is one of the best tech iptv shows on the entire web. It just seems like Matt has this "cranky" geek attitude to him that gets a bit old sometimes, but he compensates for it with awesome tech segments.

If you guys want Wess back, it ain't gonna happen, he's repeatedly said that he has no desire to appear on the show. Unpersons is a great podcast though, so def check that out.

  4. LOL!!!! Sorry Darren. I was typing a little too fast for my own good and it doesn't help that my manager's name is Derrick. LOL. Keep up the great work "Darren". I've been following you guys for years and I must say you guys have done a great job keeping us interested/involved/and educated. I'll be waiting to see whats next.

  5. On a day to day use. I don't see why anyone would convert a physical server to a virtual server and really don't get the whole VM thing on a day to day usage. It makes sense if you want to test out the latest linux package, or text the latest windows environment, BUT in a real world scenario why would you want to have a VM? I mean other then not having to dual boot what are the benefits? Using the same machine uses more resources and processing power then if you were to have physical machines dedicated for a specific purpose.

Can someone help a newb out and explain why to do a VM? Also, while on the subject I know somewhere on here, I believe they mentioned it in one of the shows, was a topic on how to build a good network/server, but can't seem to find the topic.

Thank you in advance..and be gentle on the newb. lol

Matt already answered those questions in previous episodes. He even took Paul and the cameras down to his work place and explained the importance of virtualized servers in the work environment. Check out these episodes.

If you still have questions about virtualization, email matt at matt@hak5.org

  6. Anyway thanks for the feedback, good and bad, about 520. Hope you liked 521, and I'm sure you'll love 522.

Hey man, you've generally hit enough home runs, hell, more than enough home runs with hak5 to have created a loyal and honest fan base. But you just got done creating excellent 5* eps with building servers, covering network tap analyzers, extracting executables from packet captures, doing awesome things with net cat, among other things. And then you kind of flat lined with encrypting hard drives. Consistency is key, and you created a pattern of awesome eps. None the less, we keep watching each and every ep and are constantly sending feedback via the forums and email, so you must be doing something right.

  7. Yeah, I was wondering this too, what did that guy say? Also, twas an interesting episode, Mubix' comment made me laugh a little TOO hard...

  8. I just downloaded this episode, will be watching tonight. It actually looks like a really informative, educational, yet entertaining and thought provoking episode. =D

  9. One thing Truecrypt is not bullet proof. I have taken encrypted drives and mounted them in another system and used an open source forensic tool to decrypt them. I had to do this for a research paper my Forensics class. Although it sounds easy the software it self is not user friendly.

In any case if anyone has physical access to your Portable (Notebook) they own your information.

Maybe you can toss an email to feedback@hak5.org and show them how it's done? That would be an interesting episode to say the least. Who wouldn't be interested in the different ways of decrypting someones data, and then show them how to secure it even more? Just an idea.

  10. This episode was alright, not very good but not bad. I mean, the entire process of encrypting your whole hard drive is boring as hell, why would someone want to watch a 30 minute video of someone doing it? Despite the fact that TC is great, this is one of those things that any knowledgeable computer guru learned about a long freaking time ago. And whole drive encryption is a weak method of protecting your data, though I suppose its only meant to keep noobs from getting into your stuff.

Definitely one of the most noob friendly episodes of the past 2 seasons.

  11. I love the show, maybe I'm just being a fanboy, and I've only been doing the technolust thing for about 3-4 years now; but a lot of the stuff that Darren, Matt and his guest hosts have shown are new things to me. Unfortunatey, I don't have a lot of time in the world to experiment, so its fun to watch. like, i really wanna get down and dirty with net cat, and do the internet redirection, but i just don't have time anymore. Which sucks.

But at the same token, the simple stuff is always nice too. Just don't fill every show with remedial bullshit.

  12. This was one of the best episodes of the season. And maybe I'm just being a skitzo, but did Darren call people an idiot for not knowing the difference between a NAS and SAN?

  13. Good show guys! I'll have to check out the net cat stuff soon, I've been knee deep in nmap evers ince I got Fyodors book back in December; that program is absolutely amazing. I had to do a double take on Matts segment because it was so interesting, yet so complicated? I've never had to deal with virtualization in a corporate environment; ya, maybe I'm just slow, haha.

Not attacking Matt, but I guess he was having a bad day on the day of the shoot? He seemed moody.

And I hope you guys follow up on the career advice segment. I'm at a cross roads in my life, trying to figure out which realm of the IT World I want to persue, and "dominate". =P Mubix' video was awesome, but I'd like to hear more in depth about Darren and Matts career in the IT World. And any advice that they have would be awesome.

  14. This was an excellent episode, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I'm not a huge console gamer, so I doubt i'll ever be experimenting with the Wii, but it's pretty interesting to know about the various hacks and mods that are out there for it. Matts segment was excellent, and I can't wait to the multi-part series that he'll be following up on about virtualization in the corporate environment. I'm definitely a huge virtualization fan, as are a lot of geeks, so all I have to say is.. about damn time.

And VM Server backups are a great idea!

  15. i'm gonna do some research into this interceptor tool. i just gotta setup some sort of real-world lab to make it more interesting.i must say, this is one of better episodes of the past 3 seasons. it had social engineering, network security, penetration testing, wireless security auditing, firmware hacking, and an interview with a hardcore security guru which is always awesome.

    this ep = EPIC win!

  16. I thought the concept was brilliant. Darren socials engineers Shannon into plugging his monkey into the network, giving him access to their network, allowing him to have some fun.

The interview with Robin Wood was pretty interesting. I miss Matt's segments!

17. I thought Snubs was acting a bit immature near the end of the episode, but I'm sure I'm the only one that feels that way.

I liked this episode a lot, hardware hacking has never been my thing, but it was informative and entertaining. The VOIP segment was really cool, hell it was the best part of the episode. I didn't know you could setup VOIP solutions like that a. saving time, b. saving money. Which is awesome.

I really wish the interview with Ron Gula was longer, because I love the Nessus application. Maybe you guys can cover Nessus Vulnerability scanning in one of the episodes? That'd be awesome.
