  1. Darren dude, this is not a serious test its more like a adversment for Acer.

Sorry this hole test posting is a bit disappointing.

So please next time let the testing to persons that know how.

Just face it man your may be good in a lot of thinks bud comeing up with hardware testing reports is just not your thing.

    Gerard

    I chuckled IRL,

But really nice review. Really answered a lot of questions for me about the little gem. I've been looking for something BT3 supported that's small enough but has a step up on the eeepc's annoying keyboard.

    Thanks, Darren

  2. ISP supposedly log who gets which IP address. How reliable can these logs be when ISP's have tens of thousands of customers? In theory computers don't make mistakes, in practice they fucking do.

    Agree.

Most home users will have a Dynamic IP, the mere fact that your IP can change from one second to another is a good starting point in a legal defence.

Having said that, I'd imagine that some if not most ISPs will record which line has which IP at which time, meaning they could see for example:

From 1.30AM - 2.30AM on 1/1/07 IP '1.1.1.1' was downloading from 'illigitimate' sources.

    & from 1AM - 3AM on 1/1/07 IP '1.1.1.1' was leased to <you>.

I guess it depends on what they've got on you in terms of evidece, for which I doubt they'd reveal out-of-court.

  3. Isn't it far more likely that procureweb.ac.uk, an independent 3rd party, is running on a MS server, and is merely allowing apple to use a sub-domain to hock its gaudy wallet killers?

Possible, however the web at procureweb.ac.uk reports 'Does not allow its directory to be listed' so, I'd imagine it's a virtual domain hosted by apple for searching up IPs based on Universities (Its not an actual Uni website).

So the apple Uni lookup IP service is running on MS servers.

  4. Hi all,

I am looking for a software firewall that is compatible with Windows Vista.

My only requirements are that the firewall should be able to monitor applications internet access (In terms of allow/block/query) and it should not be a 'full feature' package (Should be standalone - not include AV/A-Spyware).

Ideally the firewall will have low system resource useage.

I have looked around google, with few reliable results. I'm looking for personal experiences and recommendations :)

Comments or queries are welcome, of course.

    Thanks

  5. Hi all, thanks for reading this topic.

I'm looking for a quick to deploy portable HTTP server that can be stored on a flash drive and does not require any install. I.e. the portable part.

I'm aware of the fact that google would yield some results, but I'm looking for personal choices and recommendations to get the best software avaliable for my situation.

The use of the application would be to allow for testing of firewall systems and network traffic routing without the need to install the software on each PC I test on.

Any comments, queries or of course solutions are most welcomed.

    Thanks

  6. Bandwidth limitations are in place for a number of reasons:

You get what you pay for (No over-use)

The company can regulate what they use and what customers use

Bandwidth costs money, so the more you use, the more you pay

  7. I've had the same problem when trying to share a 3G connection between a network via Ad-hoc wireless sharing. Check to ensure the internet host (ad-hoc host) is set to share the interent with the correct network component.

Go to Network connections and right click -> Properties on the network component recieving the net connection -on the MCE (In this case my T-mobile 3G modem).

Go to the sharing tab and you should have a setup like this:

    netow2.png

Make sure that the correct component is getting access to the net.

  8. Ubuntu is one of the more popular distributions of the Linux kernel, it's official installation guide can be found here.

However, as Sparda mentioned the problem may be a faulty component, probably a CD/DVD drive.
