tcpdump not capturing channel and frequency

I'm sniffing using:

tcpdump -i wlan0 -e

I'm not receiving any information about what channel or frequency is used. Is this normal for these nics? I've tried to change the channel using ifconfig but to no change. On my laptop i get information like: "6.0 Mb/s 5180 MHz 11a".
