  1. ok, I f this post is in the wrong spot my bad, don't delet it just move it if that's possible.

Last night on the live show things got real heated over the usb hack thing, I was like what the hell is this and why is it causing so many problems. So I researched it more on hack 5 and watched the episode again and I ain't gone lie, I want one. Not to mess over anyone just to have it,  just a new toy to play with. every time a new software or site is mentioned on the show I snatch me a copy burn it and put it in my lil cd case. Most of the programs I have no clue on how to use them but just like a kid who wants to play drums, he doesn't wanna learn how to read music or hear about measures and stuff, he wants to sit behind the drums and bang away. as time goes by he realize if I want to get any good I need to learn some basics about music before I can play these drums on a professional level. that's the attitude most noobs have.

Let me play with a toy or two, I do want to learn but I also want and need some instant gratification to keep me interested. and what is that instant gratification? it's what you all refer to as script kiddied stuff, Cain and Able, meta sploits, The usb Hak thing, and other easy  thing we can do now with little no how. Yes we are going to use then and in our own mind pretend we are hackers to impress our friends. What's wrong with that? For most noobs all it's going to do is peak their interest more, they are going to dig deeper and research more, "HEY THIS IS COOL, BUT I WISH IT DID THIS, I WONDER WHAT LANGUAGE THIS WAS WRITTEN IN? I WONDER IF i COULD CHANGE IT" Now you have a noob researching how to program so he can improve his new toy.

to the guy saying HAK5 was wrong for sharing this tool I think that goes against the whole hacker mind set "INFORMATION SHOULD BE FREE TO ANYONE NOT A SELECT FEW"  and another guy made a good comment as well without any Evil there could be no Good.

If there weren't any cracker going around breaking into machines and making viruses. there would be no need for system admins, and no need to upgrade and improve software and operating systems. what we currently have is safe and working well. Technology would halt if the bad guys stopped doing what they do.

By hAK5 reveling the USB hack to the public what that did was make every system administrator say oh fuck, hop out of there bed and go research on how to secure their network from this new threat. I don't know if the usb thing still works but I guarantee you in a few moths that shit will be patched up. and the game goes on.  They block that door we kick down another it's a big intellectual game that's being played. both sides need each other to stimulate and inspire new ideals and concepts

now on to the set design and budget. It's there money and if they wanna go out and buy mink bean bags and real palm tress for the set who cares If I had a show I would want it to look nice as well. I have been doing this show for three seasons and I'm still sitting on a couch with a bed sheet full of nut stains for a backdrop, something ain't right. They are not making a lot of money doing this show so if they wanna fix up the set to make them feel a progress from season one that's cool. and I feel it helps them. When you have better equipment and you setup looks nice you are going to work better, you feel like I am really doing something productive here.

Dareen Wess Paul and chris  you are doing a good job, i look foward to watching season 4 and learning alot by hanging out with you guy in the IRC and forums. Like I said google is good but with all the bull shit out there it's hard to find good sites that you can trust to deliver good content

  2. Don't get me wrong the show is still good, but it doesn't even deserve to sit on the same shelf as season 1.

That's a LITTLE harsh, somewhat accurate, but still a little harsh.  Bring back the drunk dark gray hatterish segments...  Drunken buffer overflow FTFW.

I do speak a lil to blunt but like you said my statement was accurate. and that's not putting down the show, it is just giving season 1 the probs it deserve.

I mean the microshaft  and noob commercials was funny as hell, I don't think there is another show like HAK5 out there. the only other hacker related site or group i frequent is 2600, it's hard to find the magazine in small stores but if you do happen to find a copy it is some good reading.

Hey I think that is a good ideal for HAK5 start a lil quarterly mini mag and in each issue include a CD or DVD with useful programs and tutorials on good hacks and mods. I could even do the mag layout for them.

  3. I think I am going to have to carry around a flask of whiskey and take a few hits before all my monthly segments.  I'm more fun when I'm under the influence.

Agreed, what happened to all the drunk bloopers?  The show was bit more black hat in the early days, I miss that too.

I'm donating the $10 for the stickers, they will go nicely with my eee.

    [GV, MN]

I don't wanna call it black hat cause that would start a whole debate on the good hacker bad hacker thang. but I do know what you mean. after I wrote that post I read Screen Savers is what inspired them to start but out the gate they were 10X better than that show, Screen Savers should cater they show to fit what HAK5 did in their first season. I use to watch that show when it firsh came on but can't tell you the last time I watched it. do it still come on?

  4. what are you running in your VM player? I was running ubuntu but had to uninstall everything to reinstall do to a slight noob issues but I am reinstalling now I l like the look and feel of ubuntu but am curious of other Linux distros and users opinions

  5. I just finish watching all of Hak.5 shows and I hate to say it but the show got worse with each season, What happen? Season 1 was raw and unregulated and it appealed to alot of viewers like me. But as I was watching Season three the show felt like I was watching that show that use to come on tech TV called screen savers.

When I first discovered HAK.5 I watched each episode from show 1 on thru until my eyes started to burn and I could go on no more, In season 3 I found my self falling asleep from boredom and trying to fast forward through shows looking for good topics.

Don't get me wrong the show is still good, but it doesn't even deserve to sit on the same shelf as season 1.  I know you have to do what you have to do to pay the bills and stuff, and this sometimes means catering to your sponsors and Sacrifice your own creativity.

I think if you all had more donations and support from your viewers we can get the show back to how it was and should be.

I don't have much but I will start it off with a small donation of $5, who else is willing to give a lil back to a show that we all say we love that has givin us so much?

P.S. I am donating $5 bucks but I still want my got damm Hak.5 Stickers lol

    Who's Next??

  6. more commercials, the one with the cooked noobs was, real good and you can't go wrong with microshaft bits

Then I'm only on 2X10 I have no ideal how season 3 is.

Now I have to go check out pure pwange

Damm when will I have time for work??? Someone needs to hak the solar system, I need at least 28 hour days

  7. Thanks, i will head on over to the sites and check them out, I was on the HAK5 IRC today and I mentioned to the crew that i want to do a dual boot but everyone said it was hella hard for a noob to partition in Linux. I want Linux bad but i don't really like the live CD since when i am running it I can you my CD drive. I can't go straight Linux since I do photography and Graphics and I need to be able to use Adobe Suite 3 Gimp is good but PS CS3 is the shit. So I really really really want to do a dual boot.

Question I know very little about VMs, If I load Linux on a VM will I be able to save files to my main hard drive or will I be forced to save and back up files on a USB stick?

  8. I'm getting real pissed. I want to move to Linux but it is hard as hell, I can't even get it to recognize my wireless card. I'm not a windows expert or anything but I know my way around pretty good, trying to navigate around in Linux is hard as hell, I'm reading books and forums but it's still hella hard. I think I would learn better just by using it as my primary OS cause that's how I learned windows. I read a few books and picked up a few tips here and there but for the most part i learned by just using it. And with Linux I can't even load up all my devices to use it as my OS. I feel like a freakin retard

I had problems like this with my dell inspiron 1300. I had to use ndiswrapper (google it)to overcome it and does get kinda indepth working through this, however with Linux 2.6.17 kernel the driver for broadcom 43... cards are there and you shouldn't have any problems so check which kernel you are running.

Also if you are just starting with linux I would highly recommen going to linuxreality.com and lietenning to the podcasts -they are great and the forum there is helpful - also have and irc channel as well.

Linuxbasics.org run a good free course as well and again have forums and irc.

  9. Hitman 32 here and new to the scene.

Please don't take offense but i'm not going to fill out the generic questionier about myself.

New to a lot of stuff and would like to be a long term member and I am here for learning not learning how to hack into my ex-girlfriends email address or anything like that.

I have no problem researching stuff regarding a post but the thing is this is like learning a new language in regards to what it is you all do, so please bear with my noobism.

I have Windows Vista ( maybe a mistake) and in other forums a lot of people suggest Linkux (?).

    However,

    Hello All

You are so right, it is like trying to learn a new language and i think the vets here should welcome us noobs who really want to learn, I know a lot of uber noobs come in here claiming they wanna learn to hack just so they can show off to their other lame friends but that is not true for all of us, i want to learn cause I have always had a interest in computers and trying to mod things to make them better or find a new use for it all together.

My first mod was using the lil rabbit ear transmitter and receiver for the old tv sets to transmit your cable from one tv to the other using radio frequency. I said hey if i can transmit Audio and video from a tv transmitting voice from a phone would be a breeze So I got my transmitter and cut the power wire and attached the 9 volt battery to it that i ripped out of my Army green G.I Joe Walkie Talkies (THAT PICKED UP AND TRANSMITTED TO CORDLESS PHONES) and I got a roll of black tape and some zip ties and snuck under my neighbors trailer and spliced their phone wire and hooked up the RCA plugs to their wire with some gator clips and zip tied the whole unit under their trailer.

I ran home and hooked up the receiver to my tv and was just all fuzzy inside that it worked. I know it was wrong but hell I  was 11, i didn't know any better

  11. I just recently discovered HAK.5  less than a week ago, and i am mad at all the time I have wasted on other sites. I have been watching the shows in a marathon way trying to catch up. I like the shows comical approach to learning, you all make the show very informative, and entertaining.

I also love the fact that from what i see the show started out as just a simple love for technology and a video camera into a full blown company with a loyal following. I am a new fan of HAK.5 and will be watching and posting in these forums for a long long time. I would love to join you all on IRC but for some reason I can't log on to the servers.

LOL, I think I need to pull up my pants, my noob is showing

  12. Backtrack worked with my Broadcom in my laptop, I just had to(after booting into backtrack desktop) do the Function+F2 key combo to turn on the radio of the card. Then all the wireless tools worked with my card. Once it loses the card though, I usually had to reboot to get it back. Buggy, be this was with (I think) a Backtrack 2 Live Disc. I used a sperate USB Thumb drive to store all the wifi, wireshark logs and packet data, etc.

Thanks, I will try this now, i realy don't have the cash to go buy a new card. And to let you all know I am seriouse about learning and not just here trying to get easy answers i went to the library today and got me a linux book intitled  LINUX for windows addicts by: Michael Joseph Miller

I know it might not be the best but it looks user freindly and that's what i need. Most of these sites, forums, and books claim to be noob freindly but are not, They forget that this is new to us and since they have been using said program for awhile they forget or assume we know what they are talking about.

  13. I downloaded backtrack and it loads fine but it does not detect my wireless card  Dell wireless 1395 wlan mini-card manufacturer broadcom. D i need to install a driver? This is my first time using linux and I am lost, is there anyone out there with some free time willing to help out with some advice on how to configure backtrack or at least point me in the right direction?

  14. Hi I am new to this site, I found you all through IronGeek.  I ran cross the program Cain and Able while looking for a program to recover some lost photos on my memory card.  As I started reading about cain and able, watching you tube clips and  researching other Network security programs and exploits I was just wowed at how much I thought I new but had no clue.  I ran the program on my PC and my Jaw just dropped.  Now I am like a hungry kid wanting more.
