  1. Sorry to intercede on the ongoing problem, but I have created my first independent render.

Yes, I know it is quite chunky and rather unrealistic, but I thought I would show the first result of this thread.

    Thanks guys.

  2. I am currently using Ubuntu on a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. I really like it, but it is one of the most limited of the linux distros in terms of learning. The newest ubuntu release, 7.04 , will be released April 19th. The beta is currently out, but I would recommend waiting until it is fully released. It is supposed to be more hardware-friendly for laptops and networking.

I would also reccomend using GNOME over KDE, as I found KDE to be a huge memory-hog on my laptop.

  3. Hey. I recently got interested in 3D modeling and i'm looking for a place to start. Any suggestions for good modeling programs to use? I would prefer something free and fairly easy to use. I am booting only with linux right now, so a program native to that OS would be nice.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

  4. I have to go with the Wii. I have one, and it is quite awesome. I've played the Xbox 360 and had a PS2, but nothing compares to that feeling as you wildly swing your arms to beat the crap out of some monsters with a sword.

When I look at the 360, I just see a glorified Xbox with better equipment. Yeah, the graphic are pretty amazing on it, but it really hasn't changed much. Still just twiddling your thumbs to kill stuff. Just not real enough.

The PS3 just up and shot itself when it came to marketing and availability. The Wii came in pretty sporadic shipments, but from what I have heard was a hell of a lot easier to get than the PS3. And really, who wants to pay $600 for something without that much change?

I am amazed by the Wii. Playing Wii sports for the first time blew my mind, and it must be one of the best games available for it. Apart from only being $250, this is totally different than anything I have played before.

My shoulders have never hurt from playing Halo 2.

    I now have acquired a 'Wii-muscle'.

I couldn't play Super Mario Brothers without hooking up the old Nintendo Entertainment System.

Now I can. And it feels just like the original A-B controller.

Welcome to the wild world of the Wii.
