  1. Its been a few days now and there the problem seems to have solved itself. The routes are no longer being added. I found that the IPs belong to a ISP in Canada. Thanks for all the help though.

  2. Thanks for the replies. The routes are added ~1 hour after I remove them. And yes they're not the same routes but are from the same IP range (ex. they all start with 66.xxx.xxx.xxx). I don't do anything and they just "appear" about an hour after I remove them. Is my server compromised?

  3. Hi everyone,

I recently did a route print on a Windows 2003 Server running Windows Media Services. There are a lot of IPs in there that don't belong to me. And when I delete them "new" ones are added about an hour later all from the same IP range. What does this mean? Is someone trying to take my content?

  4. I keep hearing that programs written in assembly uses less resources. For example, I often hear that Nod32 is written completely in assembly and therefore has lower memory usage and gives it faster scanning speeds than other AVs. I thought that all programming languages compiles to assembler or machine language. If so, can someone explain to me why programs written in assembly language is more "efficient" than say a program written in C++? Or at least point me to a resource. Thanks in advance.

  5. Thanks for all the help so far. And I didn't use the setup to install TightVNC. I just ran the executable from the Zip that I extracted to the desktop. It was never meant to be a permanent solution. I was suppose to get my computer back a few weeks ago but I'm too busy with school to be driving that far for my computer. But I do use the computer for downloading things and such so...

Anyways, how do I put it on the DMZ? Can someone explain or point me to a resource?

    Thanks for the help.

  6. I think its something wrong with the VNC server because it "connects" but before it can finish loading the screen it closes. When I try to connect using Java, it connects but it doesn't display the "login" dialogue box. It says the applet has loaded but that's it, just blank. The title bar on Firefox displays the name of my computer and doesn't display anything.

As for patches, I haven't updated in a few months (~3 months). I didn't want to update because I don't have VNC running as a service. And how can I use metasploit to reconnect?

  7. I'm running a Windows XP (Home Edition) computer behind a NAT router and I control it remotely using VNC. However, I recently lost control of it. I'm not sure what happened but when I tried connecting to it yesterday it just wouldn't connect. No error message or anything the viewer just opened and then closed. I'm using TightVNC server and I've tried using the TightVNC viewer, UltraVNC viewer and the Java viewer to connect to the computer with no success.

The machine is located in my uncle's house and he's out of town for the next 2 weeks or so which means I can't get physical access to it (not to mention he lives ~80 miles from me). I can connect to the router fine (remote management is enabled). I checked all the settings on the router such as port forwarding and such. Is there anyway for me to get shell access to the computer so that I can restart the machine or just the VNC server? Thanks in advance.

  8. Hey everyone,

I just bought a new laptop (HP DV2040us) and it comes with an express card slot. I can't sniff using the built in wireless (subject title). On my old laptop (dv1331se) I've always used a PC card to do sniffing, scanning, etc. Is there a way for me to get my built-in card to go into promiscuous mode? If not, which express card wireless adapter would you guys recommend? I personally, can't seem to find any express card adapters in stores or online. Thanks in advanced.

  9. Thanks for the suggestions. My dad really likes Sony computers but I prefer HP's because the Sony costs more for the same specs.

It’s good for the price, but I don’t like Sony computers. You can get some good laptops from HP, if you can’t afford a ThinkPad.

Is that from HP's website or retail? And is it after rebates or as is?

  10. My dad is looking to get a laptop for work. He wants something that is powerful (preferably enough to do minor video editing), thin, light, and durable. He really wants a Thinkpad but they're expensive. Any suggestions? Budget is around $1000 to $1200

And preferably an Intel Core Duo and Windows XP Pro.

  11. I was wonder if anyone can explain to me how to set up a wireless network like the one in my school's library. The wireless network has no encryption so anyone can just hop on it. When you connect you can't access the internet until after you've opened your browser which gets automatically redirected to the library's login page and enter your student ID and PIN. After you've logged in a popup comes up that you have to keep open in order to remain connected. I want to set up a wireless network similar to this so I hope someone can at least explain to me how it would be setup and how it works. Thanks in advanced.
