What actually causes the light to blink in response to ??

The LAN1 light on my router blinks orange when I am using the internet and blinks really fast when downloading/using discord or skype calls, and blinks slowly when reading webpages etc. I was wondering if there is a way to disable this/make the light stay non-blinking. Thanks
