  1. As the title said, I want to use my TL-WN722N with a 9dbi antenna connected via usb to connect to a network, and then rebroadcast it using one of the the built in antennas effectively creating a wifi extender. I guess the proper approach would be to connect to the wifi network and then just create an AP? If not please correct me, I was also wondering if I need to configure my TL-WN722N to work with the 9dbi antenna/ through the usb port on the pineapple, or if it would work "auto-magically".

  2. I am not familiar with the FCCs rules and regulations regarding 2.4 Ghz wifi, if you connect a radio via the usb interface does it count as a separate radio or is it on the same board as another radio because of usb placement on the board. I don't really know what I'm saying  so if you can't follow me; I want to have 2 point to point connections using both of the build in antennas and then a point to multipoint connection via a different radio (likely an alfa) connected to the usb interface, is this legal.

  3. I am experimenting with mesh networking and wifi triangulation but I only own one Pineapple. Most people would tell me to either buy more pineapples which isn't an option for someone without an income, or run openWRT on some other router I own (which I plan to do) but I want to use the pineapple's software so I can easily transfer both knowledge and software, so I guess my question would be, can I run the Pineapples tweaked version of openWRT on a WRT54gl or similar routers?

  4. Of course. In theory, you can do it with pretty much any device that is connected to the internet and is capable of running an SSH server (and of course allows for portforwarding).

What you need to make sure of is that the IP address of the device doesn't randomly change (otherwise the pineapple will fail to connect to it) and that you can open ports on the device.

    Best Regards,

    Sebkinne

Thank you for the fast reply!

I will try this when I get home and fix my pineapple :/

  5. I am sorry if this question has been asked before; I have limited time and access here at school. But, can a raspberry pi be used as a relay server? I have seen multiple videos of people using a VM as a relay server but could you do it with a pi?

  6. Faking is a bit difficult (but possible). If you want to disable this behavior, simply go into your phone's WiFi settings and find the advanced menu. There, uncheck the box called "avoid poor connections".

    Best Regards,

    Sebkinne

Thanks for the reply and this setting definitely helped but I have 2 or 3 routers at my desk causing it to not always work.

An unrelated question: Is there a way to hid your pineapples AP ssid?

  7. I would like to apologize for my spam of topics, but I need some more help. When trying to auto connect to the pineapples network it automatically reconnects me to a network with a real connection because the pineapple doesn't have an internet connection. Is there a way to either stop android from reconnecting me or to "fake" a real connection? Preferable the latter but I can deal with either.

  8. Hi siftyy,

Personally, I can not recommend using Bluetooth as a means to supply Internet to the pineapple as it would be complicated to set up and has a few unknowns.

I would just get a third wireless and and plug that in over USB. We are releasing a list of compatible USB dangles / chipsets that will work out of the box with the WiFi Pineapple MKV.

Greater range and throughput that Bluetooth has (and also takes up the USB slot).

    Best regards,

    Sebkinne

Is there a set date for when the list of compatible dongles will be released?

  9. I had posted a thread some time ago about using bluetooth with the Pineapple as a means of tethering to free up both wifi antennas and still have wireless tethering. I hadn't even received my Pineapple back then and was a bit of a noob (I still am) and was wondering how that could be done. Foxtrot mentioned something about kmods? I tried to look at them on the wiki but nothing came up, could someone explain them to me?

  10. You need network access to the pineapple in order to connect to it. I assume you want to disconnect the cat-5 cable, but still have the pineapple connected to the local network (and the internet) via one of the pineapple's wireless interfaces. Is that the question?

To do that via the web interface, go into the Network infusion, select the Client Mode tab and connect to a local AP just as you would your laptop or phone. (This can also be done via the WiFi Manager infusion.) Once your pineapple is connected to the local AP, make a note of its IP and ssh (or browse) to that. (You can then disconnect the cable and still have access.)

You could also set up the pineapple as an AP (again using the Network or WiFi Manager infusions), connect your laptop to that, and ssh to 172.16.42.1. But you'll need Client Mode (or the cable) anyway to get your pineapple on the network.

(As a next step, when my pineapple boots, it uses the autossh service to create two port forward tunnels (22 & 1471) to a "relay server" I have set up. So I can SSH or browse in from anywhere, not just a local network.)

    Did siftyy's question get answered?

All of these replies were great, but Fringes hit the nail on the head, thank you so much for your answer!

  11. From my very limited knowledge of VPNs how I think they are set up is, VPN - verizon router - switch - computer, if that is incorrect stop me now but I am moving on to what I want to do.

Is it possible to setup a VPN on an internal network? IE: Verizon router - switch - VPN - switch - (everything connected to the switch)

The switch is in my room and I would like to connect to the vpn and act as if I was in my room (controling the lights, lock, music, etc.)

Would it work this way? If not is there any way to make it work? I'm sorry I don't know the modle of the cisco VPN router I am using, I will edit in the name and modle when I get home from school.

  12. I'm not sure this is the right thread but here goes, I have a MSI wind u100 netbook from five or six years ago. I want to run another linux environment to use as a "testing computer", the problem I've been haveing is most OS's are to heavy for the six year old netbook. I've been running Xubuntu which is a lightweight distro of Ubuntu and that still runs slow! Is there a way to boot into the command line? Or do I have a better option?

Just a note, I've put in an SSD I had lying around so the HD is not what's slowing it down.

  13. What it means is that you should insert the formatted sd card into a secondary computer, windows, mac or linux.

Extract the content of the zip file onto the sd card.

What extracting zip files or whatever to the root of the sd card means, is that you shouldn't put it in a folder but onto the empty sd card :)

    I formatted mine in fat32

Hmmm, that's what I did, I must have done something else wrong, I'll have to try and fix it when I'm home again.

  14. Hey everyone, I've bricked my pineapple so I went to this guide for help, I understood everything up until step 8. How do you extract the zip to root? through the web page or plugged directly into a pc? Lastly, when you're formatting the drive what format should you use, FAT32?

  15. Here's what you do and it's not as hard as you think.. Get in trouble with one of your teachers and get sent to the principals office.. When you are waiting in the lobby and the secretary gets up to go to the bathroom or something, quickly run over to her desk. Above one of the drawers there should be a pull out table of sorts. There should be a piece of paper taped on there with all of the passwords. Trust me, this never fails and it is far cheaper than buying a roof antenna for your router.

Seriously though, I had an imagination like that back in school. All I can say is to give it a shot. If you fail you will learn from your mistakes and you will know more than when you started.

    Metal locker = Faraday cage

1.5 miles on a farm isn't so bad but 1.5 miles in the city = a lot of interference.

Haha yeah, but thats not the point. I could easily bruteforce the wifi password, but where's the fun in that!

    Thanks for the reply,

    ~ Sam
