  1. suddenly my virgin modem wont connect with 2.8 firmware. Connected fine in Windows. Poops out right after I get an IP.

    Here is the log. Any ideas anyone? Tried bypassing the usb hub.

  2. Update- I was able to get bluez-utils & dbus installed, but I am running into kernel issues installing kmod-bluetooth on Mark iV (2.7)

    My kernel version is:

    root@Pineapple:/# opkg info kernel
    Package: kernel

    Any suggestions? Would updating to Firmware 2.8 help?

  3. Does the Cruzer stick or other USB devices, minus the modem, function when plugged into the hub? If not, then I would use TwistedPacket's suggestion and try another hub. Are you sure your getting 2.1A to the hub? Where is that power source from?

    I am using a Belkin F4U019 Passive Mobile Travel hub that you can get at OfficeMax for 15$, took the power lead from hub input and moved it to a powered 2.1A external power source. 1.2A to the Pineapple is adequate. I have a Cruzer, Alfa wifi, and VirginMobile U600 modem all connected to it and running with no issues at all.

    I never had to plug everything in after the pineapple boots.

  4. Looks like you might have a kernel issue with networkmanager. Did you try uninstalling Network Manager and do a reinstall? Before reinstalling check for lastest from repo

    opkg update networkmanager -d usb

    (assuming you have it installed on a usb drive)

    .

  5. I have myself an AIRcable Host XR3 Bluetooth plugged into the Mark IV Pineapple, drivers are loading fine. Now I am trying to get bluetooth protocol support by installing BlueZ like this

     opkg install kmod-bluetooth bluez-utils

    But I do not have enuf room to install it :-(

    My question is there anyway to clean up space on the pineapple, or some way of installing BlueZ to USB drive?

    I am also curious if the libraries (like dbus and libexpat) that did get installed (see screenshot) will crash the box once I reboot.

  6. OK, if you can connect and pull data, the driver must be reading your device. I noticed in the log my modem will disconnect occasionally, but it reconnects right away.

    How strong the your signal in your location?

    regarding your question abt the config file, what I did was:

    SSH into /etc/usb_modeswitch.d directory. You will see some 1fac:xxxx files. Copy one of those files, edit it by clearing all contents and paste this in

    # Franklin Wireless U600

    DefaultVendor= 0x1fac
    DefaultProduct=0x0150

    TargetVendor=  0x1fac
    TargetProduct= 0x0151

    MessageContent="555342431234567824000000800108df200000000000000000000000000000"

    Save as 1fac:0150 and upload to /etc/usb_modeswitch.d, then reboot.

    Paste your log after a few disconnects here if your still having issues.

  7. I connected a client to the wifi of the pineapple and hit some webpages. I noticed Interfaces-> 3g-wan2 rx and tx bytes increasing as I load webpages on the wifi client. I then went to see what IP the client had and it was the one issued by Virgin Mobile USA.

    Everything is working perfect. I didnt even have to do anything with ICS or change the internet gateway. Firewall was already setup.

    Next task, get the 4G WiMax lit up.

  8. Another Update,

    In the .3g script i posted above i notice my device was 151, not 150, So I used this

    *1fac:0150* | *1fac:0151*) echo "Franklin Wireless U600 (Virgin Mobile) detected. Attempting mode switch"

    Then I rebooted. I noticed the 3G lites where now solid and blinking as if there as activity. Then I went to the log and now I am issuing commands,

    Now its time to see if I can pull some data (FINALLY!!!).

  9. I made a little progress. While browsing this directory /etc/usb_modeswitch.d I noticed a bunch of files with product IDs, I saw one for franklin fac:xxx and copied it and named it to 1fac:0150

    Inside 1fac:0150 i added this

    # Franklin Wireless U600

    DefaultVendor= 0x1fac
    DefaultProduct=0x0150

    TargetVendor=  0x1fac
    TargetProduct= 0x0151

    MessageContent="555342431234567824000000800108df200000000000000000000000000000"

    .3g script is

    *1fac:0150* | *1fac:0151*) echo "Franklin Wireless U600 (Virgin Mobile) detected. Attempting mode switch"
            uci delete network.wan2
    uci set network.wan2=interface
    uci set network.wan2.ifname=ppp0

    But lsusb still shows

    Bus 001 Device 007: ID 1fac:0151

  10. I had that issue too formatting drives on windows for the p-apple, my issue was i didnt create a swap partition on the USB drive and I didnt set the 1st EXT4 partition as primary. Delete your 1 partition, create one for primary and one for swap, and try that out.

    Also make sure your fstab looks similar to this:

    config global automount
           option from_fstab 1
           option anon_mount 1

    config global autoswap
           option from_fstab 1
           option anon_swap 1

    config mount
           option target   /usb
           option device   /dev/sda1
           option fstype   ext4
           option options  rw,sync
           option enabled  1
           option enabled_fsck 0

    config swap
           option device   /dev/sda2
           option enabled  1

    Such as mentioned here

  11. I am powering a memory stick, wifi adapter, and 3G modem from a hub powered on a 5v 2.1A battery supply. Pending on what your hooking into the hub, you should be alight.

    Regarding your second question, if the hub is already a powered via external 5v source, you shouldnt need to splice anything. The case in which this needs to be done is if you can converting a non-powered hub to a powered hub.

  12. I hear ya pimmpinit, I'm on week 2. I never dealt with serial components on *nix

    The APN I got from your post, username I got after I activated the modem on windows (see screenshot), the password I have no idea... I am guessing it is null value.

    I hope someone familiar with installing generic usb modem drivers can steer us as in the right direction cu I'm totally taking shots in the dark here.
