  1. Yes yes, I will hurry up. Too many things to do :(

I will get it out today though.

It should help you with your issues, IF you flash it that is. That is highly recommended.

The new MK3s from the Hakshop actually ship with 1.9 and soon 2.0.

    Best,

    Sebkinne

Sounds good i will certainly re flash it I still don't get why it got stuck though? any ideas?

heres the part i get stuck at? i've tried several times now?

my ip is 172.16.42.42 and the device is 172.16.42.1

  2. What a coincidence i just want to buy that usb to barrel same seller :) :)

    they ship very quickly :)

I use a homemade usb to barrel adapter. The thing to do would be to plug it in and (carefully) check the voltage using a voltmeter. You should have a solid 5.0VDC coming out. I run my pineapple this way and have for days at a time. Yes, the battery pack sucks. Please SEARCH and find a couple other threads on how to solve the problems with the power barrel.

    telot

Sorry i will search in future.. my bad, anyway i don't have a volt meter. I'm pretty sure its putting out the desired voltage as the lights come on perfectly whereas if i used cheapy battery in the battery pack you could see the lights flickering due to the poor amount of power..

Perhaps i should hack it up and combine the 2 usb headers to the one barrel and give it x2 5v leading it to 10v?? or would it not work like that? i'm just thinking along the lines of some USB devices i have seen in the past which plug into 2 usb ports to power it.

  3. Please search first next time. Its really important.

    1. yes

    2. yes but theres some tricks to it. (see http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?showtopic=25160&hl=%20usb%20%20jasager&st=0)

    3. it takes multiple tries. otherwise mr.protocol LOVES giving out the link (hehe)

    4. learn to flash it anyways. flashing it is a good thing to know, particularly as firmware 2.0 is coming out very soon (like today hopefully).

    telot

Thanks for the link. It takes multiple tries? i tried about 4 times then i got worried i would brick it so gave up... I followed all the tutorials on here and MrProtocol's you tube video...

Good news on 2.0, what are the main issues with 1.0.2??

Off topic but on that link you gave me, this sucks!

I think I may have found something here: http://technet.micro...y/cc730957.aspx Correct me if I'm wrong.

"Because the wireless networks are explicitly marked as broadcast or non-broadcast, wireless clients running Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 and Windows Vista, send only probe requests for non-broadcast wireless networks."

This would make the Wifi Pineapple useless when targeting a Windows 7, Vista or Server 2008 PC.

  4. Hello all

I've been having some really wierd issues with my wifi pineapple... It wont work half the time... some times i can run wp3.sh and it will work flawlessly other times i have to try over and over until it will ping and let me in...

It's really acting strange and it makes experimenting in public hard...

I have a number of questions also that i would like answered if possible:

1, Do you have to run wp3.sh every time you start from a fresh cold boot etc or is it just to setup ICS etc...? Reason i ask is i only ever seem to be able to connect to the interface IF i run wp3.sh??

2, Is the 1.0.2 firmware stable and fully functional as i tried karma on mine and it didn't really seem to be very effective? I'm not sure if it is actually working?

3, I tried flashing it to 1.9 but it got stuck at a point where it was saying something about your ip is 192.168.0... when i made sure the ip was 172.16.42.42??? Luckily it didn't brick it... what is going wrong here?

4, do i REALLY need to flash it? or is 1.0.2 fine to use? i hate flashing things!!

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

  5. I thought I was having problems with mine as well so I switched out batteries and managed to squeeze some life out of the unit. Then I googled the specs for the AP51. Maybe it's me but why are we using a 6vdc battery deck for what appears to be a 12vdc device? Even the AC adapter has a 12vdc output. Could it be that 6vdc is the lower threshold for the AP51 and its not the connector at all?

You can buy Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) AA sized batteries that are rated for 1.65vdc each ( X 4 = 6.6vdc ) but I think that level is still insufficient and that the AP51 should have come with a 12vdc deck instead of the 6.

Here's the specs I found for the AP51. Voltage spec is toward the bottom of the page:

    http://www.alfa.com.tw/in/front/bin/ptdetail.phtml?Part=AP51&Category=105479

I picked up a couple of low profile 12v sealed lead acid batteries this afternoon from Batteries Plus to do a DIY replacement. I'm hoping it will do the trick.

    Interesting point!

I know for a fact mine is the connector as when i keep it in a curtain position its fine.

One thing i also thought about, the previous post about usb to barrel connector, USB is just 5v so how would usb power the AP51 if its 12v ?!

I've ordered a 5.5mm barrel to usb cable to give it a go anyway as its far better to use than the bulky battery pack which in my case does sod all anyway lol

  6. I too gave up on it and this is coming from a massive fan of the duke nukem 3d series!

It just wasn't duke nukem at all... it was more like playing call of duty with a duke nukem mod/skin...

Having to hide for your "ego" to refill... fun idea but it ISNT DUKE! its a call of duty thing, why copy it?!

Not being able to hold all your guns... wtf were they thinking!?

Only parts i really enjoyed was the first part, straight into the previous boss with the devastators, good times!

    and also... non-pixely BOOBS! :)

apart from that though... really sucked, wasn't duke nukem at all...

    Such a shame really...

  7. I had the same problem. The barrel adapter that came with my AP51 MK3 didn't fit correctly. I went to my local computer store and bought a new barrel adapter. The size is 5.5mm od 2.1mm id. You'll need to remove the old and solder the new. Alternatively you can buy a USB to Barrel adapter to power the MK3 off of your laptop's USB port :)

Mine fits perfectly its just the wires that are dodgy and cause it to turn off randomly.

that would be helpful! do you have a link to the one i would need?

  8. Hi all not sure if this is the right place to post this but i've been having issues with my battery pack since day one?? i have to jiggle the wire around to get it to actually work?

is this a common issue? im guessing the solder up by the actual socket it abit poor or something???

    any fixes for this?

  9. So sorry that you ran into that issue. Seems there was a small batch of pineapples that went out with borked bits. If you're confident flashing, Seb's 1.9 firmware is solid. Otherwise contact shop@hak5.org and we'll make things right. I'll be writing up a guide shortly to spell out the simple flashing process step by step.

    Hey Darren!

Thanks for your reply. Don't worry these things happen I guess. I have sent you an email @ the hak shop to see what solutions you may have.

    Thanks again bud :)

p.s. Seb, good work on the firmware! B)

EDIT: Quick update from me, some how the pineapple has jumped back to life after resetting the device via the botton on the back. I've been able to ping it and access the control panel now which is great news! It's running version 1.0.2 of the OS are there any updates that i should give it?

Thanks for the help guys! Hopefully it will remain stable now

  10. Flashing the pineapple is actually very simple. Just follow the guide I posted.

Bricking your router is actually quite hard to do, but it CAN happen.

Flashing it without being able to connect to it is simple:

When your router boots up, you have about 1-2 seconds to get into the bootloader. That has a different "fixed" IP.

After that, the router boots up into the operating system, which in your case seems broken.

Flashing shouldn't be as scary as it is made out to be, just know that if something does go wrong, we aren't responsible.

I re-flashed my pineapple about 20 times today, sometimes with a totally corrupted image (loss of sleep made me mess the image up).

I have bricked one router so far. That was because I flashed a different bootloader. Flashing the OS and Kernel is not nearly as dangerous.

    Best,

    Sebkinne

Thats good to know i wasn't aware it had a little boot loader before the actual OS... i can see what you mean byt bricking it being pretty hard to do.

I can now for some reason ping the unit and its not disconnecting me at all but it still wont let me into the control panel.

I guess it is borked... shame if i knew this before i could of just bought a AP51 and flashed it myself like i'm clearly going to have to do anyway... awesome...

  11. Ya, this seems to a standard occurence. I just had to keep pounding on it until it started to work somewhat. What OS are you using?

That kinda sucks then...! I only got it today and it's been switched on once.... <_<

    I'm running back track 5 R1

    Things I've done so far:

I've checked the ethernet cable, stable

I've tried logging onto the pineapple with a static IP which allows me to connect to it for about 3 - 15 seconds before i get chucked off again

Running DHCP = no connection AT ALL!

    This sucks... :(

    Edit:

For both of you, I recommend you both flash my latest firmware.

It includes a few updates and fixes this issue.

    Best,

    Sebkinne

I was worried you would say that... Flashing isn't my strong point and I'm hearing alot of storys about bricking :(

Is it hard to flash the pineapple? I really don't want to risk bricking it...

How can i flash it without being able to connect to it?

  12. Hey all

First off, hats off to hak5 for there speedy shipping to the UK with my Pineapple! Also thanks for the hak 5 stickers too! :D My netbook loved them.

Anyway I got it all hooked up and read abit of the manual, ran wp3.sh left everything standard and then once complete i logged into the (awesome) bbs style control center!

Then i had to nip out and do something so i unplugged it and did what i needed to do. Came back this evening to begin more tinkering and now i cannot seem to access the control panel? I can ping the pineapple on its default IP but no joy with the control panel???

I've tried getting DHCP no joy! Tried a static IP, no joy also! I've noticed the LAN/WAN light is going on and off alot too??

EDIT: Ok Scratch that things are getting abit worse now haha... It's not even recieving pings now and when i try to connect to it via eth0 the network manager shows constant disconnects? i can connect it and about 3 seconds after it will always disconnect me?

    Any ideas??

  13. Kudos for the pics! Did that myself in like 2005 (I think), but scratched it after the dog pulled it down from the tv-counter and I didn't have the energy to mod a nes-controller :/.

    Thanks bud :)

Aww bad times! I sold mine in the end for a fairly good profit!

Mod the nes controller? no need, did you know you can use the original ports and controller and solder the original port to a parallel port and it will work with a PSX controller driver and a number of emulators! :D i did it to mine it was so cool! playing mario land on it with the original controller and ports it was really fun!

    nes_port.gif

  14. what i've noticed with my tests with the pineapple and my local client is that when my encrypted AP isn't around, the pineapple accepts any probe request and my client automatically wants to connect to it unsecured. is it just me or is that a common windows issue. however, in most cases, when you go to a target filled area, they are mostly connected to an open network, like at mcdonalds or starbucks they will automatically connect to you cause it's all open. they dont give a shit. most people are idiots though so like when they are connected to their secured AP and you deauth em, their system wants to connect to your pineapple, they will answer yes when it asks to connect to unsecured network.

Good info! Thanks bud! Well mine is on its way so i will do alot of tests with it and see how it goes...

    All legit of course :P

  15. then you asumed wrong.. at least as far as auto-connect goes... but these days people almost always have used a hotspot without encryption at some point, they are everywhere..

hotels, airports, MCDonalds, and many more... In Denmark we even have open (and free) wifi in alot of the trains..

    Very fair point!

It doesn't really bother me either way i was just surprised it wasn't explained abit more in the promo vids or hak5 shows.

Its a great little unit regardless and i praise the developers on their work :D

  16. Yes it only automatically works for open routers.

Now I've been planning to purchase a Pineapple since the mark 2 days... I've watched every video relating to it both on hak 5 and curtain special promo vid's Darren made... And not one of these gave me the impression you needed OPEN networks on the "victim" for this to work?! i assumed it would work on at least WEP...

    Hmm...
