  1. Hey all

I'm going to a camp site soon... I wanna finally try my pineapple mark III out...

The camp site is pretty big id say 200 yards squared... What sort of antenna should i get for maximum range in a 360 (omni-directional?) way

I've used the Yagi style antennas like Hak5 use but tbh i found them really crap when i used it with my Alfa 2000mW wireless N adaptor... and im 99% sure they are directional anyway i want 360 for maximum ownage!

    Any idea's?

  2. Hi all

Anyone got any idea on what sort of range the AP51 hardware can do with the 5dBi antenna??

I'm going on holiday soon and the camp site where we are staying provides wifi if you pay... I'm going to tether my laptop to my 3g mobile (which has unlimited data) and share out the technolust!

This will also let me test the pineapple finally in a real scenario... nothing evil just educational...

    Any ideas?

  3. That is the OpenMesh first model. Technically Mark II. Basically the same board as the Fon though.

Ooooo i see! so shes a little bit old now then haha

Whats the spec of it?! it doesn't look like it has much inside it haha

Is flashing the mark 2 the same as flashing the mark III in windows? as i've done a mark III before which was stupidly simple...

Hmmm... what to do with it... I will stick with my mark III for fun and games but... not sure what to do with this one...?

    Any ideas? lol

  4. My bad- didn't explain very well.

Whenever i tried the mk3 firmware on my fonera 2100 i got constant reboots due to memory maxing out, so just assumed it couldn't handle the mk3 firmware, so i dropped back to the mk2 firmware. if you already have a mk3 i would stick to using that, more reliable then using the mk2 hardware w/mk3 firmware (in my opinion - others may have different experiances) :)

I see! Perhaps i will keep it as is i just prefer the DHCP being on the device and also the BBS layout is awesome!

I don't know what model i have I'm pretty sure its a Fon..

    model is: mr3201a-38nq

  5. Hello all!

I've just got my hands on a mark II pineapple and a mark III pineapple off a very good buddy of mine...

Now I have a number of questions...

Can you run mark III firmware on the mark II?

Can someone link me to a USB to barrel power cable for them both? (unless they use the same one?)

Is the mark II still a good little worker for wifi manipulation? I've never used one before and I'm not sure what the differances are between it and the mark III are??

    thanks in advance

  6. Hi all

Been playing around with the idea of a PFsence, smoothwall etc firewall long time now.

I've just purchased a Dell SX280 Ultra Small Form Factor PC, Pentium 4 2.8 with HT, 2GB RAM, and a 40GB HDD.

    dell-sx280-ultra-small-pc-p4-28ghz-40gb-hard-drive-512mb.jpg

Apparently according to the ESXi 3.5 whitelist this thing will run ESXi 3.5 which is great! It's a tiny machine and if i can run 3 or 4 low spec VM's on it then great!

I plan to run x2 windows 2003 servers on it (or 2008 if i can get it to run nice on the lack of RAM), x1 Ubuntu server for local web dev and also a firewall which all my web traffic will go through.

    My questions are:

Can i use a USB wifi adaptor on smoothwall/PFsence or any other u can think of?

I'm from the UK and we have differant ways to connect to the net here via the telephone... I think you US guys use RJ45?? correct me if im wrong... Is there anyway to connect my VM directly to the telephone so it is the actual router otherwise i will have to get the VM to connect via wifi to my actual router and then run 2 routers effectively which is kinda pointless..

Out of all of them which is the best?? pfsence?? smoothwall?

Cheers in advance guys! sorry if some of these questions are abit n00bish I've never set up a HW firewall before.

  7. 1. To my knowledge the reset button doesn't reset anything. (COULD BE WRONG!). Best thing to do is reflash your firmware and access it with 172.16.42.1/pineapple See the hundreds of posts Mr. Protocol has done on this - he is the reflash god.

    2. The hardware retails (new) at around $35-50. Used I have no clue.

    3. Duh.

    Hi

Thanks for your reply, I flashed it earlier, needed the latest firmware anyway (i was on 2.0.1) so its now running the latest firmware and i can now get access again via 172.16.42.1.. whats the correct way to get it to run under 192.168.0.x networks? or is it best to just leave it?

    thanks guys

  8. Hi all

    I have afew questions:

1, I've just setup my pineapple to work with a 192.168.0.x LAN however since i have done this i cannot get access to the device what so ever? how can i factory reset it back to the normal 172.42.16.x IP setup as the reset botton on the back does not do anything?

2, How much is a mark III (AP51 hardware, latest firmware, usb powered) worth? as i might sell it?

Finally, 3, Does anyone else agree, that Snubs, is soooo damn hot :D :D :D :D :D

    Thanks guys, appreciate any feedback!

  9. hi all

I've searched around but can't see anything about this... My pineapple is now asking me for a username and password after i flashed it to 2.1???

Big thanks to MainFrame on IRC who assisted me in trying to find out the user/pass for it unfortunately we had no luck...

    I have tried:

    pineapple / pineapplesareyummy

    hak5store / pineapplesareyummy

    hak5 / pineapplesareyummy

    letmeinyou**** / ffsdamnyou!!!

    what are the credentials, anyone?

  10. That is exactly the right one! I am really impressed with the quality and fit on these, perfect for the MK3. The price went up since my last purchase of these prior to Christmas, bit still great quality and a deal at that price. Funny coincidence, the other 2 I ordered arrived today!

ordered thanks for the heads up! i really appreciate it!

  11. Good to know, hopefully that fixes some of the issues people have. Wouldn't a cross over cable avoid the need for a switch in those circumstances?

I don't think it would its like using a hub instead of a switch with 2 straight through cables, its the auto negotiating thats the issue which is controlled by the device not the cable and hubs don't touch this side of things and clearly nor do some NICs

for referance i used a crossover cable which didn't work

  12. I've run into this issue attempting to flash before. Don't worry - you're not going to brick it. Just throw a switch in there. Not the one you use for your home LAN but a spare if you have one. This has to do with auto negotiating ethernet ports. When we flash 'em at the HakShop half the laptops we use can go straight ethernet while the other laptops require a switch in between. What you'll need is something that looks like this:

[PC running Freifunk] ====ethernet==== [Cheap 10/100 Switch] ====ethernet==== [pineapple]

    Hello Darren

    Thanks for your reply!

That's interesting! Sucks that I don't have one spare at the moment though. I will have to source one I guess.

I may try to use my parents desktop see if their NIC overcomes this issue. All my other boxes/laptops/netbooks here run linux/backtrack

Thanks for clearing it up at least I know what I need to do now :)

  13. Have you uninstalled and reinstalled winpcap? (Using an administrator account)

Try setting your NIC Card's static IP to 192.168.0.25 instead of the 172.16.42.42 and give that a shot. There were some other issues I had while making the flashing video with it needing to have been powered off for like 5 minutes before attempting to flash. Check out the link in my signature for the video and for the other things I did to get mine working.

Tried with 192.168.0.25 as the IP for my ethernet card. no joy

Tried reinstalling winpcap again (as admin) (3rd install in total) no joy

I've always made sure the pineapple has been off for 5 mins, i have followed your video tutorial since the first attempt (good video by the way) but it never works it just gets stuck, very frustrating

  14. Hi everyone

I saw in tech specs of the AP51 that it supports PoE (Power over Ethernet) and was wondering if anyone has tried that route yet? I saw a PoE adapter made by Alfa for $24.99 Link and would this be the right thing to get for this device? and would there be a way to get this to power off of my laptop's ethernet port or do laptop ethernet ports not support pins 4,5 and 7,8 for power and return? Just thought it would be smart to power and use the pineapple off of one port and use what alfa gave us.

    Thanks

    Pacmandu

I don't have the answer to this but it does sound rather cool! I'd like to exploit that feature.

I hacked mine lol. I detailed some instructions in another post I cant find right now as im on my phone. Basically just cut one end off a usb cable and splice the red and black to the barrel positive and negative.

    telot

Hmmm strange thats exactly what i have here which i actually purchased its x1 usb one end and 5.5mm barrel the other side, it does appear to power the device (all the lights come on) but i can never ping it or anything like i can on other power sources...
