  1. does any one know how to find/hack the user name and passwords of the user accounts in a network

nobody is going to answer such a broad question like this. Do you watch the show? There is a wealth of information in video form (for us visual/auditory learners) I don't mean to be rude but try learning on your own then ask a more specific question when you need help.

    DIY MAN !

  2. Most likely, permissions, but also possible alternate subnets you don't have paths to reach based on your subnet mask and IP range, vlans even. If they did their job, you shouldn't be able to see much of anything except maybe the domain controller you authenticated through. If its a college workstation in a lab or such, they might not have locked things down but if say you are on with your personal laptop and can see the entire domain, thats not exactly a good thing. Careful what you trample on while walking through the forest.

Hey thanks for the reply. I am actually using a lab computer to play with net view.. so I am authenticated to the domain (haven't tried with my laptop..yet) .. hey do you know if its possible to find out how many vlans there are? Also isn't it kinda of weird that one lab on the third floor and half the data-center on the first floor AND a couple computers in a different building are on the same vlan ? or is that just sloppy networking?

  3. So the net view (or net and all its variants) command is nothing new to windows users. I've used it many times in the past and just recently used it at my college to see whats up. Now not all the computers on the college's domain were listed but among the 100+ I can view there are over 30 servers in the schools data-center listed and conveniently named I mite add. Such-as domain-controller 1, 2 ,3,4 etc.. as-well as many other test and production servers.. Does anyone know why I am able to see only a few computers on a network of 800+?

  4. I am using TFTPD and a crossover ethernet cable. I was able to boot into windows pe, I am now trying to boot backtrack 5. Dose anyone know of a pxe server program that lets you send an iso? I would rather do a dual boot than run a vm and my only flash drive I have atm is 2gb and the backtrack iso is just over 2gb

Interesting.. glad to see you were able to figure it out. I read that link to Ubuntu help as-well .. good info

  5. Hi everyone,

I would like to install the gnome 64 bit version of backtrack 5r1 on my new laptop ( dell latitude d630 4gb ram dual core 2.0ghz 500gb hdd Intel graphics) and I don't have any blank dvds's and would like to try setting up a pxe server on my desktop running windows 7 and installing backtrack 5. I was able to set up a pxe server and boot windows pe so I can install windows over pxe but what about Backtrack?

I have no experience with doing this with BT but alternatively you could always install on an old USB or run in a VM like I do.. on a side note how did you setup your PXE server? (whats it running, etc) .. thanks

  6. @OP if your looking for a program like wireshark or tcpdump then you must check out shark for root.. it's freaking awesome for a mobile app.. you can view your caps with their native reader or simply import them into wireshark or w.e you use

  7. Why don't you watch the securitytube.net and IronGeek.com videos, there are plenty of infoSec information there.

Your Absolutely Right! I've been on irongeek all week watching videos from derbycon.

@OP there's actually a good talk on Red Teaming by Raphael Mudge (creator of Armitage) he talks all about the Collegiate Cyber Defense competition

  8. I might of mentioned a while back about getting ripped off or an attempted rip off (I got my money back via PayPal) on Ebay with a Nokia E71. But I recovered data on it and was able to recover images and 3 phone numbers.

But just brought a N900 and haven't been ripped off. Was a decent guy it seems but, it's in my nature, I WILL try and recovery every time. I've found his porn clip collection :) nice.

I haven't warned him about that, I don't want to embarrass but told him if he sells any more phones he needs to secure wipe them. As he sent it to and had forgotten to remove all his contacts, phone numbers and e-mail address'. I've told him it's fine, they're safe as I'll secure delete it.

So have you found anything interesting when doing data recovery?

Once I was working on this guys PC backing up his data, I found some naked photos (actually about a dozen) .. its was pretty funny until I realized they were of his daughter lol then it was reallly funny

  9. Use VMWare ESXi server, its free and alot better.

You install it on the machine like Proxmox, but you log into it using a client, and you have awsome management tools.

From the box you have a console screen basic setting can be set so you can log on the box.

You can download virtual appliances to load on the the box as a virtual box.

    OR

Just install you're own, i just it all the time, its also great to rigrate you physical system to virtual, (to go green ;/ or just for a back up:D)

Seriously check it out i use it all the time.

    Work and at home.

Its based on a Linux kernel, its really easy to install, the only drawback is the hardware support,

Mainly produced for corporate servers. so IBM HP ect are supported.

there is desktops that can run it.

Check this link and you can see if you're hardware is supported of not.

Actually Proxmox is a hell of a lot better then VMware's free ESXi distro. ESXi is a tease. Proxmox is capable of clustering and

LIVE MIGRATION(extremely cool) .. To get these features on ESXi you need to license another server to manage your ESXi cluster

and that will run you thousands of dollars. While I do believe ESXi is a good hyper-visor, it doesn't compare to Proxmox

allowing me to do things in my garage that would never be financially possible with VMware. Thank You Proxmox and thank you

    Darren for spreading the word

  10. Hi All,

I began reading Hackin9 Magazine ever since Shannon mentioned it on a show a while back.I would love to subscribe and get physical copies of this mag but don't see anywhere on their site to subscribe, just looks like free zines for dl.. I have a sony PRS-300 but it sucks to read this mag on.. (thinking about getting a nook .. anyways does anyone actually subscribe and get this mag physically in the mail? Or does anyone know of a good cheap ereader that does mags like this good?

  11. I am also in the same situation with trying to build an esxi server for my own personal lab/home use. I work with vmware and want a esxi box at home. I know HW compatibility is a real pain.. thats why I use VM-Help for info ..great resource.. and it seems like most mobos either have a problem with nics or Disk controllers...The free esxi OS isn't exactly lacking in any additional features. When you get a license for Vcenter server then you can really use the neat features with more than one esxi host such as clustering, vmotion, HA , etc..(wish it were free). If I didn't have to install esxi at home for the knowledge, I would totally use proxmox.. infact I plan on having another hdd with proxmox on it for when I want to play with it..until I have money for more than one 64bit virtualization DT .. I'm stuck with the esxi box.. let me us know what HW you go with ..good luck

  12. Yea people i know have said that that brand is really good.

but i have a book called "Python programming for the absolute beginner" and that has challenges at the end of every chapter and i find them help full to consolidate what i have learnt.

do the o'reilly books have something like that ?

Nice ... thanks for the tip. The reviews say it all.. I've know basic , html, intermediate perl and bash scripting .. this is just the book Ive been looking for Thanks

  13. Yes there is special client-side software. :-( But it is solid and well made. (Same interface for Enterprise ESX) :-)

You download and install VMware vSphere Client from the server you installed ESXi.

Using vSphere Client you can access the virtual machines console.

    Here is vSphere

Here is a console session in vSphere

Any other questions let me know.

Sweet thanks for the info.. I'm gunna mess around with it tomorrow .. I will be PMing you, cause I'm sure I will have questions

  14. You may want to check out

    and

To see if Esxi will install and work on your server.

I have installed Esxi on 3 servers all Intel parts all run like champs.

As far as NAT on Esxi you can make a virtual switch and install a VM with Untangled (or your favorite router software) and make a virtual network.

    Have fun and good luck.

Hey Brianzimm I have been interested in setting up a esxi server for a while now.. do you know about its VDI capabilities? Is it like proxmox in which we can just dial in the machines IP and access it via vnc, rdp etc.. or is their some special client-side software that can be used?

  15. @Darren Kitchen hey have you tried installing vsphere or xenserver on proxmox? is it possible? Just installed proxmox and am limited to only one 64bit DT , wanted to get some knowledge up with VDI and lack on physical resources.. tanks

  16. Hey thanks for the replies.. I forgot to mention , yesterday when I was messing around I got the mac from my arp cache and checked it against this website >> http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/ (great webtool) , and got the vendor nortel networks.. So yea I am guessing that maybe the wireless config of the ap is disabled by wireless users..but when I get go to my gateways address I get the nortel's webgui and when I turn the linksys ap off I lose connection.. still wanna know how this network is configured.. going to try to get physical access to the network when I go back .. and btw I thought that wireless printers only broadcast as an ad-hoc netowrk? anyways Happy New Year!

  17. I think tree works in nix aswell, or ls -lR in root will give you the same effect..that is to simulate "work" at work when your manager walks by...lol

  18. it must of been damn close to the pc and the edge of the table, looked to me like it was modded into the side panel..(sigh) just wishful thinking I guess..

  19. Most wireless devices like a printer for instance broadcasts its SSID. It could be that the device you are trying to connect to may be a printer or another device that is not an access point at all.

I am connecting to a free public open Linksys ap and just curious as to why I am getting a nortel web login , originally was just trying to probe the network to see what model and os version I was connecting to but that will be another day. Thanks for the reply..
