  1. Thanks for the share, I have been thinking about doing some modifications to mine with an internal usb hub and an SD card port as well. I also was going to be working on implementing the ubertooth into the Pineapple and was even thinking about builing a module perhaps, for the Ubertooth to be utilized.

but great job for the mods you did and thanks for sharing, I would be interested in any upgrades you do in the future so please share any updates with us, it always good to see people doing hardware mods instead of only software mods.

  2. anyone please..

Please have patience for responses, the reason u probably didnt get a response is most people are running Mark version routers not the orginal Fonera routers. To explain the internet should be shared though a computer with ICS enabled this provides the internet connection to the "victims" of the Fonera

so the connections should look like this

    Victim >> [ (Wlan0 Fonera) .. (Eth0 Fonera) ] >> [ (Eth0 ICS'd computer) (Wlan or other Internet connection ICS computer) ] >>>>Internet

I hope this helps you get your Fonera setup, I highly encourage you to upgrade to a Mark version router, I own a Fonera and now a Mark IV and while the Foneras are cool and they work the Mark version routers definitely havae many many improvements in hardware and software, the modules add so much functionality its not even funny when comparing the routers. Anyhow hope I have helped you finish your setup, if not let me know and Ill help as I can.

  3. Hello,

sorry if this has been discussed previously but I have a used the Fon for a while now I just got a Mark IV, props to the development team btw I love all the new features, hardware, and modules :).

Anyhow I see that my Mark IV is connecting to http://cloud.wifipineapple.com/ip.php

It apparently reports my ip and I was wondering why this info is being collected, I have read the Pinenumbers forum post but this information was not mentioned in that post. What is the purpose of this connection, If I update my host file to not connect to wifipineapple.com is this going to stop any functionality besides updates and downloading the modules?

Thanks for your time and explaination of this functionality

  4. You could stop by and see the first dead drops :D If you dont know what dead drops are its a file sharing process in response to the lawsuits over p2p downloads. The guy that started the idea lives in New York since then there have been many following his footsteps you can get the map of all deaddrop locations on the site. check out this site for more info

    http://deaddrops.com/

and make sure your careful to scan the files to make sure they are malicious

Whatever you do decide to do make sure you have fun man!

  5. Hello call me Biggs. have been researching a few sites and im trying to find a few things out about what a fon with jasager and what it is fully capable of. what i mean by this is does it receive wifi then make its own network out of this. or you need to receive the wifi thro the computer then send thro ethernet in to the fon. im prity sure i know how it works like with the accepting of the computers probes blah blah blah ect. but please direct me to a tut tell me how to set up the dhcp or w.e

i have never seen a post explaining about this.

What Jasager does while running on a router is spoofs other network names making the connecting client connect to your Jasager driven router instead of the normal network. From there you probably want to give them internet so they dont think anything is wrong. you can hook it right to your regular router that servs your internet connection OR even more interesting have it go to a computer that shares its internet connection. This computer need to have two ethernet cards one to connect to your internet and the other to connect wired to the Fonera or other router running Jasager. you need to setup ICS on this computer the procedure to do this depends on what OS your running but there are plenty of posts about setting this up in these forums. Hope this clarifies what you need to do.

  6. If your just looking for a program to connect to open networks check out Auto AP. You put the program on your router and it will automatically connect you to the strongest open wifi connection in the area. you can also set some advanced settings about which ones to connect to and also make your home network the default if its in the area. Google AutoAP hope that helps

  7. what is the plug is needed to plug in to the pineapple... and can it be picked up at like radio shack? i am really wanting to make one like this....

The size of the power plug has been discussed in this post

    http://www.hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15811

Furthermore yes the power adapter is available from RadioShack I dont have the part number but mine was from radio shack why dont you take it into radioshack with you and tell them to match it? that would be the easiest way if they have it onhand. goodluck with your project

  8. Fon just sent me a newsletter for the Fon Simpl router just wondering if anyone knows the chipset of these new routers. I was wondering if they were able to be flashed with the jasager firmware? anyone who has specs or has tried to flash these Ide like to know thx. There spec page doesnt tell much info

    http://corp.fon.com/en/products/simpl/

Lame that it doesnt work but thx for the feedback Darren <<S>>

  9. I made a AP profile in windows named "test" which is unsecure, reset my network connection, but nothing came up with the name test.

Ok a couple things first is the computer connecting at all? like using a different SSID?

If you are using windows XP look for a connected SSID that is a random string and check the MAC address

windows XP is strange because when it is not connected to an AP it tries to connect to SSID's with random names

if Jasager is in BLACKLIST mode then it will spoof these strange SSID's

you can try putting jasager in WHITELIST mode and adding the SSID of test into the list

If you still can't get it to connect try going into the settings and check "connect even if this network is not broadcast"

    This will surely work

Also note that if you are using IE then you will have problems IE for some reason doesnt update the status of the router the fix is to use Firefox

hope this helps let us know what happens

  10. If you can get redboot access you can simply start over however if you cant then you need to move to a serial cable to debrick it Digi has a good tutorial on making a cheap one on his site check it out if your gonna need the serial cable http://www.digininja.org/fon_serial/

hope you can get it back up as this is a real fun project and has many benifits.

Let us know how things progress

  11. yes I prefer wired but even wired can be picked up by devices that work like the camera hunter however they are quit spendy. I believe it uses a form of van Eck phreaking that allows such a thing nonetheless the technology is out there to those whom have the correct resources and information.

Thank you Whig for your information and sont drink all the coffee I need some too :-)

  12. I just made this cable and have had no problems however it really depends on the laptop and the outpur amprage of the usb ports but most newer laptops have increased the amprage due to the extensive use of usb devices and most will run the jasager but I would keep the amount of devices connected via usb to the minimum number that you can to make sure you dont overload the usb port. Mine has been doing great with just the fon running via usb. It makes it much more portable and has many benifits and doesnt seem to drain my battery to much quicker I was going to do a full test as to how much faster it actually drains my battery however the results will vary depending on the laptop circuitry, the battery, and the age of the battery as well.

  13. You can upgrade or add packages via SSH you can either connect it to a router as a DCHP client or you need it connected to an ICS'ed machine. The limited connection message is usually due to improperly configured internet connection sharing. If you have it running through an ICS'ed machine check your settings Hope this helps

  14. If you didnt change the ip address from its default it will be 192.168.1.1

To hook it up thru a laptop so that traffic coming in thru the fon is directed thru a laptop to the internet you must have Internet Connetion Sharing or ICS installed and running on your laptop there are posts on the forums as to how to do this

    hope this helps

  15. I should have been more specific, this is the bit I was questioning. Can a system be designed to use a specific rating and lose performance if a higher rated antenna is attached?

Yes however a system designed around a 0db antanae could very well function on say maybe a 6 db antanae just fine If you increase or decrease it from the original antanaes db rating too much you will then see the difference alot more. Typically the db rating is where it is at due to FCC regulations because using a higher db rating will increase its range and FCC regulations state that the device can only transmit so far and increasing the antanae to much can be against the regulations they have in place ( talking USA obviously ) however as stated before at a certain point it does effect the signal and causes the signal to be dropped at various times.

most people see an increase in signal using a bigger antanae mainly because it is higher up in the air whereas using the origanal antanae on a pole thus rising the antanae to the same height as the bigger antanae usually will work better. a slighty bigger antanae may actually increase the performance if not to much bigger however your may be transmitting at a power level over that of the FCC regulations but typically it wont be at such a higher lvl that anyone will complain depending on where you live.

Hope this helps a bit more than my last post

  16. Also, if the signal was stronger, would I effectively 'beat' other APs?

If the machine is already connected to a network then the fon/jasager starts and wishes to use that same name the machine which was previously must be disconnected from the network then try to recoonect to it then the fon should pick it up. Since both are transmitting and the same distance from the connecting computer then the fon will "beat" the other AP because it is based on which AP completes the handshake with the connecting computer first. The fon transmitts faster than other AP's do the setting is called "fully-auto" on the webif for the fon and can be set lower but in the case that it is it will decrease the chance of the FON completing the handshake first

As for the antanae are you sure it had the same db rating using an antanae with a different db rating could severly decrease its performance as the circuit is designed to run on it also adding more or using less wire for the antanae wire will change its resistance thus effect the properties of the antanae Its actually pretty complicated Ide suggest researching antanaes
