  1. I have the Dell Diagnostic CD and WinPe running on my drive.

    Dell diagnostics (use the iso)

    title Dell Diagnostics
    find --set-root /delldiags.iso
    map --mem /delldiags.iso (hd32)
    map --hook
    root (hd32)
    chainloader (hd32)

And Winpe (extracted to the root of the drive)

    title WinPE
    chainloader /boot/bootmgr
    Grub2

It may run differentially for someone else, I made my multiboot with this which recently popped up on Lifehacker.

  2. This episode seemed kinda thin...

But I would like to mention that on enterprise dell laptops, you can have built in encryption out of the box.

There are a few things to install, but the way I understand it works is all the data is already encrypted on the drives and the drives already know the encryption key.

You can remove the key (and add a password) and achieve the same effect in about 15 minutes.

The next time I do this for work I'll see if I can remember some names.

  3. The SSD is would be split up into two partitions, one for the OS, the other for some databases. Because SSD's can read randomly really fast it would be great to have a database for an online shop or somethind on it. And with the OS on it, even the OS will become really fast, and there would be at least 120GB left for Databases.

Why doesn't anybody else included SSD's into his rig?

Personally I don't because ssd's are up there with the bleeding edge hard drives (1.5tb+), I would prefer to wait awhile for them to mature, maybe once they have been out there for two or three years I'd try it in a server, but not until then.

  4. Stock coolers have gotten a bad wrap, in most instances they are quality products that are more than sufficent to cool even a mildly overclocked proc.

I still like being able to show off my Zalman though.

  5. Honestly I have no idea what I am doing here, but this is what I would spec out: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWi...Number=15826527

It's a mini-atx desktop motherboard and case I could throw in a closet or something while it does its thing.

Possibly throw a VM or two on it to mess with (At least mess around with a Steam game server) and storage.

My idea is to boot off of the removable CF card in the build instead of a usb drive that floats in the case.
