  1. ...all that matters is if the tool sees the drive or not.

Again, DO NOT access the flash-drive with explorer, diskmanager or anything else !

second :If you feel you are close to cracking it I won't take all the fun away from you (yet) :)

Well, the tool doesn't seem to see the drive. I don't have Explorer or Disk Manager or anything open - just the tool - and nothing appears in the list of things connected to any ports. If I unplug and plug the drive in again, nothing changes (except ChipGenius refreshes to show the drive is gone, then back again, as +FABULK). I have tried starting the tool with the drive plugged in, and starting without it plugged in, but nothing seems to make a difference.

I am ready for you to take all the fun away... because I'm not having all that much fun :(

  2. Try this little tool...

Thanks for the help. I got all the way up to getting and using the appropriate tool, but now I'm at a loss of what to do to actually fix the drive.

I used the tool to ID the chip:

Device Name: ++[H:][G:]+USB Mass Storage Device(USB Device)(USB Device)

    PnP Device ID: VID = 1307 PID = 0165

    Serial Number: 080919011942B8

    Revision: 0.00/0.00

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

    Chip Vendor: USBest

    Chip Part-Number: UT165

    Product Vendor: (N/A)

    Product Model: (N/A)

    Tools on Web: http://bbs.mydigit.cn/read.php?tid=27876

Then I followed the link to http://bbs.mydigit.cn/read.php?tid=27876 and I think it tells me I need the tool UT165_1.65.10.0 to fix this drive. I got links to:

    附件: 1.65.10.0.part1.rar (1024 K) 下载次数:2259

    http://bbs.mydigit.cn/job.php?action=downl...6&aid=27139

    附件: 1.65.10.0.part2.rar (854 K) 下载次数:1217

    http://bbs.mydigit.cn/job.php?action=downl...6&aid=27140

Clicking those links takes me to a page where I have to register to download them, but I can't seem to register, because Google translation won't translate the registration page properly for me.

So I searched for the tool at http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...picY6jzMYyJeuFg as you suggested, and it was there (called MP TOOL UT165 (UT163) 1.65.10.0).

I downloaded the tool and installed it. However, it installs some driver that makes both the CD and normal parts of the USB drive disappear from within Explorer and Disk Manager. ChipGenius changes to report the drive as:

    Device Name: +FABULK

The MP Tool just shows a list of ports with no other information.

I tried uninstalling the driver and then my drives reappear, but I still can't see anything in the MP Tool. Reinstalling the driver just removes the 2 drives from Explorer and Disk Manager again, and changes the device name back to +FABULK in ChipGenius.

I feel I am so close to cracking this drive! Any ideas on what I am doing wrong, or how to actually make the MP Tool do what I need it to do?

  3. I have the same problem - USB stick I got at a conference has a CD partition with promotional stuff on it. I want to merge the partitions and format the drive.

    According to USBDeview:

Device Name: USB Mass Storage Device

    Serial Number: 080919011942b8

    Vendor ID: 1307

    Product ID: 0165

    USB Class: 08

    USB SubClass: 06

    USB Protocol: 50

Any ideas how to do it?
