Well as far as file backup and ftp (I have been using the Hawking HMPS1U print server as an ftp device to flash media storage) solutions I already have those covered. The original idea was to make a very small forum on there that is only accessible to me and a few friends as apposed to joining a larger community. Also I was wanting one just to play with web development in general. Been thinking about trying to make a MUD too. Plus, the smaller the better. I am slowly burying myself in electronics and my personal collections of different sorts.

Let's say I want to run my own personal web page form my own server at home. One that only about a dozen people will ever visit at a time. However I want to use as little electricity as possible and I don't want to use one of my current machines on my network. Are than any low voltage embedded solutions on the market I could use?

Ok figured out what I was doing wrong. Miss read the writeln as writein. Then I tried typeing in readln instead of readout to make the console window wait for a key press to close. In the tutorials I read it did say readout though.

I haven't played with Pascal in a long time, but I remembered it fondly. So I decided to dl Dev-Pascal and start messing with it again. I start up writing some code for a prog that just spits out text and what not. I get errors from writeIn and readOut? The compiler errors say identifier not found writein/readout? I look up some some tutorials and all the ones I find tell me I am right. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

It just seems really weird that they don't make one that can use USB drives. Unless it takes more power to run a thumb drive than the other solid state media.

So you just want to power the player from USB?
Easy, find out what the voltage output on the batteries is, if it's 5v just solder a USB connector straight in there.
No. I have my entire music collection (for the time being until it outgrows it) on a 32 GB Patriot Xporter USB thumb drive. I would like a player that allows me to plug said thumb drive into it and be able to play music directly off of the thumb drive.
The comment about the the power unit was in reference to the Creative MuVo players which don't have anyway of plugging a thumb drive into them cause they are basically and mp3 player/thumb drive. It comes in two parts. The thumb drive/MP3 player and a small unit it plugs into that takes one AAA battery and will power the Muvo player through its female USB-A recepticle.Here is a pic of what I am talking about ->
The other versions are just MP3 player thumb drive hybrids just for the sake of quick transferring songs from PC to the player without extra cables.
I hope that all made sense cause I just got off work and I am real groggy so I may have just posted jibberish.

Well the problem is that the part that takes a USB input is just a power source. It is the part that has the batteries.
I am starting to wonder how hard it would be to build something like what I am wanting with an arduino kit. Problem being I have never messed with arduino let alone pic controllers.

I have one of those for my parents and the model I have doesn't allow you to plug a thumb drive into it, but it does come apart and allow you to use it like a thumb drive. What model of the Muvo are you referring to?

I am looking for an MP3 player that allows you to plug in a thumb drive and play songs off of it. Does this exist?

When the computer I need to run the UVNC server starts up it complains about the password not being set. Yet I set it several times already and the bloody thing isn't staying set. Anyone else run into this problem?

Well if you look on the page of that board vector mentioned ( http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/...less_mobile.htm ) it does support WOL. I am assuming it keeps a small bit of power to said board and it just sits there waiting for a the magic signal.

Skip "hello world" since it is the absolute first step no matter what.
You can make lists for different languages if you wish.

Some how I can't help but doubt it with the prices they have there. Alot of those seem perfect for what I would want though.
