I have a first gen xbox which I softmodded and installed XBMC on. It works _really_ well as a media centre and I love it. It only cost €20 and it provides huge amounts of functionality. If you want you can run it as a desktop using XDSL, or you can use it as a server running xbox-linux. You can replace the hard drive if you want for both the server and media centre uses.

it looks like an impressive step up from the DS and the lite. I look forward to seeing what homebrew communities will be able to do with it

Someone introduced me yesterday to the hobby/concept of geocaching (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching for anyone who's interested). It seems a pretty neat hobby to do some weekends. I was wondering if anyone in the hak5 community does it, and if so have they any interesting stories/opinions on it? I'd love to hear them.

if there's enough interest then we might as well try to get some unofficial LAN party's going throughout the months and then have the official one every now and then. I'd be up for a bit of gaming with the hak5 community. anyone else?

this seems a very interesting project, I'd love to see it working on laptops or even other routers, it would be very interesting to see what sorts of things people could do with it

all great suggestions, it would be nice if this idea became reality. I've tried wine but its just a bit messy for me.

Just a suggestion that for the next LAN party, could we play an open source game instead of something like CSS which is windows only? Its just that not all of us run a windows gaming machine which we can use for the LAN parties and there are plenty of good open source games to chose from such as True Combat Elite, Cube, Tremulous.
I'd love to join the gaming fun and I'm sure others are in the same position as I am.

to use the DWL-G122 you have to compile the usb-drivers edition from SVN to get it to work.
The project moved a little while ago, due to new laws in Germany which make it illegal, and so the developer had to move. As far as I know everything is moved now, so you should be able to get the code and compile it.
Once you have it compiled, just copy it to your Applications folder and launch it.
Now it work nicely

Googling techknow gives me a load of random websites, (for obvious reasons)
however googling my older handle (gonzagaboy) gives my twitter page, a twittervision page on me, a Revision3 forums profile I don't remember signing up for and some IRC transcripts from various channels I'v visited.

The NXE update

I just installed the NXE update on my 360 and I have to say I am very impressed with it. It looks really nice and I think MS have for once done themselves proud with it. Running games from HDD is a really welcome addition to the console, it makes it so much quieter and I found it to have very similar load times to the DVD if not a little bit faster. No longer will there be a jet engine taking off every time you want to play something.
Group private chat is also going to be a very nice addition. That along with party migration from game to game I think will make a huge difference.
Anyone else got opinions on it?
