  1. For those of you having trouble formatting your USB drive with NTFS in Windows XP, do this:

    Go to Device Manager and set the policy of the USB Stick device to "Optimize for Performance". The default is to optimize for Quick Removal, which restricts you to the FAT filesystem.

    I tried MaxDamage's method of editing the first byte and formatting, the drive in NTFS, but for some reason the format changes the hex back to EB from AB. Maybe a way windows formats the drive? I will try formatting the drive under linux and see if that helps.

    Edit: Formatting it through linux also changes it back to EB. How do we keep it from changing back?
