  1. What more can I say? My user name says it all: I Luv EDM (Electronic Dance Music). :)

    My favourite EDM (sub)genres are:

House, Progressive House, Dark Prog, Dark Tribal, Tech House, Tech Trance, Psy Trance, Acid Techno, Tribal Techno.

I love going raving/clubbing till late in the mornings listening to DJs like Sasha, John Digweed, STEVE LAWLER, Bad Boy Bill, Armand Van Helden, DJ Vibe, Satoshi Tomiie, Sander Kleinenberg, Green Velvet, spin at 125 to 130 BPM.
I dig this sort of EDM stuff:

Studied CompSci in Undergrad. Worked in Web Development, Tech Support, IT Consulting, and Business Development roles. Not really a drinker, but enjoy the gooood green stuff that's sold everywhere in Colorado and Washington State and soon Uruguay. LOL!

BIG Open Source user and pusher!

Love: Linux (Debian variants), the BSDs, Open Data Kit for mobile data collection, Kobo Forms, MySQL/MariaDB, Web2Project, OpenCart and many more apps/tools that are not on the tip of my tongue.

Haven't coded in a while but I can read code. Looking to get into either Nimrod, Rust or D to stay current with new language tech -- maybe even Go.

Have done coding before in VB/ASP, JavaScript, C/C++, VAX Macro Assembler, Pascal. But a little rusty only because I was doing less development stuff and traveling/exploring another continent for almost a decade.

Looking to get back into Pascal via the FreePascal/Lazarus IDE project since I got started with Turbo Pascal. :-)

  2. "At least it produces portable code." Is usually the next comment I hear. Really, I have lost count of the number of times that I have been trying to run a Java app only to find it complain that I am using to wrong JVM or runtime environment. Seriously , in my experience this portable language isn't very portable at all. I guess I have been spoilt by having scripts (Perl, Python, etc) run on both windows and *nix boxes without any complaints (Even a missing module is a simple case of installing just that module, not an entire new runtime environment which then has to be kept seperate from the other ones on the machine).

Keep your eyes peeled on the the Lazarus/FreePascal (Object Pascal) project, which is basically Delphi IDE open sourced! Lots of good stuff already and more goodies coming. You write once and compile EVERYWHERE. Not bytecode, but fast executables. Next major release allegedly will allow your code to run in JVM. Interesting times for coders indeed.

  3. It's a HUGE Op System. With all my little extras installed it's taking up over 13GB of my limited 32GB of SSD space. Point Linux 2.3 and SolydX only used up around 5GB after I installed all my extra stuff like Clementine, Clam, LibreOffice, Cheese, ect.

Frank, how do you compare SolydX to Point Linux 2.3?? I've read great things about SolydX & SolydK but I kinda like MATE a little bit more than Xfce.

  4. Linux>Mac>Windows, LOL

I've also loaded up the Compiz packages and now can do some of the cool effects when I open and close windows and when I switch desktops.

I just figured since Darren was so stoked on Mint MATE that he'd want to give Point Linux a look.

    Linux 4 Life.

I also played with the Mint MATE live-usb and I prefer Point Linux. It has an air of stability while being very light on resources. It detected all my hardware including a Huawei E303 3G modem when I travel. I'm seriously impressed!

  5. So has anyone else given Point Linux a try? Just wonder since it's a totally awesome Linux Distro but no one seems to be posting that they're giving it a try or not. Not like you'd have anything to lose. UNetbootin + Point Linux .iso = Live USB that you can boot to and give it a look. If you like it it's easy enough to install or you can even dual boot with another Distro if you want to keep your current Distro.

Frank, I have been trying out various distros via live-usb stick and Point Linux has made a mark on me - along with CrunchBang. But I feel Point Linux has a nicer desktop (for new users). I'm really impressed with MATE. Of course, major props go out to the Peter, the Debian Wheezy team and the MATE desktop team. I will be installing this distro on my friends slooow netbooks if they're ready to break up with Windows. :-)
