  1. Might want to take a look at these to see if they can help

Just be careful when trying to sound proof your computer. Heat is already an issue and doing this can sometimes make it an even harder obstacle to deal with.

Also, just to be on the safe side I would go ahead an backup your HDs just in case there is something going wrong with them as H@L0_F00 suggested. Even if they are working fine now they will go out at some point, so practice good backup strategies.

    Good luck B)

thanks i'm looking into it...and i do backup my work to 1 external server the rest i do plan to have a backup system but it's hard to backup 1TB when i'm looking to another 1TB hd for media too..

and i monitoring the temperatures too.

instead of all this, just get some rubber grommets or peices of rubber to insulate where your hdds are contacting the metal on your case. THAT is where all the sound comes from (or your case is falling apart... had that happen before myself... yeeeaahhh...)

the rubber peices that i found on my quest didn't seem that would gonna make a big difference..and i know it's about the vibrations of disk touching in the case that's why i tried to put the held on by a couple of elastics.

  2. When a drive is failing you will hear noises regularly but when reading or writing data will cause more noise to occur. Try to read or write a file or something to see if the noise escalates. If it does then your drive is getting ready to die on you. And you're sure it's the drives right? Not a fan or something?

yeah i'm sure it's the drives...i have been search for all the noises and i'm trying to stop each one individually! And now it's the harddrives...

the make almost the same noise from the moment the computer boots..or at least they don't make a very noticible difference!

  3. This might be able to help you out http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php. When a drive is making any amount of noise and vibrating like you say it's usually a precursor to a HDD fail. I can't stress enough how important it is for you to back up your stuff ASAP

thanks for your help but the drives don't do any odd noise they just make enough noise to someone on other room hear... and i want to reduce it because i want to leave it up 24/7. the noise is the same since i got them all but it's a lot of noise to be in a bedroom..that's my problem.

ps: thanks for the link this will be very handy ;)

  4. You're experiencing a drive about to die :( you should image and/or back up everything you have on them ASAP. And your English isn't bad :)

i don't think so the drives are less than 3 years at max and S.M.A.R.T. says that almost everything is very good on every hard drive.

  5. so i have 3 hard drives...and they make a lot of noise and vibrations and i'm trying to reduce both things without buying anything... but i dont have space to put them suspended.

any ideas on how to make this happen?

    ps:sorry for my bad english...

  6. I'd recommend changing it to magnetic strips. Much harder to pull the data off a card without it's owner when the attacker needs physical access.

yeah...i know...that was the old system but they changed it...i'm just a student making a voting system for the school...

Take a lesson from Diebold. The lesson being that electronic voting systems are a pretty bad idea if people are allowed to use them.

Combining RFID and electronic voting is a disaster of an idea (before it's even been designed). If you are forced to use this system as per the course work, you need to document how insecure RFID is and how it should not be used for any thing where security is paramount. Might want to also mention that the current US 'government standard' electronic voting machines where a disaster and that the paper based system is fine unless the hardware the software runs on is redesigned to actually be secure, I'm thinking along the lines of alarm triggers, software with hardware triggers that detects potential tampering and is able to physically disable the machine (without destroying currently stored data).

i know that is a pontential disaster... for the project's approval i'm counting on the fotos and names that appear everywhere on a group of persons that will check the identity and for being a small school (compared to what i think of the US schools) e should have like 500 students that can vote...and every card has an image printed by the school and really in that school nobody would try to do that tons of work studding the system...

the teacher that will give my grade it's a math teacher so it's no big deal...i just need to present the system working has i tell that it would be working...then i get my A+ and maybe when i get time to do it i will try to get a better system at least one width less found flaws...

PS:i realized that i may have the question in the wrong place ( i think it should be on the application & codding) and i'm sry for the bad english

  8. an RF card (chip) reader and a magnetic card reader are two different things that work in different ways.

correct me if i'm wrong the rf card has a circuit in it that activates when in range of the card reader by a magnetic field...right?

and the magnetic one is the one with the black bar..right?

  9. so ... i'm working on a project that requires me to write a program to read the student number from a magnetic card and send it to the mysql...

i wrote the program in vb6 it was told to me that the card reader was like a keyboard so the program that i wrote its a keylogger that reads only the numbers sent to the computer by the device and the connects to mysql and do the job...so the problem is that the magnetic card reader doesn't act like the keyboard and does not send the number...at least i've tried to make something show up by reading cards but the devide bips and nothing happen...does somebody know how to use it or can point me to the right direction i'm running out of time and i really need this working  :???:

    (sorry the bad english)

    thanks in advance

  11. Plan and a half Metatron. Was going to do a newbie questions section but the Questions section already seemed to cover that.

I think it works better as it’s on section, not just questions but everything that is noob related. Just make sure no one flames and people will use it.

that maybe good but i dont see noobs as a problem...unless if they are too many asking without searching...but if they aren't too many "we" can "educate" them to search first and ask later...!

  12. the skiddies will disappear one day...and in that day the internet will be a better place... until then...

I so wish for that day to grace us soon

Hak.5 would be dead if that happened. I would say at least 95% of the user’s/watchers would be categorised as a skiddie.

    True...*sighs*

true... but maybe hak5 can turn that skiddies into hackers or at least make them see that be skiddie sucks and that is stupid...

Never going to happen, for every 100 “skiddie†only 1 or 2 will ever move past that phase, they lose interest and move on to something else. Hak.5 is an entertaining show, but it’s very much targeted at “noobs†with most of them being a “skiddieâ€.

It’s takes effort and time to learn a language, develop an understanding and want more out of what there doing, instead of just getting bragging rights.

Hak.5 gives you a brief overview on a area that could be seen as entertaining, they do not go into depth or into more complex areas, as they would kill there ratings and they would not be where they are today. I also doubt they would move forward as a show/ production company if they did.

They do attract a few advanced users, but they are mainly drawn in by the cast and the humour they infuse into each show.

yeah maybe you ar right...

  14. If all it is is a lan party then why go to so much trouble? Just set up a share on one of the computers which people can put things into and take them.

Even better you could make it a FTP server and then you can do some nifty things.

i could do that but i don't have enough space on any of my machines...

but i can talk with the sponsor....

    thnks stingwray

  15. its not that what i wanted...

i will administrate a lan party and in order to the users share their files i was thinking in put a p2p server like emule to the users connect into...

    anyway tnks sparda
