but now my only question is

will the VPN gateway work if i had multiple subnets on the open vpn gateway turtle user

    for example

    10.0.1.10/24

    192.168.1.1/24

    10.1.10.1/24

if am constantly moving between offices and dont want to reconfigure the client.ovpn file for turtle all the time

    will having multiple addresses work

i have tried to configure it but had no luck with it any help will be greatly appreciated .

  2. Thanks for the reply I already have opendns but have no clue on how to Mac pass the devices I want to be unrestricted could you plss explain further my router is a netgear wndr3700

If you know of a known device that can perform what am lookingfor please let me know

  3. That's what I be done so far but the problem comes when they're friends come around with they're devices and I also have a few employees on the barn so that makes it so complicated that I have yet find a solution has anyone tryed monOwall or a router with built in parental controls?

  4. Hi there guys I'm looking for some help on parental control

Basically I have a house with a separate garage and a barn all 3 far apart

And want to have wifi on all 3 but with parental control

So my problem is how can I do this

My first idea is to have my main router on the house and one access point on each of the other 2 locations with open DNA on the main router my problem then became that all computers and devices are restricted and I woul like to have a few unrestricted like my own laptop and the wife's tablet and our phones

And everyone else that comes visit including my 4 kids will be restricted anywhere they go ????????

Tus is where I got stuck

    Any help is greatly appreciated

  5. hi there i am a one man company with little IT experience but lots of will to learn and have my own little construction company

where i host a windows 2008 server now the problem

i have been running my office from home but its time to move

so i decided to move the server to my job site where the problem i would like to keep it backed up at home and at the office

so my first thought of aproaching this is like this.

1 clone drives with acronis (c: and d:) and keep it on a hard drive in case i mest up

2 install hamachi on the server (win server 2008) to create a frame work relay VPN

3 install the back up computer witch will run WIN 7 ---- don't have any clue on whats best.

4 create a back up plan with schedule with the built in windows server utility.

    now my question is

does any one have a better solution than this i thought about OVPN ?

map a drive and have acronis true image backup to a network drive

one more thing i want to keep is the ability of my users to be able to connect from anywhere to the server on the road witch hamachi does pretty good

and me not been a experience user will need a lot of help with on the OVPN side.

any input is more than welcome

    Thanks in advance.....

  6. I used to work for a company that installed WiFi into hotels and the way we did it was one of two...

we either would put in a weatherproof box on a pole outside of each side of the hotel an access point which was powered by Power Over Ethernet and a Unidirectional Parabolic Antenna much like what you see Darren use in the

In cases where this was too costly or just plain won't work because of hurricane proofing (See Florida Hotels), depending on the size of the hotel there were 1 to 2 access points in the drop ceiling of each floor, each with High Gain Omni-directional Antennas (i forget the dB sorry >.>)

basically if when you get off the elevator in the hotel it says left to go to this block of rooms, and right to go to that block, we would put an access point at the halfway mark between the elevator and end of the hall.

Again everything running with Power Over Ethernet, and the cabling looked something like this

Closet/Main Switch ----Ethenet----> PoE Injector-----> cable run to drop ceiling into WAP

    Hope this helps

p.s. If the hotel is a circle check your signal strength with one access point in the hall first and go to the other end to see if it is feasible, if not add a second set of WAPs (ie:\\ do your homework)

edit: I forgot to mention, do not use extenders as GuardMoony said, they are really not a proper solution.

Thank you all for ou're input

so here is what i am proposing to do

1st floor 2 access points connected by POE

2nd floor 2 access points connected by POE

main IT room from modem to cisco Wireless router to POE switch (D-LINK DGS-1008P 8-PORT GIGABIT PoE SWITCH) 802.3af

to all four of the AP (EnGenius EAP300 WIRELESS-N HIGH POWER LONG-RANGE ACCESS POINT)

    so a few more questions

do you guys think this are good enough? would you recommend smething else?

am i going to be able to power all 4 of the access points with that switch?

the switch and all the AP are 802.3af compatible but since this is the first time i do this i dont know if i need a POE injector or i need to separete the power on the Access point side and put a 12 volt dc adapter or will they be powered by the ethernet connector???

thank you all and please forgive my ignorance.
