  1. OUCH $30? That and the guy didn't email me when they were in stock... makes me not want to do business with him anymore.

one of the only sites i've found them on... I was disappointed at the price tag, and the fact they have no more 121's in only the pcb.... Mr-Protocol, have you found any cheaper?

  2. I'm currently using a dell mini 1010... you could find eeepc's on cl for around $70 - $125..... If you're looking for something with looks, power, small size. you should check out the asus 1215n..... that would be my netbook, if i was to get one..... When buying netbooks, try to stay away from the the poulsbo GMA 500 video driver......(trust me)

  3. I disagree with memberships being paid, or a paid membership having download privileges.

The hakshop works because there's a premium and profit generated by providing the.projects, and the markup is on the gear itself, not the code.

I support the community in a number of ways:

    - I buy products from hakshop (a LOT of stuff)

    - I also build products from the OSS provided out here and purchasing hardware elsewhere

    - I use the products and provide feedback to devs and assistance to others

    - I watch the show religiously, as well as other Rev3 shows

    - I frequent the forums and interact with others to.create and be a part of the incredible community we are so lucky to have.

Charging a premium to access downloads of OSS-based firmware does some negative things:

    - it goes against the OSS spirit

    - it creates a situation where people are shut out unless they pay for the downloaded

    - it will get shared regardless, creating a situation where code will be distributed outside the.forums and/or current distribution methods

These devs are doing this because they love what.they.do. they love the.community, and love the spirit of OSS.

Personally, I do both DIY, and support hakshop. I do not want to pay to download code/firmware, but I have no.problem donating money.to devs. There is a distinct difference, and I believe the.current situation is optimal for everyone, including the community.in general.

Paying for forum access jusy to download firmware, when we already have many.means to.support will have a significant chilling effect on the community,.the incredible projects theh.bring to us all, and these forums.

Forgot to explain in my post when i agreed with csystem.... as far as paying just browse, post, and stuff on the forum now.. but what i'm talking about is like "hey, premium account" where as... you cant change colors of your, get a " I supported HAK5" tag, something along those lines.. not just a flat out, " hey you wanna join hak5 community you have to pay... i've been on forums with systems like this........ where as anyone can join and post for for....... but to change you username color, or have the " I support hak5" tag... would be a fee.....that wouldnt be a bad idea... it'll be the user choice to donate if they want...

  4. Greetings all:

This very subject has also been on my mind. I am an ardent DIYer and have built two pineapples to date.

The hardware for the MK4 **is** available if you know where to look, and I don't want to undercut any of the hard work of the devs and the

hakshop by posting details. Yes I am going to build a MK4 from an OM2P (not the same HW as the MK4) when the fw becomes available but I will have to wait until that time.

Darren and the devs have put in a lot of work and should be compensated for their work, I agree.

But here's my dilemma: Buying at retail a fully plug and play unit has no interest to me. Part of the learning and fun is to DIY.

That being said, might I make a suggestion??

I would suggest, Darren that you offer "memberships" to this forum, the benefit to joining is to contribute to hosting, show costs, and hopefully a portion could go to the devs. And members would get access to download the latest firmware releases for the projects hosted on this forum.

I would gladly pay for such a membership, or just make a "donation".

That way the DIYers would still pay their fair share toward the costs of running this forum and the production of the (fun) show.

    Just my 02.

Thanks Darren, Seb, Robin and anyone else I forgot to mention!

I agree with this... now that I've built a mk3 on my own..... I can't wait to the firmware for the mk4 is out...... I learned a few ssh commands, and a few other things.... Their are things from the hackshop I would buy... such as a rubber ducky, ubertooth..... Now... there's many ways to support hak5 that i think some people do not realize........ not just by monetary support..... if we didn't "watch" the show, visit the website, forums... revision3 wouldn't still sponsoring them....( note: they're the longest show to be with revision3 atm )...

Not to count hak5 income, but i look at it like this..

alfa router:$25 maybe less, as i'm sure they pay wholesale price

    ethernet cable:$5

flashing firmware:$25 (about the same price to flash an xbox360 or fix rrod)

Shipping & Recieving:$25 (processing orders, and shipping timely)

^ that's just how i look at it.... which i'm pretty sure it could be wrong....

  5. That works out I already purchased one this was so that if for some reason I leave it at home the right wireless card is onboard

I'm pretty sure, swapping cards out will work well on a linux box... As far as windows go, you'll probably have to download drivers......

  6. just wondering... some of you guys have the first fon, second one, mk3, and now getting the mk4.... what's what you do with the old harware..... I have a mk3, and plan on getting a mk4... plan on keeping the mk3 at home hooked up to desktop , and the mk4 goes into the hackpack....... :)

Can't wait until it's released though...... today is friday. might be a lucky day....
