Episode 5x03
in Hak5
so the trivia question was in dots and dashes (morse code), and when you decrypted the morse code, the question was: What does this and Shannon have in common? At first I was thinking was too literally about the word "this", but after I realized they were talkin about the code, my brain put together that Shannon's last name was Morse and the code was Morse.
If Darren sees this, I was wondering if you've emailed me yet, I was typing kinda fast and I think I might have mispelled my email address :P
I got confused by the large and small dots

Advanced RAR Password Recovery http://www.elcomsoft.com/arpr.html
That's what I used in the past. If you have some idea of what password is, like if it's a word and not just random numbers and letters, and how long it is, you can get it done fairly quickly.
It cost $30USD, I'm not sure what the trial limits are.
They also have one for ZIP files, which for me I found worked much faster but it only does ZIPs.
If you got this via torrent, usually there is 2 ways to get the password.
1. If there is a web address in the file name; eg: www.joeblow.com then that is the password.
2. There is either a text that is not encrypted within the RAR file or the text file is just part of the set of files and not within that RAR itself.

What's wrong with the one that Kevin Rose did on Systm?
The server hosting Hak5.org and the Hak5 forums was hacked.

I get it that hacks happen but I think it's a bit ironic that Hak5 got hacked.
I'm also wondering why the password database doesn't encrypt the passwords themselves. This implies that they are in plain text. Wouldn't even a simple hash of some kind be enough?
