  1. It is all relative to the type of internet you have. If you have cable and neighbors are moving in...etc then yeah, you might experience slow down because you all share the allocated bandwidth per section. If you're using DSL and it's getting slower...it could be to line degradation..weather issues even.

It may even be your router, it could be the time of day...your speeds are almost negligibly different anyway.

If you start seeing some major drops or issues, easiest thing to do is to call your ISP.

  2. Firewall- smoothwall

    Voip- asterisk

    Honeypot- to catch noobs

Old skool game server- for games with low spec server requirements

    NAS- more storage is good

Hack lab- Install a copy of linux or 2003 or something and run some services and test exploits

    Sell it

    Donate it

Mod it- even tho it may be old, plan and execute a complete case mod, lights paint u name it!

I like these ideas. I personally just host a web server off of mine..php mysql stuff.

  3. I think you can add exceptions to drives and paths in AVG or basically any antivirus software. I remember having to do it when I used norton 2003, and then switched over to AVG I did the same thing for my hacktoolz dir.
