One of the great things about smoothwall is that you can run it on a _very_ small hard drive. I had it running on an old 815MB laptop hard drive for a while and have recently moved over to a 1GB compact flash card. I've read accounts of people running it on 256MB (though with almost no logging enabled)
Lots of mods available for it too!

and there are probably more. But that shouldn't stop you if its what you want to do. Chances are these distros will have lots of tools you'll use, and a bunch you won't. Roll your own and put just what you want in it. You'll probably learn a lot in the process.
