  1. Hey wess, darren, allie, whats up? Viper hackling is back! haha. Ive been busy with school and work and life as I know it... How have you guys been? I think I need to catch up on the eps! hahaha

  2. This is a comment to Wess.

Man, how could you go with X-arcade! Believe me, pick up some happs horizontal pushbuttons and competition joysticks and you will feel a world of difference. Super simple to switch, and you can use those pieces in another independent control panel.

If you need more convincing, Retroblast did a review on joysticks - http://www.retroblast.com/hardware.html he's gotta joystick roundup.

You'll also immediately notice how much better happs horizontal pushbuttons feel, because they use real cherry microswitches. They also use longer but lighter springs, so it feels a lot better.

and where the hell was the Ken infinite combo on that old school sheet?

*don't know if you've also seen this, but free plans! http://users.adelphia.net/~seanhat/arcade/...Design_Rev7.PDF Lusid's plans are classic.

btw, I'm the mod on #byoac irc.scifi-fans.net stop by anyone needs info on this kinda stuff.

    Musashi_Sensei,

Thanks for the links, those look great. While I totally understand your feelings about X-Arcade (i know, i know) we wen't with them due to cost. The budget for the project was less than $100, actually considerably less than that (hence the whole broke IPTV'ers thing). X-Arcade's 2 button/2 joystick bundle for $30 is a steal compared to the Happ controls we looked at. At first I wanted the Happs but after looking at costs it wasn't feasible. I would recommend that if your going to do this with a bigger budget, by all means get the better switches and that's why we mentioned Happs and the iPac.

After ordering the x-arcade bundle I was expecting a box of cheap plastic. Well, the plastic isn't as cheap as I expected and I've got to say for the price they do the trick nicely. I don't really notice when playing, however we did not grow up with arcades in our area so some of the nostalga is lost there.

Again, thanks for the links, thats some good stuff, and as long as we're bringing up IRC there is an open invitation to #hak5 on irc.techphile.ca.

I'll bring this up with Wess when he gets home. Thanks for the feedback,

    --Darren

I loved it. My dad and I are going to build one in due time actually. I might wait for ep 5 however, so I can mimic your hardware setup. I am also curious about the emulator you are using. Something to think about though, if someone wants to attempt it (if even possible), An OS that is made for personal arcade cabinets (simular to mythTV for A PVR.).

    Ideas? :)

  3. Awesome show once again. I love all of it. But where was allie? I dont think I remember her! lol. :)

Wess, awesoem job on the arcade segment. That is some information a lot of people oculd really use! I know I will build one soon. I also liked the SSL attack with harrison and darren that was awesome! Keep all the great work up!
