remember this is not the actual usb drive. but it is identical to this.. except that it is in a foldernamed boothelix on the root of the usb.. Could it be that casper has to be in the root archive

What is the structure of the ISO itself? It might be searching for essential files/folders on the root drive and not in /boothelix like your setup
All the squashfs files, kernel, and initrd are in \boothelix\casper everything else is intact like on the iso(although i extracted it)
This is what the original iso looks like
And inside casper; like i said

Has anyone gotten helix3 to boot for them.
Mine hangs after;
"Loading essential drivers... ok"
"Mounting /scripts/init-premount...ok"
"Mounting root file system.."
The splash bar stops loading, and it goes no further.
This is my menu.lst entrie for it
title Helix 3 root (hd0,0) kernel /boothelix/vmlinuz boot=boothelix/casper rw splash initrd /boothelix/initrd.gz
Any help is appreciated,
Will post when i get it working.

I tend to carry about a WD 320gb and 500gb My Passport with me in tool bag. I also tend to carry around about 10 different usb keys for various things. But as of today, I bought a 32gb usb at Frys for $60. I'm hoping to be able to eliminate the need for a majority of the smaller keys with this 32gb. I happen to have an 8gb that has an image put on to it that magically appeared from the "demon" that has TONS of tools that we listed here and many more. I'm in the process of taking what was shown in today's episode and what is on this image to be able to do a massive key with most of the general repair, recover, restore tools along with BT3 (persistent), BT4 (persistent), Mint7 (persistent and install), WinXP installer, Win7 32bit & 64bit installers, Server 2003 and 2008 installers.
Just to give you guys an idea how this one was setup, here is the menu.lst from the image...

What Bootloader are you using? Im guessing grub2 cause your booting iso's?

looking foreward to hal0s guide-- does your backtrack boot with persistent changes? some reason mine always boots like a live cd.. (bt4-prefinal)

ya it has some testing tools that could be detected as malware but its a good forensics boot disk
