I found another site with some information on it and they had taken it apart and had pictures , but all the boards were covered with something so you could not see any markings on the chips (done by the manufacturer i think)
As far as i can see the CD-ROM just has the drivers and application on it to make the modem work.
I used the huawei update which over wrote the o2 drivers/apps on the CD-ROM and it still worked as a modem so dont think there is any problem removing it.

Got a 02 usb mobile broadband dongle.
It has a small data partition that is seen as cd partition and i'm trying to remove it.

If you don't need a cad server rack but more like the ones visio did you could try http://live.gnome.org/Dia. Haven't used it myself but heard its not bad.
