  1. Open source music would be cool. If you post the completed track, along with each of the recorded tracks, to be remixed by anyone.

that's the idea mate i need to look more in to what licences are already out there for this kind of thing. the idea is still building not had much time to work on it yet.

I have a domain name and hosting sorted just looking to get the site up and some forums on the go and develop it a little more before i go much further.

As it will be community driven being its an open source project.

As sparda has pointed out there is somthing like this called creative commons licence which i am looking at as I type.

I just feel the way a few companys have cornerd digital multitrack recording every one thinks these are the only options and as i have found its not. The programs avalible for Linux are great i have been testing them out on some sessions I have done on pro tools. The Plugins and effects area great Jack is amazing you can do things with it you couldnt dream of with other software. anyway i must shoot of to work

thanks for the suport folks :)

  2. Is this one of thoughs new "Open source corporation" things, or just a spin on the creative commons licence?

I dont know how its going to play out yet tbh haddnt hear of the creative commons licence. If things go well the first time arround then we'll take it from there.

theres anumber of other ideas i got floating about for it. if i get a website made up pritty soon then everything will be available on there.

  3. The O.S.M project is an idea i have came up with to promote the open source community and help out 3 up and coming bands here in glasgow.

What is going to happen is a 6 week project each band has 2 weeks of recording mixing and mastering. And by the end will have a 3 song demo.

There will also be a free concert at the end of the project where the demo CD's will be available, will also be available from the web site for a small free.

I am looking for some help to create the web site my ability's with creating web sites aint all that great. All other input and help welcome

any further information will be available from the channel #osm on irc.hak5.org .

  4. yo guys still watching tbh but sound issue, what mics you guys using? The sound is very resionant or boxie if you will. have you made any sound treatment to the set?

An option to look in to a better boom mic.

unless its just codecs but sounds to me like a lack of sound treatment/micing.

thats echo of the phone is called feedback :)

    anyway great episode so far

P.s sweet set ot tannoy 600's in the back during that speakinspell hack

what does andrew do looks to be more of a producer?

  5. sony vagas for the win its only expensive if you dont know the er.. right shops to buy it from.

as far as 64 bit support no as far as i know is 32 bit code realy doesnt mater there will be no performance increase.

give up with this 64 bit crazyness untill evryone take it up, drivers are limited for hardware. its till not worth it yet. Now dual core or quad core now were talking :P

  6. plan is to upgrade to dual core next summer :P

i need to be able to game AND render/encode at the same time!

Unfortunately only darren & wess can come play on it

yes encoding/rendering of any kind will use all your avalible resources so i sugest you build a 2nd computer for the encoding or gaming.

  7. personaly all my music runs out my main pc to my mixing console then out to my super-audio hifi setup/studio monitors.

all you need is a standard sound card most folk want notic the difrance untill

A: all your music is riped at high sample rates and is not compressed to formats like mpeg layer 3.

B: you have a high quility hifi, a AC97 sound card will do most peoples needs in this situation

So what you have would be vnc on the tablet in to the main streaming pc.

The other PC stream out to your hifi amp, most have an aux input with RCA's.

    Jobs a good'un

  8. Ok not really done much of said coding, but looking at python im told it pritty easy to learn.

This is just for "fun" any sugestions would be welcomed. going to be doing it under linux so whats going to be the best resources for me to get started.

    cheers :)

  9. remove chairs and other sitting instruments from the area unless you want a bunch of guests drinking booze sitting on their asses. get people standing, moving, and talking.

keep em out of the kitchen if you can. we do this at hak5 parties so that you have 2 choices. your either hanging out on set, or hanging out on the dance floor (or your out back smoking but we dont partake in those activities)

ah no party is always in the kitchen tbh :D
